International Women's Day here.
―The aim of this Solidarity Scarf is to become a
visible public symbol of self-esteem, sisterhood, and

―The Solidarity Scarf is launched to mark the celebration of International Women‘s Day and
show love, respect and appreciation towards women and their achievements in economic,

conference.
According to Global Chairperson, ASSOCHAM Ladies League (ALL), Harbeen Arora, all 33
chapters of ALL globally will promote this public symbol of Solidarity Scarf so that a billion
women‘s voices can be amplified and heard across borders.
―We are happy to support this initiative with Ritu Beri and ASSOCHAM Ladies League as
this is needed for restoring rightful place of women in society,‖ said General Manager of JW
Marriott New Delhi, Balan Paravantavida, in support of the initiative.
Meanwhile, HCL Technologies Ltd has organised a self-defence workshop to girls and
women. It is also going to announce shortly a skill training programme in the community as a
part of the International Women‘s month initiative.
―Seeing women safety as the need of the hour, HCL took an active decision in sponsoring
self-defense workshop for their security staff, housekeeping staff and women guards, to
train them to fight back and protect themselves when faced with dangerous situations. This
programme has helped them become aware of some of the most common threats,‖ a HCL
release said.
Moreover, various health camps and awareness trainings were given to the women in the
slums across India.
Meanwhile, President Pranab Mukherjee in his message on the occasion of International
Women‘s Day, thanked women for their invaluable contribution in the making of our great
nation.
―Women in India have attained greatness through the ages – in political, academic and
spiritual spheres. They enjoyed freedom and equal participation in public life in ancient
India,‖ he said.
Referring to ancient scriptures where women were revered, he quoted Swami Vivekananda.
―All nations have attained greatness by paying proper respect to women. That country and that
nation which does not respect women has never become great‖.
The principle of gender equality is also enshrined in the Indian Constitution, he said. Not only
does the Constitution grant equality to women, but also empowers the State to adopt measures
of positive discrimination in favour of women.
The President went on to say that empowerment of women must be regarded not only as an
effort towards gender equality but also a critical step for stimulating their full participation in
nation building.
―We as a society must work towards changing negative perceptions about women. Women
should be provided a safe, secure and congenial environment in which their talents can flower
and they can contribute their full share in the building of our nation,‖ he said.
―On this International Women‘s Day, let us resolve to redouble our efforts for the protection
and welfare of women. May the celebrations inculcate in every member of our society the
highest respect for women,‖ he concluded. (KNN/ES)
