JCSP Library Initiative - Drama Workshop with Myles Breen
JCSP Poetry Event in Dublin
First year students did a workshop writing comedy scripts and
developing their acting skills with famous Limerick actor and
playwright, Myles Breen! The students had lots of fun writing and
performing sketches and Myles said, You have some great talent in
St Nessans, the key is to keep practicing your writing and acting
skills!
St Nessans is very proud of its second and first year students
who represented their school and Limerick so well at the JCSP
WraPPa-round event at the National Library of Ireland in Dublin.
This event was organised by the JCSP Library Project and Poetry
Ireland to bring student poets and rappers from all over Ireland
together to perform their poems and raps on stage. To prepare for
this event, the students took part in poetry and rap workshops in
the schools JCSP library to learn how to write and perform in front
of an audience. Well done to Kate Price, Chantelle Troy, Leah
Vaughan, Natalie Cleary, Courtney Barrett, Niall Keane and Tony
OHalloran! Afterwards a very successful and enjoyable performance,
the students celebrated with lunch at Captain Americas on Grafton
Street!
Well done to the winners of the Poetry Competition organised by
the JCSP team for students and staff! Win-ners: Ms OConnor, Ms
Raf-tery, Tara Madeley, Louise Murray, Matias Grandi, May-Lee Boey,
Cian ODonnell and Cherise Ring.
St. Nessans Community College poets!
We had an exciting morning of code-breaking in the JCSP library
with the numeracy team! First years broke substitution ciphers
using frequency analysis. Top tip - E is the most common letter in
the English language followed by T and A!
Future code-breakers in action!

Temoignages des Voyageurs et voyageurs
Rebecca Murray: In France, you will travel all around Paris by
using the metro and see all the well-known tourist attractions such
as the Eiffel Tower, Le Louvre (which includes the famous painting
of the Mona lisa by Leonardo Da Vinci), the Arc de Triomphe, the
castle and beautiful gardens of Versailles, Moulin Rouge and many
more attractions. In Paris with Madame Andre you will also spend an
entire day in Disneyland where you will watch a spectacular
fireworks show in front of the castle. This four day trip is
definately worth it and you will remember this experience for
ever.Louise Murray: The school trip to Paris is a great experience
and is also very educational. You will see many great attractions
and have a lot of fun.Kai Ashley: Disneyland was good and I had fun
talking to the lads. Hotel was alright. Crepes were nice.Tyreak
Chaddad: Exciting and very sore and brilliant.Evan Franklin:
Disneyland was good. The weter was good. Crepes were nice and most

France was Disneyland. We had a lot of fun on the roller
coastersHannah Muller: Paris is really exciting. If you are not
going youre missing a lot of fun, a great experience and all the
Paris attractions. We spent one whole day in Disneyland Paris. We
went on different rides and everyone could do what they wanted to
do. Paris is great! If you want to have a picture with the Eiffel
tower, as big as you, go with Madame Andre to Paris, she knows
where to get the best pictures!Nicola Carmodys local jokes: What is
the clumsiest monument of Paris? the Eiffel Tower (I fell)What do
you say to an annoying French person? Bah get away (baguette)Madame
Andre: Wow!! again... speechless!! That was some crowd to bring to
France!! It is such a pleasure to bring some of my Irish stu-dents
to show them my capital and to witness the culture shock. The
adventure is priceless in a way because when I saw your eyes lit up
on so many occasions during 4 days it makes me happy. Roll on Paris
2016! My greatest thanks to Ms Mai Patton for coming with us this
year.. My eternal thanks to Ms Aideen OBrien without whom I could
not rock the boat.. Mr Eugene OBrien merci for allowing this
amaz-ing and rewarding experience for students and teachers. And
indeed parents.. my hat to you for all your support and
encouragement.

A Numeracy Orienteering Event was held on the 1st May, to
promote approaches to teaching and learning that engages and
motivates students in all aspects of numeracy. The orienteering
event was introduced in a cross curricular manner through physical
education to exercise the mind and body. Students traversed an
outdoor course using a map, measuring distances, working of
numeracy ques-tions at each junction and navigated their way to the
correct answers. Students gained knowledge regarding numeracy in a
manner that was fun, they worked in teams and supported each other
to answer as many numeracy related questions as possible. First
year students put a huge effort into the activity and big
congratulations to all the first years. There were a number of
individual students put in a huge effort on the day motivating
their teams and leading by example. The Numeracy team and P.E
department would like the thank the many teachers helped out and
encouraged the the students on the day without which the event
would not be possible.

On Wednesday, the 29th April, our Turbo Titans Team Competition
got to go to Dublin Castle to compete for the F1 in Schools
National Finals competition. We managed to go on the Tuesday as we
had to set up the entire pit display to be ready for judging at 8am
the next morning. We had great fun stopping off at Supermacs on the
way up and finding the venue (no thanks to Mr. Doodys directions!)
Luckily, Ms ODriscoll was on hand to keep things moving so we could
fit in a bit of shopping time afterwards! We then got to enjoy a
lovely dinner in Nandos where Hannah showed us Irish up by being
the only person to order a salad. Obviously we were all tucked up
in bed early so we could be our best for the next days Finals. On
the day we were there really early & had to have our car ready
for testing before it raced. We also had to be at our stand a lot
as there were judges around all day, evaluating us on various
aspects of the project (engineering and mar-keting side, etc). We
got to meet the Minister for Skills, Research and Innovation,
Damien English and listen to an expert in Formula 1, Steve Nevy,
Former F1 Red Bull Racing Business Development Manager giving the
teams a presentation of Life in Real Formula 1 Racing.
Unfortunately although we ranked highly on all aspects of the
competition, we didnt come away with any awards. We were really
disappointed but it didnt take away from how much weve learnt and
how much weve enjoyed doing this. Weve
all excelled in our chosen areas and developed massively in our
self-confidence. Big thanks to both our teachers, Mr Doody and Ms
ODriscoll for all the time and effort they put in and for all the
entertaining they did on the bus journey home!
