* Coming into 2019, Fine’s adjusted completion percentage ranked second nationally (and first among returners) in 2018 according to PFF (79.7%), which factors drops, throwaways, etc. into the percentage. Additionally, Fine ranked sixth nationally (fourth among returners) in PFF’s quarterback rating metric (100.26) in 2018.
* Fine became the fifth player in C-USA history to be named Offensive Player of the Year in back-to-back seasons (2017 and 2018). He’s also the first Mean Green player to accomplish the feat. North Texas players won in back-to-back years in 2003 and 2004 (Patrick Cobbs and Jamario Thomas) in the Sun Belt.
* Fine was also voted the preseason Offensive Player of the Year and to the conference’s preseason All-Conference team ahead of the 2019 season by the league’s 14 head coaches.
* Fine is the only North Texas quarterback in program history to throw for 4,000 yards or more and 30 touchdowns or more when he did so in 2017. * Last season, Fine became the first in program history to throw for 400-plus yards in back-to-back games. Fine’s 418-yard performance vs. Incarnate Word on 9/8 was the 10th best in program history. Fine’s 444-yard performance in the Week 1 win over SMU on 9/1 was the most since Giovanni Vizza threw for 478 against Navy in 2007. Fine is one of eight players in Mean Green history to have thrown for 400 yards or more in a game.

* Fine has thrown for 400 or more yards three times in his career, the most in program history. He owns three of the 10 best passing performances in North Texas history.
* Fine was voted a member of the team’s leadership council for 2019 and is an offensive captain.
Uncle RicoSenior wide receiver Rico Bussey, Jr. (Lawton, Oklahoma) is a serious weapon for the high-flying Mean Green offense and was named preseason first team all-conference ahead of the 2019 season. He’s also a member of the Biletnikoff Award watch list.
* Bussey was shut out in last week’s loss at SMU. It marked his first game without a catch since 9/24/16 at Rice during his true freshman year. It’s only the third time in his 33 career appearances that he was catch-less.
* Bussey came out of the gates very strong during last week’s win over Abilene Christian - posting four catches for a career-high 156 yards and a touchdown, earning the highest grade for a Mean Green player according to Pro Football Focus, earning an 88.8, the top grade in the country for a wide receiver in Week 1. That earned him a spot on the Eckrich National Team of the Week.
* Bussey leads the nation in yards per reception at 39.0 per grab, though that ranking should be taken with a grain of salt due to his low total of catches (four).
* Bussey has nine career games with over 100 yards receiving after Week 1’s 156-yard output, and had six in 12 games in 2018. His nine 100-yard games over his career are tied for fourth most in program history with Ron Shanklin (1967-69). Bussey’s next game over the century mark will tie Casey Fitzgerald (2005-08) for third.
* In 12 games in 2018, Bussey had a team-high 68 catches for 1,017 yards and 12 touchdowns, 44.4% of quarterback Mason Fine’s touchdowns in 2018.
* Bussey finished eighth in the country in touchdown catches in 2018 (which was

* Darden was the team’s third-leading receiver in 2018 with 48 catches for 575 yards and four touchdowns.

* Darden also features as a punt returner, who has one career punt return for a touchdown.
#TheStandardSenior wide receiver Michael Lawrence (Sweetwater, Texas) caught five passes for 44 yards and a touchdown last week at SMU.

* Lawrence led the team in 2017 with 62 catches for 819 yards and also added four touchdowns.
Redshirt senior tight end Kelvin Smith (Spring, Texas) has been called the team’s most versatile player by head coach Seth Littrell, and seeing how many areas he factors in offensively and on special teams, it’s easy to see why. In addition to his receiving ability, his impact as a blocker in both the run and pass game is usually overlooked. Smith also contributes on multiple special teams units.
* Smith made his 2019 debut during last week’s loss at SMU and he caught a pair of passes for 13 yards.
* Smith finished 2018 with 29 grabs for 269 yards and a touchdown in 2019.

* Torrey earned second team All-Conference USA honors at running back and honorable mention status as a kick returner in his first season in Denton in 2018.

