In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?Danielle, Jess, Keely and Remi

Film posterWe created a film poster for our film ‘Bring Me To Life’.

We chose to use one main image and place it on to a red bloody background. This made sure the image stood out against the background and became a main focus. Using this bloody background it showed the genre of our film clearly so the audience are automatically aware of this.

Typical conventions we used:o Dark Lightingo Bloodo Red and black colourso Our main character/actor

We also challenged typical conventions as we used an image where she is lying down. The choice of not including eye contact made a more interesting image as it is an unusual choice and would make our poster stand out against posters of the same genre.

These posters inspired our own poster

I liked the idea of the poster for the film ‘Let Me In’ and we used this as a starting point for own poster. One main element was the idea of no eye contact which is

present in each poster and we conformed with in our own.

Film magazineWe also created a front cover for a film magazine of the horror genre. We wanted to use a different image compared to our poster but include the same character/actor this made both relate but will also create interest as you can see the different themes included in the film including the more horror or more paranormal side.

We included headlines which will be of interest to the target audience which will be horror movie fans b referencing back to already existing films including ‘Annabelle’.The use of including our film title in big writing which is also the text on the poster then draws the audience to look at this so they are aware of the name of the film.

Typical conventions we used:0 The bruises and shadows on her face show to the audience that this is a horror

magazine and looks as if she is almost a paranormal presence or ghost due to the blue hues.

0 Dark colours including black, grey and red.0 Dark lighting creating shadows and adds a more eerie feel to the overall magazine.0 Blood (magazine name and strip at bottom).0 Eye contact

Inspirational magazine

covers from the horror

genre. These horror film magazine covers are good inspiration for our own magazine cover because I like the use of eye contact within each one which is something we felt key especially as we didn’t include it our film poster.

Film trailerOur film trailer conformed to typical conventions of the horror trailer genre: Blood Screams Girl is the victim which conforms to Laura Mulvey’s male gaze The man is a stronger presence in the film which goes along with Tim Berger’s theories Hegemony Flickering lights Dark lighting (diegetic and non diegetic e.g phone call and heartbeat) Ominous sound Omniscient point of view for the audience Fast paced editing and blink eye effects

It challenges typical conventions through: At first our trailer conforms to Laura Mulveys male gaze making the women a more sexulised

charcater and it is shown from the man in the trailers point of view and we do use P.O.V shots when he is following her. This makes her weaker than the man giving him the power

This then chnages as it is revealed that she has made the man up as a figure of her mental illness, this then gives her the power back as she can then control him and can erase him from her mind meaning that he holds the power.

The woman is also the main character which isn’t a typical convention as Tim Berger says ‘the man acts and the woman appears’ which is the opposite for our own film trailer.

These films each inspired

our horror trailer.
