Recycling Program Works!

• In 2010, City launched its enhanced recycling program:

• Larger carts• Every-other-week recycling• RecylceBank rewards program

• Program has grown participation by more than 75%

• Current participation is around 70%

• We know we can do even better!

The Challenge

• Open to all Cincinnati Community Councils

• Help encourage recycling amongst non-participants

• Help identify misused or abused recycling carts

The Reward

• $100 for entering the challenge

• $250 for increasing recycling in your community by 10%

• PLUS bonuses!

The Reward

• Cart Recovery Incentive: • Community can earn $100 for identifying misused or

abused carts

• RecycleBank Incentive: • Sign neighbors up for RecycleBank and earn up

to $500

The Reward

• Three $1,000 grand prizes!

• Grand prize winners will be judged on the following:

• % increase of residents recycling • Number of abused/misused carts recovered • % increase in residents registered for

RecycleBank

• Winners announced in April

• We’ll supply you with information about non-participating homes

• The Office of Environmental Quality, Rumpke and RecycleBank will offer a tool kit to participating communities

• Postcards will be sent to non- participating residents

What Can I Recycle?

• Paper: newspaper and inserts, magazines and catalogs, junk mail, envelopes, phone books, paper grocery bags, cereal and snack boxes, cardboard (flatten to 3’ x 3’) and clean pizza boxes (free of food and grease)• Plastics: plastic bottles and jugs (no lids)• Glass: glass bottles and jars (any color, lids removed)• Metals: aluminum cans, metal cans and lids, tin cans and aerosol cans (with lids and tips removed)

Not Acceptable

• No garbage• No food• No yard waste• No plastic bags• No electronics• No syringes• No light bulbs• No window or drinking glass• No batteries• No ceramics or dishes