Siggers Bursts Onto the SceneRedshirt sophomore running back Tre Siggers (Duncanville, Texas) made his debut at the position last week at SMU following a switch from safety after the 2018 season.
* Siggers carried 18 times for 164 yards (9.1 yards per carry) and a touchdown, all of which led the Mean Green on 9/7, displaying an aggressive and physical running style that was evident during fall camp. He had runs of 45, 44 and 17 in Dallas that were some of the very few bright spots in the loss to a rival.
* Siggers became the first Mean Green player to rush for 100 yards since DeAndre Torrey (Gautier, Mississippi) did so at UT San Antonio on 11/24/18 when he had 155.
* Siggers was a two-way standout at Duncanville HS, playing at both running back and safety. He originally came in as a running back, but was shifted to safety ahead of the 2018 season before being switched back ahead of 2019.
* Siggers was originally a three-star prospect and was ranked as the 18th-best athlete prospect in the state of Texas (91st nationally) by Scout. He ran for 634 yards with nine touchdowns on 85 carries and caught 76 passes for 772 yards and three more touchdowns as a senior in 2016.

* Sophomore Ethan Mooney (Fort Worth) has had a perfect start to his 2019 season, connecting on all five field goal attempts and has made all nine of his PATs.

* Mooney appeared in 12 games last year as the kickoff specialist - averaging 57.9 yards per kickoff on 79 attempts with 32 touchbacks.
RB DepthRunning back is arguably the deepest position on the roster for the 2019 Mean Green. Following the additions of redshirt sophomore Tre Siggers (Duncanville, Texas), who was converted from safety, true freshman Oscar Adaway III (North Little Rock, Arkansas) and fellow freshman KJ Williams (Granbury, Texas), the Mean Green have a very deep room.
* Siggers had 18 carries for 164 yards and a touchdown in his debut at running back last week at SMU. Siggers broke out in fall camp, and had 634 yards and nine rushing scores to go along with 76 catches for 772 yards and three more touchdowns as a senior at Duncanville HS in 2016.
* Junior DeAndre Torrey (Gautier, Mississippi) has 17 carries for 126 yards (7.4 per carry) through two weeks of 2019. Torrey led the way in 2018 with 977 yards and 15 touchdowns, followed by redshirt senior Loren Easly (Houston), has 16 carries for 92 yards and a touchdown through two weeks in 2019, and amassed 386 yards and four touchdowns in four games in 2018 before suffering a season-ending injury. * Hair-Griffin’s 96-yard kick return for a

He also carried once for a gain of seven yards.
Turn it OverFollowing the fumble forced in the fourth quarter last week at SMU, the Mean Green have forced a turnover in 10 straight games - dating back to 9/29/18 against Louisiana Tech.
* Redshirt senior Taylor Robinson (Fort Worth) forced a fumble late in the fourth quarter last week, and fellow safety Makyle Sanders (Tyler, Texas).
* UNT was plus-four in turnover differential during the 2018 season, a stark contrast from its previous season, when North Texas was minus-11. UNT is even on turnover differential through the first two weeks of 2019.
Halftime Leads (Usually) Equal SuccessAfter Week 1’s win over Abilene Christian, North Texas is 18-3 under head coach Seth Littrell in games where they lead at halftime through his first three-plus seasons. UNT led ACU 38-10 at the half on 8/31.
* The only three losses came after failing to hold on to a 28-10 lead at Old Dominion on 11/10/18, a 21-10 lead at UAB on 10/20/18 and a 14-10 lead at Iowa in 2017.
* Conversely, the Mean Green are 5-15 when trailing at the break. North Texas faced a 28-14 deficit last week at SMU and was unable to dig out of the early hole. The five wins in Littrell’s tenure when trailing at the half came on 11/15/18 against Florida Atlantic (trailed

