MCM has been retained to create anexciting
design for renovationsto the banquet and
meetingroom facilities at the Fairmont Waterfront
Hotel in downtownVancouver. Working
to compliment the existing millwork and lighting,
new carpet and furniture upgrades drew on local
seaside and mountain colour inspirations. Playing
with scale and pattern in shades of moss greens,
aqua, teal, and misty grays freshened the look and
feel of this perfectly positioned hotel.

Taking artist Mark Preston and Sabina
Hill’s graphic aboriginal art as
inspiration , MCM designed a magical
and spiritual room, based on the folk
story of the Raven and the Moon.
An overall palette of neutral tones,
with gold highlights give the suite
an airy and ethereal feel which
compliments the art and pays
homage to the traditional tale.

Unexpected challenges such as existing asbestos
and necessary plumbing riser improvements were
addressed with a flexible design solution for what
remain as the largest guest rooms in Vancouver,
now newly renovated. Maximizing views and
daylight was a prime objective for updating the
rooms to meet today’s market and guests’
expectations. Comfortable and dramatic lighting
highlights the modern shapes while the generous
use of textural materials suggests luxury. The stylish
bathrooms include slate tiles, textured glass,
reflective surfaces and a combination of unique
light fixtures.

beverage concepts including cafés, bars and
restaurants. The sophisticated design solution
provides an international, contemporary and
welcoming environment while meeting the
demands of hotel functionality. Creative space
solutions increase the available function and
dining space, while simplifying guests’ circulation.
The proof of this project’s success can be
summarized by guest feedback: “I thought it was a new hotel!”

This property, formerly the Coast Whistler Hotel, was well known as an
affordable respite for mainly younger, ski group excursion travellers.
The hotel is currently undergoing a complete renovation to appeal to a
more international and adventurous clientele base. Both an architectural
facelift to the exterior, as well as a complete renovation to the interior will
upgrade the existing facilities.
STATS80,000 SFWHISTLER, BC
The new schemes for the interiors will be loosely
based on the theme of “Fire and Ice”. A hip,
modern aesthetic will feature the play of cool and
warm materials, and will include both natural and
sleek materials.

Inter Continental Hotels Group wanted to create
the solution to just another beige hotel with “a hotel
whose unique design brings together math, art and
nature in complete symmetry, to give you a perfect
sense of balance and well-being.” The math behind
Hotel Indigo is based on a design constant found
in nature, art and architecture known as phi or the
Golden Mean. This was the introduction the Auspod
Design team was given to the Indigo project and
to this new IHG brand. We were also charge with
being the first designers to create “Interpret Indigo”
a regional, demographic interpretation of the
brand’s concept. This project was a renovation and
conversion from a Hampton Inn, the epitome of the
beige hotel, to the Scottsdale Hotel Indigo, centred,
anti-beige, vibrant and re-energizing.

Fort McDowell Resort & Casino features
248 guestrooms and suites, and an
18,000-square-foot state-of-the-art
ballroom with adjacent meeting space
and casino, all designed in conjunction
with and inspired by the people and
traditions of the Fort McDowell Yavapai
Nation. The design presents the story of
the Yavapai peoples’ journey, struggle and
proud accomplishments in establishing
their nation; design elements subtly
reference some of their talents in basket
weaving, dance and agriculture. The
design team worked extensively with the
community, elders and Yavapai Council
to accurately and appropriately represent
their heritage through materials, colour,
texture and placement of elements within
the project. The result is a sophisticated,
calm and inviting guest experience that
engages the mind and senses.

The NASCAR fan is changing and the design for OCTANE,
the club lounge at Phoenix International Raceway, is a reflection
of this fan evolution. We were asked to create a lounge space that
would be a high energy club environment for the sushi and wine bar
NASCAR clientele. To do this the team stripped down racing to the
basics-speed, fire, steel,
oil, activity.
Upon entering the space one is presented with a rustic steel wall and
opposite this a carved organic wall, referencing the garage and the
desert. The floor, at first glance, appears to be concrete and oil but
with further inspection a sophisticated intricate pattern emerges. To
juxtapose the heat of the desert and the fire from an engine both the
bar front and the glazing appear to be walls of water, the glazing wall
that leads to the exterior patio is a water feature. The space is dynamic
and very vibrant.
