I am the Director for the Mechanical Contractors Association of Western Pennsylvania that represents 47 large plumbing contractors (see attached list) in Western Pennsylvania. All our members feel that It Is critical that the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania approves a State Licensing Program for our plumbers. Also, I am a member of the Allegheny County Plumbing Advisory Board that works on specifications and Inspections for the City of Pittsburgh proper and Allegheny County. We have very strict plumbing procedures that must be adhered to in Allegheny County where plumbing projects are done. As In many parts of the State of Pennsylvania, the City of Pittsburgh and Allegheny County has antiquated water supply structures. It is essential that plumbers who work on these systems are licensed for the safety of your constituents statewide. Other issues such as backflow prevention, storm and sewer piping and vent piping are Important to the many hospitals, businesses and residential dwellings to have licensed plumbers knowing how these water systems work.