21-20) on 11/4/17 at Louisiana Tech (trailed 17-10), on 10/14/17 against UT San Antonio (trailed 17-16), on 9/30/17 with a win at Southern Miss (trailed 21-17) and against Rice, in 2016 (trailed 17-14).
* North Texas was tied at 10-10 at the break in the win on 10/6/18 at UTEP. It is the only game where the Mean Green have been tied at halftime during Littrell’s tenure.
Power Five Opponents Since 1999The Mean Green are 4-37 against Power 5 opponents since 1999. The four wins against those four opponents are:
9/15/18 at Arkansas W, 44-179/24/11 vs. Indiana W, 24-219/6/03 vs. Baylor W, 52-149/18/99 at Texas Tech W, 21-14
#LetItFlyNorth Texas may have a new offensive coordinator in Bodie Reeder, but they are still expected to throw the ball a ton. Through the first two weeks of 2019, the Mean Green rank 36th in the country (and second in Conference USA), averaging 284.0 yards per game.
* The Mean Green ranked 12th in FBS and at the top of Conference USA in passing yards per game in 2018 (306.8).
* The Mean Green were third in C-USA in 2018 in passing efficiency at 144.9.
* Senior quarterback Mason Fine (Peggs, Oklahoma) threw for four touchdowns in Week 1 and has five so far this season.
* Fine had 27 touchdown passes in 2018, which ranked 18th nationally. Sack CityNorth Texas registered a pair of sacks in their game at SMU last week to give them a total of four through the first two weeks of 2019.
* Senior defensive end LaDarius Hamilton recorded both, his first two of 2019, last week at SMU.
* The Mean Green finished the 2018 season with 34 sacks on the season, which ranked fourth most by a North Texas team in the program’s history.
Most Sacks in a Single Season (UNT History)1. 2002............................................................452. 1997............................................................39 2013............................................................394. 2018.....................................................34 1996............................................................34
Three Minutes Or LessThe Mean Green had 42 scoring drives in 2018 that took three minutes or less. 34 of those resulted in touchdowns.
* North Texas had two scoring drives under three minutes at SMU last week, both of which resulted in touchdowns.
* The Mean Green now have eight scoring drives in three minutes or less, seven of which have resulted in touchdowns.
It’s a RushWhen the Mean Green rush for 150 yards or more as they did last week at SMU, it typically translates to a victory. However, when North Texas fell at SMU after rushing for 211 yards, the Mean Green’s record fell to 18-3 when rushing for 150 or more yards and it was the first time that they lost when eclipsing the 200-yard plateau and are now 9-1 in such games.
500+The 503 yards of total offense allowed last week in the loss at SMU marked the first time they’ve allowed 500 or more yards of total offense in a game since Florida Atlantic had 633 on 12/2/17 in the Conference USA Championship Game.
Paying the Price for PenaltiesNorth Texas was called for nine penalties for 90 yards last week at SMU and dearly paid the price. Four of those penalties (three on defense) occurred on third downs.
* Discipline is one of the three core values within the Mean Green program, and UNT is sputtering in that area after Week 2’s performance. UNT ranks 75th in the country in fewest penalties (13) and 97th nationally in fewest penalty yardage per game (67.5 yards per game).
* North Texas ranked 12th nationally in fewest penalties (57) and 10th in fewest penalties per game (4.36) in 2018.
Third Down TroublesUNT has struggled out of the gates on third
downs on both sides of the ball. UNT is 10-29 on third downs offensively (34.5% conversion rate) and rank 99th in the country in that category. They have allowed 15-28 conversions on third down defensively (53.6%), which ranks 123rd in the country.
* Conversely in 2018, the Mean Green were very effective defensively on third downs at a 35.0% clip, which ranked 32nd in the nation. Offensively they were marginally better with a 37.3% success rate on third downs.
Nice RecoveryNorth Texas has recovered a fumble in each of the first two games in 2019, and rank 24th in the country in the category.
Perfect in the Red ZoneNorth Texas is a perfect 10-10 in the red zone offensively thus far in 2019 with five touchdowns.
Nothing But TimeNorth Texas ranks 20th nationally through two weeks in time of possession, controlling the ball for an average of 33:38 per game.
Starting FastNorth Texas outscored opponents by a wide 148-46 margin in first quarters of games during the 2018 season.
* The 2018 North Texas team had the largest first-quarter scoring margin advantage since returning to FBS football in 1995. 2018 was only the second time in the last 15 years that the Mean Green outscored their opponents in the first quarter, with the only other team being the 2013 team which held a 79-73 advantage.
* North Texas was outscored 21-0 in the first quarter last week at SMU, and through the first two weeks of the 2019 season have been outscored 21-17 in the first quarter.
* The Mean Green outscored opponents 450-314 in 2018.
* The second quarter is the only quarter so far in 2019 that the Mean Green have outscored opponents (35-17).
* On average, the Mean Green outscored opponents by a margin of 10.4 points per game in 2018, up from a slim margin of 0.5 points per game in 2017.

