Oregon University last Saturday, 95-53. Jamar Johnson scored a career-high 30 pointsand grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the Mountaineers. The junior was 10 of 11 from thefield, including 4 for 4 from behind the perimeter. Thomas McCarthy added 16 pointsafter shooting 4 of 6 from three-point range. Travares Peterson and Jason Mumm eachscored 11 points. JC Cook finished with 10 points. Cody Thurmond threw five assists.The Mountaineers shot 50 percent from the field, 13 of 29 from behind the arc, and 16for 21 from the free-throw line. The night before Eastern fell in a top 15 battle to then-No. 7 Oregon Tech, 93-80. EOU went just 1 of 16 from the field in the final minutes ofplay. McCarthy led the Mountaineers with 20 points.
ABOUT THE CAVALIERSThe Cavaliers (7-14, 1-9 CCC) have dropped four-straight league counters, but

LA GRANDE, Ore. – The No. 8 Eastern Oregon University
men’s basketball team rallied from an 11-point first half
deficit to beat Warner Pacific, 86-78, Friday.
The Mountaineers (13-2) (5-1) fell behind Warner Pacific,
23-12, after a Nick Schultens’ lay-up at the 13:20 mark of
the first half. The 11-point deficit was the largest EOU has
overcome during Isaac Williams’ coaching career which
began last season. Traevone Bowie gave WPC a 10-point
lead, 28-18, with 9:38 left in the first half.
That’s when Eastern made its move. The Mountaineers
went on a 15-4 run to take a 33-32 lead with 5:27 left in the
first half after a three-pointer from Thomas McCarthy. EOU
would never lose the lead. A lay-up from Jason Mumm gave Eastern Oregon its largest lead of
the first half with 55 seconds remaining, 47-40.
EOU led 47-42 at halftime, but stretched its lead to 15 points at the 7:19 mark of the second half
with an Anthony Brown three-pointer. The Mountaineers finished 10 of 26 from behind the perime-
ter for 38 percent. Eastern was 46 percent from the field in the game. EOU was 58 percent from
the free throw line (18-31).
Eastern Oregon outrebounded WPC, 49-34. The Knights entered the game with a Cascade
Collegiate Conference-best average of 16 offensive rebounds per game, but finished with nine
Friday. The Mountaineers threw 22 assists to Warner Pacific’s 17.
McCarthy finished with a game-high 19 points. The senior was 6 of 13 from the field and 5 of 10
from behind the arc. The Prineville, Ore. native added nine rebounds. Jason Mumm had a dou-
ble-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds.
Travares Peterson and JC Cook finished with 13 points and 12 points respectively for the
Mountaineers. Brown added nine rebounds, while Cody Thurmond and Josh Cottle each had
seven assists.

LA GRANDE, Ore. – The No. 8 Eastern Oregon University
men’s basketball team improved to 4-1 in conference play
with a 96-75 win over Concordia Thursday.
Despite a triple double from Concordia’s Gage Aker, the
Mountaineers (12-2) (4-1) won their sixth straight game
over the Cavaliers. Aker finished with 17 points, 13
rebounds, and 10 assists. Dustin Hiebert added 16 points
for CU. Drew Preuninger and Kevan West scored 14 and
12 points for the Cavaliers respectively.
Thomas McCarthy led Eastern with a game-high 20 points.
The senior finished 7 of 12 from the field, including 6 for 9
from behind the perimeter. Three other Mountaineers
finished in double digits, Jason Mumm scored 12 points, Jared Heitzman had a career-high 11
points, and Travares Peterson added 10 points. Anthony Brown grabbed nine of team-high 10
rebounds in the first half. Josh Cottle had 10 assists along with eight rebounds and six points.
All 12 players on Eastern Oregon’s roster played in the game, and all 12 scored. The
Mountaineers shot 48 percent from the field, and 34 percent from three-point range. EOU made
11 of its 32 attempts from behind the arc. It marked the eighth time this season Eastern has made
at least 10 three-pointers in a game.
The Mountaineers entered the game with the second-best three-point percentage defense, and
11th in NAIA Div. 2, holding opponents to 28 percent from behind the perimeter. Thursday,
Concordia made 10 of its 22 three-pointers, finishing 45 percent in the game. The Cavaliers shot
41 percent from the field.
Concordia (5-9) (0-4) opened the game with a 5-0 lead, and EOU then tied the game at 8-8. The
Mountaineers began to pull away with a 14-4 run over the next three minutes. Eastern led by as
many as 18 points in the first half, including its 51-33 halftime advantage.

hometown of Portland this weekend, and thejunior is looking forward to showing off hisskills at home. The Mt. Hood CommunityCollege transfer leads NAIA Div. 2 shooting 48 percent from behind the perimeter.Johnson averages 14.1 points per game, andhas hit 45 of his 92 attempts from long dis-tance this season. He is shooting 51 percentfrom the field and 86 percent from the free-throw line. Johnson is riding off of Eastern’sfirst 30-point performance in two seasons.

from behind the perimeter this season. TheMountaineers are second in NAIA Div. 2 inthree-pointers made per game (9.95), and isfourth in total three-pointers made (199). EOUis 11th in the country in three-point percent-age (38%). Jamar Johnson is first in the coun-try with his 48 percent shotting from three-point range. Thomas McCarthy is 10th inNAIA Div. 2 with 64 three-pointers, making 3.2per game which is seventh in the nation.

TOP 25 STREAK CONTINUESThe Eastern Oregon University men’s basketball team
returned to No. 12 in the NAIA Div. 2 Top 25 Monday. TheMountaineers split over the weekend with a loss to then No. 7Oregon Tech Friday and a win over Southern Oregon who wasreceiving votes. EOU received 282 points in the sixth edition ofthe poll. Eastern appears in the Top 25 for a school-record 17thstraight time. The Mountaineers have been in the Top 25 in 23 ofthe last 24 polls. EOU has been in the Top 25 in every poll datingback to last season’s preseason poll on Oct. 26 when it receivedvotes. The Mountaineers had their best preseason ranking in the2008-09 season when they started at No. 6. EOU climbed to No.3 in the national poll that season, the highest in school history,before ending the season in the national quarterfinals.

Collegiate Conference Players of the Week honors this sea-son. Anthony Brown and Thomas McCarthy each were award-ed. McCarthy was honored for his efforts from Dec. 27 fromJan. 2, and Brown was the recipient for his Jan. 10 to Jan. 16performances. Jordan Gregg was the lone winner last season,and Kris Groce took the honor in 2008-09.
