On Monday May 7, the Shakespeare Theatre Company celebrated the 10th anniversary of Will on the Hill. With a stand-out cast and a record number of sponsors, 2012 marked the most successful year in the event’s history—welcoming distinguished Members of Congress, national media personalities, corporate VIPs and senior Hill staff to Sidney Harman Hall and raising more than $400,000 for the Theatre’s education and community engagement programs. Following the pre-performance reception with the Who’s Who of Washington, the evening’s guests took their seats, greeted by a surprise recording by NPR’s Robert Siegel kicking off the festivities. The Will on the Hill performance was preceded by a scene from Much Ado About Nothing prepared by the Text Alive! class from Dr. Henry Wise Jr. High School (with a design concept set in the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry)— a key demonstration of the programs supported by Will on the Hill’s fundraising efforts. The illustrious cast of Peter Byrne’s original play, Speak the Speech, I Pray You! then took the stage, featuring Emmy Award ® -winning actor Richard Schiff as well as Tony Award ® Nominee and STC favorite Veanne Cox. Fellow cast members included Senator Roger Wicker, ABC News’ Rick Klein, The Weekly Standard’s William Kristol, the Honourable Ian Liddell-Grainger MP and nearly twenty U.S. Representatives including Reps. Gerry Connolly, Donna Edwards, Michael Grimm and Eleanor Holmes Norton. With the illustrious cast “clearly delighted in spoofing the Bard” (The Georgetowner), the audience was in stitches over references to and good-natured jabs at contemporary political issues as the play centered around the theme of working across the aisle, and the power of Shakespeare triumphing in the end! The evening concluded with a buffet dinner attended by Will on the Hill sponsors, cast members and the Honorary Hill Advisory Committee, with extensive press coverage by the CW, The Washington Examiner, Roll Call and Will on the Hill Media Sponsor The Hill. On behalf of the Shakespeare Theatre Company and all those who participate in its programming, we would like to extend our most sincere thanks and appreciation to all who made this year’s Will on the Hill benefit possible. Your commitment is vital to the success of the Theatre’s efforts to bring arts education programs to many high school and middle school classrooms throughout the D.C. metro area each year. Thank you for your dedication to the Shakespeare Theatre Company! The Shakespeare Theatre Company gratefully acknowledges the generous support of the following companies and friends who helped make Will on the Hill possible:

On Monday May 7, the Shakespeare Theatre Company celebrated the
10th anniversary of Will on the Hill. With a stand-out cast and a record
number of sponsors, 2012 marked the most successful year in the event’s
history—welcoming distinguished Members of Congress, national media
personalities, corporate VIPs and senior Hill staff to Sidney Harman Hall and
raising more than $400,000 for the Theatre’s education and community
engagement programs.
Following the pre-performance reception with the Who’s Who of
Washington, the evening’s guests took their seats, greeted by a surprise
recording by NPR’s Robert Siegel kicking off the festivities. The Will on the
Hill performance was preceded by a scene from Much Ado About Nothing
prepared by the Text Alive! class from Dr. Henry Wise Jr. High School (with
a design concept set in the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry) —
a key demonstration of the programs supported by Will on the Hill’s
fundraising efforts.
The illustrious cast of Peter Byrne’s original play, Speak the Speech, I Pray
You! then took the stage, featuring Emmy Award®-winning actor Richard
Schiff as well as Tony Award® Nominee and STC favorite Veanne Cox.
Fellow cast members included Senator Roger Wicker, ABC News’ Rick Klein,
The Weekly Standard’s William Kristol, the Honourable Ian Liddell-Grainger
MP and nearly twenty U.S. Representatives including Reps. Gerry Connolly,
Donna Edwards, Michael Grimm and Eleanor Holmes Norton. With the
illustrious cast “clearly delighted in spoofing the Bard” (The Georgetowner),
the audience was in stitches over references to and good-natured jabs at
contemporary political issues as the play centered around the theme of
working across the aisle, and the power of Shakespeare triumphing in
the end!
The evening concluded with a buffet dinner attended by Will on the Hill
sponsors, cast members and the Honorary Hill Advisory Committee, with
extensive press coverage by the CW, The Washington Examiner, Roll Call
and Will on the Hill Media Sponsor The Hill.
On behalf of the Shakespeare Theatre Company and all those who
participate in its programming, we would like to extend our most sincere
thanks and appreciation to all who made this year’s Will on the Hill benefit
possible. Your commitment is vital to the success of the Theatre’s efforts
to bring arts education programs to many high school and middle school
classrooms throughout the D.C. metro area each year. Thank you for your
dedication to the Shakespeare Theatre Company!

YOUR GIFT SUPPORTS STC’S ARTS EDUCATION PROGRAMS
We seek to empower learners to think critically, question freely, share openly and engage in an ongoing exploration of Shakespeare.
The central mission of the Shakespeare Theatre Company Education Department is to deepen understanding of, appreciation for and connection to classic theatre in diverse learners of all ages through accessible programs that celebrate multiple perspectives. We seek to fulfill this mission through strengthening our collaborations with schools locally and nationally, engaging in scholarly dialogue with community and audience members, and increasing our use of technology.