North Texas was shut out on its first drive (and in the first quarter) last week at SMU.

The total point advantage for North Texas on the opening drives of games in 2018 was 52-20.

* UNT was outscored in the third quarter last week at SMU, 14-6. This came after the Mean Green won the third quarter in the season-opening win over Abilene Christian on 8/31, 10-7. The winner of the third frame is 2-0 thus far in 2019.
Tough SleddingThere are five teams that reached bowl games a year ago on the Mean Green’s 2019 schedule; this week’s opponent California, Houston, Middle Tennessee, Louisiana Tech and UAB, and a sixth, that was bowl eligible in Southern Miss (6-5 in 2018).
O-Line Looking To Take Step ForwardNorth Texas returns three starters along the offensive line in 2019, and five more that saw time in 2018. The group is in year three under offensive line coach Chuck Langston, and they are focused on improving upon the 28 sacks surrendered last season, which was improved by 11 from 2017.
* North Texas has allowed seven sacks through the first two games, five of which came at SMU last week.
Texas-MadeThere are currently 83 players on the North Texas roster who are from the state of Texas. 25 players are not from the Lone Star State, and the next highest representation comes from the north in Oklahoma, with eight.

The University of North Texas named Seth Littrell as its 19th head football coach, University President Neal Smatresk and then-Director of Athletics Rick Villarreal announced on December 5, 2015.
Littrell, now 41, has a 24-18 record in Denton through his first three seasons after guiding North Texas to nine wins for the second straight season. It marked the second set of back-to-back nine win seasons in program history (1977-78). UNT reached its third straight bowl game, as Littrell became the first North Texas head coach to take his team to three
consecutive bowls in his first three seasons. The Mean Green scored 34.6 points per game and lowered their points allowed by 10.8 per game (to 24.2) from 2017. Quarterback Mason Fine continued to shine under Littrell’s leadership, earning Conference USA Offensive Player of the Year honors for the second straight season. Fine threw for 3,793 yards, 27 touchdowns and only five interceptions. Fine will enter 2019 as the nation’s leading returning passer (FBS) and already holds 11 program records heading into his senior season.
2017 marked the Mean Green’s seventh nine-win season in school history. Littrell is also the second coach in program history to lead his team to bowls in back-to-back seasons to start his North Texas tenure (Odus Mitchell in 1946-47). The Mean Green finished 2017 9-5 with an appearance in the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl and set several offensive records along the way. North Texas broke single-season program records for points (497), passing TDs (32), total offense (6,366 yards), total offense per game (454.7), most plays (1,037) and most first downs (340).
The Mean Green showed marked improvement offensively again in Littrell’s second season, improving their points per game average by 10.7 ppg (35.5). Sophomore QB Mason Fine also took a major leap forward in his second season with Littrell, becoming the first Mean Green signal-caller to eclipse 4,000 yards passing in a season (4,052) and the first to throw for 30 or more touchdowns (31). Fine was named Conference USA Offensive Player of the Year and was a first-team all-conference performer.
Littrell led the Mean Green to the second-best turnaround in the Football Bowl Subdivision in 2016, his first season at the helm. North Texas improved its win total by four games, finishing 5-8 on the season with a Zaxby’s Heart of Dallas Bowl appearance. Littrell helped lead the Mean Green to a 9.6 points per game jump in scoring offense from it’s output in 2016, which ranked 11th-best in the nation, and the 2016 defense allowed 8.7 points per game fewer than it did in 2015, which was the 13th-best turnaround in the country.
One of the brightest offensive minds in college football, Littrell came to North Texas after serving as the assistant head coach for offense and tight ends at North Carolina. At the time of his hire, the Muskogee, Oklahoma, native was the youngest coach in Conference USA and fifth youngest in the nation.
