C-Rap Magazine

Benjamin Britcliffe

In what ways does your media product use develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

The genre of my magazine is rap parodies.

Rap parodies is a type of genre that is two genres together , Rap Parodies is the use of rap where the rapper remixes other songs in a funny style.

It was vital to use typical elements so the genre would get across to the reader as easy as possible.

I however had to get across what parody rap is and use more text on all the pages, so the reader knows what the magazine is about.

My Audience feedback said that there was too much writing on the pages.

I had to write more on the pages so the reader would have all the information to be able to understand the music genre i had chosen.

I used basic stereotypes of rappers in my pictures to create the rapping genre and how we group them.

Aggressive Look

Bright Coloured Clothes.

How does your media product represent particular social groups ?

I have represented on the last page and on this page the stereotype of Rappers in the way they dress in a particular style always wearing head gear and plenty of bright colours or jewelry. On this page I have showed the different types of music relating to these particular stereotype pictures, for example, House, Street and Soul music.

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product?

The media institution who publish Vibe (www.vibe.com) magazine will distribute my magazine within their music section.

They are both an advertising agency and distributers of a range of magazines highlighting what music is popular and current trends. News about music people and stars, videos, photos and blogs.

The do portray the Rapping industry more than the classical pop and rock music and have a lot of rappers represented in their other magazines.

My magazine is different as there has not been a parody magazine made yet as it is a new based music genre as it was made by itunes who created a unique parody chart on itunes.

Who would be the audience for your media product ? My audience for my magazine would be 16 to 25 year olds British and Americans as most rappers are black Americans and black British people.

Also it would have the main readers to be male teenagers who are fans of rappers.

This is a good audience to target as the rapping community is a close group of audience.

Rap is also in the public eye a lot and rapping music is published almost everyday, with the added use of it being parody rap it also gains two target audiences instead of one target audience.

My target audience would be mainly fans of rap.

How did you attract/address your audience ? My title is C-RAP it has the word Rap in the title along with my sub-title "the only parody rap magazine in the world" the genre of my magazine is easily recognised because of the sub-heading My Key Image: On the front cover i have used the main stereotype of that rappers wear hats and hoodies and is a male this can help people recognise that my genre is rap. The Double page spread: By having an informal interview with the main male rapper the use of slang creates the rapping stereotype.

Also by using the images and colour of writing makes the article more appealing to the reader also with the use of black and white images makes the writing more standing out.

My Audience feedback said that i got the information across but there was a lot of writing, I however needed to use a lot of writing to get the genre across.

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product ?

I have used many resources and technology to help my research and to record my work.

I used Google to research the genre and also the cost for the distributers and publisher.

I also researched the amount of profit the company receives from the genre i am doing about. I also learnt how to use photoshop and how to use indesign.

I learnt about how lighting can affect pictures and improve them.

However my audience feedback said that the pictures were good but I pointed out that if the images were not edited the images would not have been good.

Looking back at your preliminary taskWhat do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product ?

I learnt how to create a main page spread and also how to use indesign.

In the preliminary task I did not know how to use any of the software however during the tasks I learnt how to use the software to create the music magazine.

Also I learnt when designing my music magazine how to use specific techniques for example the layout others used to make their music magazines more interesting.

Also the use of a font that isn't basic to the genre to get across to the reader.

Finally the use of language that other rapping music magazine was needed to be used, to create the stereotype of rap and to get across the rap stereotype to the readers easily.

Conclusion :

In conclusion certain parts of the magazine can be changed to improve the overall magazine for example what I would change if I had more time is:

Use less writing and possibly try and get across what rapping parodies are. 9% guessed the genre correctly.

Get what a rapping parody is on the front cover as to find out what a rapping parody is you have to read the main article which may stop certain people from buying the magazine.

I would possibly change the name of the magazine as C-Rap people may take it as my magazine as being against rappers when really my magazine is all about rappers changing songs.
