• For the central apneas cardiac oscillations in the thorax channel may lead to faulty obstruc-tive scoring. For obstructive apnea, as shown in this example, there is no clear eff ort activity for thorax and abdomen channel visible. In contrast the IC-EMG indicates a clear eff ort obst-ruction.
• With a specialized algorithm ECG artefacts are removed and the IC-Eff ort curve is generated.• The calculated IC-Eff ort signal enables a clear distinction between central and obstructive
apnea. The oscillations of the IC-Eff ort signal diff er signifi cantly for both cases.
