ME 191/291: Engineering Drawing & Computer Graphics
After taking this course the student will be able to:

ME 192/292: Workshop practice
After taking this course the student will be able to:
1 Have a working knowledge of various types of bench works using suitable tools and
techniques for fitting operations.
2 Understand different types of welding operations and their different aspects & controls
including the use of AC Transformer and its power control technique.
3 Understand the basic principles of Tin-smithy operation and its use.
4 Specify and practice various machining operations using different machine tools through
hands on training.
5 Gain insight into the techniques of different product operations in manufacturing.
ME 391: Machine drawing I
After taking this course the student will be able to:
1 Draw and identify welding symbols, represent and identify welded joints on drawings by
means of these symbols.
2 Draw and identify schematic product symbols for standard components in electrical and
electronic systems, draw and identify symbols for pipe joints and fittings and prepare piping
layouts.
3 Construct isometric views of simple machine parts from orthographic projections and vice
versa.
4 Draw and understand different sectional views - full, half, broken, revolved, removed and
auxiliary sections of machine parts and understand sectioning conventions.
5 Identify different forms of screw threads, draw nut-bolts and riveted joints.
6 Draw and understand symbols of limits, tolerances & fits and represent them on drawing.
7 Draw and understand assembly and part drawings of a mechanical assembly, such as screw
jack, pipe vice etc.
ME 392: Workshop Practice-II
After taking the course the student will able to
1. Manufacture a component by various machining operations by engine lathe, Drilling
machine, Shaping machine
2. Join two metals sheets using resistance spot welding, Manual metal Arc welding
3. Make a pattern using different wood working operations
4. Make green sand mould with gating system
5. Practice different operations of forging like upsetting and drawing down.
ME 393: Applied Mechanics Lab
After taking the course the student will able to
1. Understand and determination of spring stiffness under tension and compressive loads
2. Understand and determination of Strain gauge based deflection measurement of a cantilever
beam
3. Understand and determination of Tension Test and Compression Test of ductile and brittle
materials: stress-strain diagram, yield strength, ultimate strength, modulus of elasticity,
percentage elongation and percentage reduction in areas, observation of fractured surfaces
4. Understand and determination torsional rigidity by Torsion Test
5. Understand and determination of Hardness of a given specimen by Brinel/ Vickers and
Rockwell hardness tests, Shore hardness test
6. Understand and determination of coefficient of friction using different surface contact.
ME 491: Fluid Mechanics & Hydraulics Lab
After taking this course the students will be able to:
1. Use different flow & velocity measuring instruments like venturimeter, orificemeter, pitot
tube etc.
2. Use the Bernoulli’s equation to solve problems in fluid mechanics.
3. Use the concept of metacenter and metacentric height in the field of design of vessels, ships
etc.
4. Understand the type of flow of a flowing fluid and also measure the losses during flow
through the pipes.
5. Understand the constructional features, operating principle, design criteria for selection of
different hydraulic machines such as turbines, pumps etc.
ME 492: Manufacturing Technology Lab
After taking this course the student will be able to
1. Find Grain Fineness Number of sand
2. Prepare moulding sand by proper mixing of silica sand with its various ingredients and also to
prepare compacted standard samples from this green sand for checking important physical
properties of foundry sand
3. Determine Permeability Number, Hardness, moisture content of moulding sand
4. Cast a component as per given drawing by using a green sand mould prepared accordingly
using a given pattern made according to the size of the component
5. Manufacture a octagonal chisel as per given drawing by using different forging operations
ME 493: Material Testing Lab
After taking this course the student will be able to:
1. Understand and determination of Impact strength of a given specimen by different impact
tests procedure, viz., Charpy and Izod tests;
2. Understand and determination of drawability of the given sheet metals through cupping
test
3. Understand the process of performing Fatigue test of a typical sample and obtain
load-life plot.
4. Understand the process of sample preparation and etching of ferrous and non-ferrous
metals and alloys for metallographic observation
5. Observe and understand, the changes in hardness and microstructure on heat
treatment of carbon steels under different rates of cooling including quenching, by
performing hardness test and metallographic studies;
