its Member States was on display in its myriad hues
at the 20th European Union Film Festival (EUFF The
festival brings to India a repertoire of 21 latest and
award winning European films from as many
countries. Organized by the Delegation of the
European Union and embassies of Member States,
the festival was held in Kolkata in partnership with
Cine Central, Calcutta from 2nd June to 9th June
2015.
The European Union Film Festival 2015 was
inaugurated by Shri Biman Banerjee, Hon’ble
Speaker, West Bengal Legislative Assembly, in the
presence of Smt. Jayashree Mohta, Honorary Consul,
Consulate of Belgium, Kolkata and Hon’ble Justice
Shri Shyamal Kumar Sen, President, Cine Central,
Calcutta wit hthe screening of the Belgium film
‘Go,Eddy!’ at Nandan – I (West Bengal Film Centre).
Speaking about the partnership between Cine Central, Calcutta and the European Union on the
Film Festival, Cine Central’s President, Hon’ble Justice Shri Shyamal Kumar Sen said, “I am
happy this year European Union Film Festival has stepped into its 20th Year and Cine Central,
Calcutta is a co-organizer to celebrate this great occasion at a time when Cine Central,
Calcutta celebrates its Golden Jubilee. European Union has been devoted to the cause of
promoting a peaceful, united and prosperous global fraternity.
I am happy that the Union believes cinema is also one of the most potent forms of
communication to accomplish their objective. We are confident this year also cine lovers in
Kolkata will enjoy 21 Award-Winning Latest European Films of different genres. Once again I
wish this great festival a grand success. Let us all get united with peace and fraternity.”
Celebrating 20 years of bringing European cinema to India, the festival had movies from varied
genres including comedy, drama, romance and action - many charming and sometimes
unsettling stories.

An European Union film festival got underway in Kolkata from
Tuesday offering a bouquet of 21 award winning films for the cine
lovers of the city.
The Delegation of the European Union and embassies of Member
States in association with Cine Central are organizing the EU Film
Festival from June 2 to 9.
The eight-day long festival brings together the award winning European movies from countries
like Belgium, France, Greece, Denmark, Bulgaria to name a few. Each movie delves into
different genres like comedy, drama and romance.
The festival was inaugurated by Biman Banerjee, Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, who
said, “Cinema is not only meant for pleasure, it is meant for cultural exchange between two
nations. Also I believe no other medium reflects the reality as beautifully as cinema does”.
Also present at the event were Jayashree Mohta, Honorary Consul, Consulate of Belgium,
Kolkata and Justice Shyamal Kumar Sen, President, Cine Central, Kolkata.
Talking about the film festival Justice Shyamal Kumar Sen said, “We believe in peace,
friendship and cordial relationship, the film festival will help in that direction. The festival is
conducted every year in the City of Joy to strengthen ties with the member states of the EU.
The first movie that was screened on Tuesday was Go Eddy! (Allez, Eddy!) from Belgium. It
tells the story of 11-year-old Freddy who dreams of winning a race to meet his favourite
cyclist.
This year the film festival started from Chennai in March and has been successfully conducted
in Delhi, Chandigarh, Mumbai and Ahmedabad.
