All of us in business take up leadership positions as the owner or manager of our business because we must. When we volunteer our time to help lead an organization like DMA then it is special because we choose to do it. Organizations like DMA need good people all the time. If you have the time right now, we need a little boost calling on businesses to invite them to join DMA. We are working on a new brochure to help leave an impression, but the personal invite is what counts. I also have the 8ps sheets. I can teach you my elevator pitch for DMA if you like or make up your own. "DMA is a volunteer business organization dedicated to building Duluth's prosperity one member at a time".
After nearly four months where do we find DMA? We have had some great meetings and our marketing team volunteering many hours.
1. We have had four meeting two with presentations and two networking.
Planet Fitness-Keith Bryant, Topic Health and Fitness in Business
Rexall Grill- Lynda Alley- DMA marketing tools available and how to use them. We also had a flow-up meeting.
Steverino's - Henry Harrington, Networking a Cash Mob Stimulus and donation to Hands of Christ. Introduction of the Cash Mobs concept.
Super Networking Meeting-Mini Expo for eight non facility members at the Duluth Festival Center.
Next meeting - Duluth Fine Wines & Spirits, Bernard Robertson, Board Meeting 5 PM, Lots of great wine and networking. Can't beat that with a wet stick.
2. We formed a marketing committee lead by Bill and Sheri Eppright, Sunny Ramsay at the Newsletter helm and Albert Marquez at the Web Site, Results:
Lots of PR images positive vibes for DMA. DMA ranked high on the Google search engine, promotion legs on other media like the Duluth Patch of our events and education of why belong to DMA.
A newsletter with great content and improved presentation plus advertising for our members. Yes members took the time to advertise
An active Facebook Page with encouragement to push out to thousands of friends tied to our members
A new DMA Members News Page directed to our members on a more frequent basis with lots of Buzz of what's going. WOW!
3. Some members are moving on to different priorities in their lives. Such is the nature of a volunteer business organization. I encourage the active members to
come forward to volunteer your time. We all need to invite new potential members to our meetings and reach out and take advantage of the opportunity to grow your business using the DMA promotion tools. I am proud to be a DMA member,
Jim Johnson

Duluth Merchants Proudly "Expose" Themselves at Mini Expo
It was a balmy spring evening on April 3rd, when leaders of the Duluth Merchants Association encouraged local
DMA member businesses to "expose" themselves and their product/services for all the world to see. The show
was followed by applause; cameras flashed, and Video cameras rolled. Names and phone numbers were
exchanged.
You guessed it! This was the first Duluth Merchants Association Mini Expo. Held at the Duluth Festival Center on
the Town Square. DMA member businesses flaunted their goods and services. Eight foot vertical banners framed
creative display tables, offering promotional give-a-ways and enticements. Handshakes and business cards flew
around the room. The Positive Public Image monitor looped its colorful images and Duluth Patch DMA blogs for
the pleasure of entertained and informed guests. Friendships and "Business-ships" were crafted.

Everyone enjoyed tasty Southern delights provided by caterer and DMA member Lynda Alley of Duluth Rexall Grill.
The audience included fellow DMA members, invited and distinguished guests, city officials, and potential new
members wanting to get in on the fun. Exhibitors included:
Don't worry if you missed the gala event. Since it was highly successful, Duluth Merchants Association and friends are planning Expos quarterly. Attendance is open to the public, but you must be a member to exhibit.
Become a DMA member and you too can "expose" yourself and your business for the Duluth Community and all the world to see. Just think, four times a year you'll have an opportunity to stand side by side with your favorite local business, share business cards, get your picture taken, and bring positive attention to your business. Work on your presentation pitch. Gather your collateral, and get ready to join the fun. It's good for your business, and good for the local economy.
