Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have

learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

Page 2: Media evaluation question 7

Skills I used in my preliminary task

In my preliminary task I zoomed in and out (as seen above) to give the film a quirky effect

Skills I used in my preliminary task

We used a panorama shot to show off our skills and knowledge of different types of shots, and to

set the scene of our film.

Skills I used in my preliminary task

We played around with different shots we could use that would be effective. As seen above we used a low angle shot to create mystery and

suspension.

Page 5: Media evaluation question 7

What went wrong and what went well

What went wrong: we ended up filming ‘shot reverse shot’ wrong, and had to re film a better

example later.

What went wrong and what went well

What went well: we had good continuity in our preliminary task. We made sure everything fitted together

perfectly which made out film more realistic.

What we did differently from your preliminary task

We added sound effects over our mute to create a more realistic effect. For example, when the children come out of school we

added sound of children talking and laughing

We added effects to our shots to create a more sinister atmosphere. For example, when the school girls leave school we

added a darker effect as seen below

We found our own font online instead of the usual fonts we found on imovie. This made our thriller a

lot more scary

We used snakes in our video to make it unique. In our shot of the title ‘Reprisal’ we

used a snake to go over the picture. This was a really unique and effective way to

make our film scarier.

What have you learned?

Our preliminary task and main film were completely different. Although our preliminary film had some good shots and continuity, it lacked in originality and

wasn’t very professional. We didn’t add sound or shot effects nor did we spend time finding different fonts and ways of doing things. When creating our main film

Reprisal, I learnt that to make a film successful you need to look at the small things that need doing. For example, when we first started making it we weren’t to use a

sound effect of a door slamming, or the children coming out of school as it seemed pointless. However, after trying it out it actually made a huge difference. I also learned

that experimenting with different shots we were able to bring them all together to create an effective piece of work.