The dynamic mind of Littrell turned the North Carolina offense in 2015 into one of the nation’s best, as the Tar Heels set school records for most points and touchdowns in a season. The Tar Heels won the ACC Coastal Division Championship and played in their first ACC Championship game.
North Carolina scored over 30 points nine times in 2015, topped the 40-point mark seven times and scored over 50 points in four games, which was a school record. Through 12 games under Littrell’s guidance in 2015, UNC averaged 41.2 points a game, which at the time ranked 11th in the nation.
Under the leadership of Littrell, quarterback Marquise Williams set a new school record for career touchdowns (90) and total offense at North Carolina.
In 2015 with Littrell, the UNC offense averaged 7.46 yards per play, which at the time was second in the nation, and ran the ball for 6.0 yards a carry, which ranked third in the country. UNC was one of just 11 schools in the nation that averaged more than 200 yards rushing (229.7) and 250 yards passing (266.0). In 2015, UNC rushed for over 200 yards eight times and had over 500 yards of total offense in four games, including 704 yards in a 66-31 win over Duke.
In his first season in Chapel Hill in 2014, Littrell helped Carolina establish several school records, including most passing yards, most passing touchdowns and most first downs. Williams was a second-team all-conference pick after leading the Tar Heels to a bowl game in his first year as the starter, and set several individual school records, including most rushing yards and rushing touchdowns by a quarterback. Carolina gained more than 5,000 yards in Littrell’s first season as the play-caller and averaged 429.8 yards per contest.
Littrell came to Chapel Hill from Indiana where he guided one of the most prolific offenses in the country. Indiana finished ninth in the nation in total offense in 2013, averaging 508.5 yards per game. The Hoosiers were 17th in passing offense (306.7 avg.) and 30th in rushing offense (201.8). Indiana was one of only three teams to average more than 300 yards passing and 200 yards rushing
Under Littrell’s guidance in 2013, Indiana set single-season records with 6,102 total yards, (508.5 ypg), 461 points, (38.4 ppg), 36 passing touchdowns, 62 total touchdowns and 300 first downs. Tight end Ted Bolser thrived in his system, setting IU career records for receptions, receiving yards and touchdowns by a tight end.
Bolser and wide receiver Cody Latimer were selected in the 2014 NFL Draft. Latimer was taken in the second round (56th overall) by the Denver Broncos, while Bolser went in the seventh round to Washington.
In Littrell’s first season as Indiana’s offensive coordinator in 2012, the Hoosiers led the Big Ten and ranked 17th nationally in passing offense (311.2). They finished second in the conference in total offense (442.0) and fourth in scoring offense (30.8).
Prior to his stint at Indiana, Littrell coached three seasons at Arizona, where his 2011 offense ranked third nationally in passing offense (370.8) and 15th in total offense (465.2).
Three of his Arizona players were selected in the NFL draft: tight end Rob Gronkowski (New England - 2010 second round), quarterback Nick Foles (Philadelphia - 2012 third round) and wide receiver Juron Criner (Oakland - 2012 fifth round).
Prior to Arizona, Littrell served four years as running backs coach at Texas Tech (2005-08) under Mike Leach. The 2008 Red Raiders rushed for 119 rushing yards per game, the highest total in the Leach era. Running back Shannon Woods earned All-Big 12 Conference honors in 2006 after averaging 6.1 yards per carry and snagging 75 receptions, totaling a top 15 national figure of 139 all-purpose yards per game.
Littrell began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Kansas from 2002-04. The Jayhawks played in the 2003 Tangerine Bowl.
Littrell has coached in seven bowl games, played in two and was team captain on Oklahoma’s 2000 national championship team. He was a four-year letterwinner at Oklahoma where he rushed for 231 yards and seven touchdowns in 1999 and finished his career with 11 rushing scores.
The Muskogee native graduated from Oklahoma with a degree in communications in 2001.
