Tatsu’s Restaurant in Prairie Village was the site of the 2014 Winter Gala on Saturday night, January 11th. The mem- bers enjoyed wonderful appetiz- ers and tasty beverages during a good session of mingling and chatting about everything from sports to the weather. Most talk seemed to be about the expe- riences with the Kansas City Section events during the year of 2013. And, there was a lot to talk about. The Defensive Driv- ing and Autocross, Art of the Machine, Art of the Car, Mind- Drive, Oktoberfest Concourse d’Elegance, Sunday Drives, Spaßnacht, just to name a few. A slide show continued running during the event so that all could catch up on memories of events they attended and/or see what others did that one may have missed. We were honored with the atten- dance of Bill Denton, MBCA Treasurer, and his wife Jeannie who traveled from their home in Oakbrook, Illinois to be with us. The food at Tatsu’s was wonder- ful. Appetizers were plentiful and tasty. The shrimp was especially good, served in a delicious sauce that defies descrip- tion. The dinner was the sit-down-and- be-served style with bread, salad, entree of tenderloin of beef with a wrap of pas- try on the edge, baked salmon, mashed sweet potato and mixed vegetables. Des- sert was served too. Many of us agreed that the fare was as simply outstanding. Dudley Smith presented a trophy to the winners of the infamous Smith Ral- lye to Donna and John Ryan. They won it because, according to John, Donna in- sisted that he drive in reverse gear when “necessary” in order to minimize the miles driven over the actual event mileage.
