Q3. What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

What is a media institution?

A media institution is a company that produce a variety of media products/text such as films, newspapers, magazines, radio programs, leaflets, websites etc. Each of these media text are designed to ensure that they appeal to the target audience. A media institution can either be independent or a well distributed company that opens to wide audience on a global scale, whilst an independent company has a more focused and smaller audience.

Media Institutions for music magazines

Media institutions such as IPC Media, now changed to TimeInc.Uk was founded in 1958, it is a digital publisher based in Britain, they sell newspapers and magazines such as NME, Look, TV times. Bauer is Europe’s largest privately owned publishing group, that offer 300 businesses in 15 countries, they offer magazines such as Kerrang, Q Closer and Heat, they also offer online businesses.

Publishing my magazine

My magazine features famous rap artists of the 21st century, the magazine includes interviews, events, reviews and latest news regarding each of the artist featured artists, though only interviews regarding the new rap artist shown on the front cover will have an interview due to how my magazine will be unable to afford to have an interview with famous artists such as Eminem and 50 cent as it would mean budgeting for travel expenses, and the artists will need to be keen for an interview

The magazine is being published to ensure that the fans of each of the famous artists are updated on the latest news, but also the main focus of the magazine being published is to promote the new artist “Mc Subeef”, so that more people will learn about him as he becomes more famous.

Who would distribute my magazine?

A media institution such as Hip Hop Weekly are likely to distribute my magazine, since like my magazine brand, their company also revolves mainly on the hip hop music genre. It is quite a popular institute that publish every two weeks to millions of young people, being so popular and having a wide audience, it would help promote my new artist as well as my magazine brand.
