Medical Cyclotron Magnet installation for 55 T magnet of Medical Cyclotron Design, fabrication and site installation of magnet installation jig i.e. the support structure required for the shifting of 55 Tonnes magnet cart for medical cyclotron project (MCP), a box of size 3 m x 3 m x 2.415 m, from the adjacent service road to the vault through the blower building at MCP, Chak Garia, is completed. The skewed path, close tolerance between crate and vault opening or pillars, the unevenness of the blower building floor elevation considering supports from the pile caps of the building columns are duly considered in the design. The magnet is transferred over the eight skid rollers on the parallel track guide channel up to the vault. The 1.5 m deep x 0.25 m wide x 16 m long box shaped built up steel structure [see Fig.1] made of mild steel of around 16 Tonnnes is fabricated, installed at site at the blower building in MCP, Chak Garia, and dummy load tested for compressive and bending load criteria before actual job is taken up. One proto-type built up box of beam of 700 mm long is tested to 35 ton of compressive load. On site assembly of the built-up beam, the beam span of 6 meter is tested with 35 ton load for bending in simply supported beam loading condition. The test loads are applied through a rectangular built up test fixture and hydraulic jack. The jack is of 45 ton capacity mounted with calibrated dial indicator [700 bar pressure ≡ 45 Ton of load] and was utilized during manoeuvring of the 55 tonnes magnet at site too. Each of the section of the built up beam was tested with 22 tonnes compressive load. The support structure over the trenches of the vault is also erected after compressive load test [see Fig.2] at 18 tonnes through jack system inside test fixture. The system has been successfully used for shifting of the 55 Ton magnet crate.
