NEWSLETTER
May 10th, 2013 186 Balaclava Road, Caulfield North

FRENCH SECTION ELECTIVE
Incursion about games Last Friday, all CJC grade 1 and 2 students enjoyed an incursion about games. They discovered and played many of the games proposed. Playing with your child is important, as much as it is for children to be able to play games together, for language acquisition, maths, interpersonal development, and psychological and physical development. If you want to know more about some games in French, we recommend you visit this website: genevieve.cavaye.pagesperso-orange. CJC parents committee initiative To develop students awareness on recycling, 4 FSE students (Pauline E, Manon P, Inès V et Eloïse D) have collected last Thursday all wrappings/papers from all CJC students lunch boxes : 456 wrappings altogether were collected, which approximately comes to one per student. This action will happen every Thursday this term: our goal is to reach zero wrapping, so help us develop your child’s awareness of our impact on environment by using as few wrapping paper as possible in his/her lunchbox. Junior assemblies Her is the planning for Junior assemblies led by FSE classes: Wednesday 15 May Cat LA3 Wednesday 12 June Maureen LA10 Wednesday 19 June Anne-Cécile LA6 NAPLAN tests NAPLAN tests assess all Australian grade 3 and 5 students in literacy and maths. Because of NAPLAN tests this year taking place from 14 to 16 May, FSE grade 3 and 5 students will be in their Australian LA next week. Meanwhile, FSE Grades 4 and 6 will be in their French class. Working Bee The next working bee will take place on Sunday 19 May from 1pm to 4pm. You are welcome with all your family to give us a hand on small work around CJC and make our school even more attractive.
Fundraising EFM Don’t forget that a fundraising dinner for the EFM will take place on Saturday 1st June: make your bookings before May 16! All the details about this soirée are in this newsletter.

Thoughtful Thursday
This week we had our rubbish free ‘Thoughtful Thursday’ for the second time. It was
great to have most of the LA’s participate and we have already had a huge improvement
from last week with a total of 397 pieces. Hopefully next week we can improve even
further. Rubbish free lunch is more than just taking food out of wrappers and placing
them in your child’s lunch box. Each year Australians produce 21 million tonnes of waste
and we are trying to do our bit at CJC to make a change. The teacher’s from each LA will
be having discussions with your students about the environment and the importance of
recycling, reusing and reducing our waste. Below is a diagram of a great environmentally
friendly lunchbox. It contains reusable containers and is divided up into compartments.
This makes it easy to wash and reuse the next day and the best part it is there is no
plastic needed to wrap anything in! We are making a change one step at a time around
the school and we ask for you to please make some changes at home too.

SPORTS NEWS
INTERSCHOOL AND DISTRICT SPORTS INFORMATION
In Term 2 we have begun a number of sporting events. These will take or have taken place
outside the grounds of CJC. They range from District trials in AFL, Soccer, Basketball and
Netball, to Cross Country (both school and district), and the normal Winter Sport competitions
against other schools. Find below a timetable of events TO THE BEST OF MY KNOWLEDGE as
of typing .If there are any changes I will make sure all stakeholders are informed ASAP. Grades
5/6 will continue with our Interschool Winter Sports Competition against other schools in the
Caulfield and District Primary School Sports Association (CDPSSA) A draw is attached to this
memo.
Well done to all staff, parents and especially students who made our Cross Country program
such a success last Monday. What I loved the most was the encouragement CJC students gave
each other regardless of what position the runners were in. The first 10, plus 2 emergencies have
been selected based on times and the list is attached to this memo. Well done to all those
students. Emergencies will be notified ASAP if they will be needed on the day The Caulfield
District Cross Country will be held on Tuesday the 28th
May at Caulfield Park. Starting
times to be confirmed.
Cheers
Russell

***** CJC PARENT’S COMMITTEE NEWS *****
*Yum Yum Yum*
The next Cake Stall will be on Friday 24 May, 3.30pm
We need lots and lots of cakes, so if you can help out, please bring along nut-free
yummies (cakes, muffins, slices, etc) with a list of ingredients attached and take them
to the cake stall in the middle of the school, just before 3.30.
Please Note: If you are unable to drop cakes of at 3.30, you can leave cakes with
the office anytime on Friday, even at drop off time. Feel free to bring purchased
cakes too (as long as ingredients are listed).
The next Parents Committee meeting is on Tuesday 28 May, 7.45pm.
We are keen to have more parents join. It doesn’t take much time, it’s fun and we could
really do with some extra help. Any questions or feedback, please contact: Tonia Barol-
sky (0412 373 629 or [email protected]) or Nicole Brittain (0419 352
