COURSE DESCRIPTION & LEARNING OBJECTIVESThese board review courses are designed for physicians who are preparing for the gastroenterology and hepatology board exam, and the growing number of gastroenterologists preparing for recertification. The program structure is intended to provide the user with knowledge in gastroenterology, hepatology, liver transplantation, and related areas of pathology, endoscopy, nutrition, and radiology.
Upon conclusion of this program, participants should be able to:
• Identifyesophageal,gastric,smallboweland colon diseases and other disorders of the gastrointestinal tract.
• Articulatediagnosticandtherapeuticapproaches to patients with digestive diseases.
• Discussrelevantareasofgastrointestinaland hepatobiliary pathology, endoscopy and radiology.
• Use information provided in the course to appropriately evaluate and manage patients with acute and chronic liver disease including genetic,autoimmune, metabolic and viral causes of liver disease.
• Recognizetheroleofvariousvaccinations and determine when to use them in immunosuppressed patients.

INTENDED AUDIENCEThese board review courses are designed for gastroenterologists and hepatologists preparing for certifying and maintenance of recertification examinations. Clinicians, physician assistants and nurse practitioners wanting to consolidate current understanding of digestive diseases, including diagnostic and therapeutic approaches to patient management, also may benefit from this program.
ABIM MAINTENANCE OF CERTIFICATION SESSION(Optional session, additional registration required)
On Wednesday, September 5, 2012 from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m., an optional maintenance of certification session will be offered to help GIphysicianspreparefortheboardexamand recertification process. The optional session is chaired by expert faculty who willanalyzeeachmodulequestion,reviewcurrent evidence and key points and summarizeclinicalpearls.Sessionattendees actively participate using an audience response system and a common consensus would be achieved in answering thesequestions.Thecollectiveinformationgathered in this interactive session enhances individual knowledge and longer retention of current medical information.
