Dear Hillcrest Members, In the last edition of The Highlights, details were shared regarding the many improvements happening at our club. Here is a quick update: Golf Course The range hitting area has been increased to 22,000 sq. ft. and will be open by May 1st.

The short game practice area continues to grow and will be open around June 1st. Hole #4 looks great and has is open for normal play - so hit it long! New cart paths along with fresh sod at #4, 7, 8, 9, 17, 18 and the range should already be in use. Three new fairway bunkers at hole #4 and one new green side bunker at hole #7.

Tennis Pro Shop The design has been approved by the city and construction will be completed in early June. Clubhouse Exterior stucco repair and painting is underway with a completion date of early June.

Dining renovations are turning out to be better than expected. We will be ready for the Grand Opening prior to the Celebrity Invitational.

These projects would not be possible without the generous support of our many members and volunteers listed on the following page.

Our membership is really going to enjoy these improvements to our club. The Hillcrest team has been busy planning the many golf, tennis, swimming, and social activities we all look forward to. Many thanks to Mike, Jerad, Zach, Kim, Chef Behn, Jeanette, and Sam for their planning efforts. Check the previous page of “Save the Dates”, as it looks to be another great summer season at Hillcrest. Spring membership levels are strong and we have a number of new members joining us this year. Our membership opportunities are still in place and we certainly have room for more new members. Our club is known for its friendly family atmosphere. If you have family, friends, or business associates whom you think would enjoy Hillcrest, please contact me at 402.489.711 for a tour of our great club. We look forward to another great summer at HCC! Sincerely,

A MESSAGE FROM THE GENERAL MANAGER

A Message from our

General Manager A MESSAGE FROM THE DIRECTOR OF GOLF

Dear Members, It is great to be golfing again at Hillcrest. As always, Brian Hellbusch along with the Grounds and Greens Staff has the course in super condition. Please come out to enjoy your golf course and its beauty. Hillcrest was re-rated this spring by the Nebraska Golf Association Rating Team. The rating process requires a study of each hole, including detailed data obtained at all landing zones for both the scratch and the bogey golfer. The rating teams use the average shot lengths for both scratch and bogey golfers to determine the landing zones. Length corrections and obstacle values are considered at each landing zone. There is more information regarding the course rating in this addition of the Highlights. We will continue to promote our family short course option for fun family golf. Permanent short course tees will be added this summer for family play. These tees will be at junior length. A scorecard will be available in the golf shop for all players wanting to challenge their short game skills. Hillcrest is thrilled once again to be a local qualifying site for The National Drive Chip and Putt Championship on June 4th. The finals will be contested at The Augusta National Golf Club in April of 2017. This is a great opportunity for local juniors as well as our very own Hillcrest junior golfers to compete in this fun and rewarding event. For more details or to register please visit www.drivechipandputt.com or visit the Hillcrest webpage to see the ad. The Nebraska PGA and Nebraska Golf Association will be on site operating the Drive Chip & Putt qualifier. The PGA and NGA have asked for volunteers from Hillcrest to help on the day of the competition. If you are interested in being a volunteer for this special day, please contact me at 402-489-8181 or (DCP Committee Captain) Mike Moss at 402-486-4988. The Drive Chip and Putt competition will be using the driving range and large practice green. The golf course will still be available for regular member play. In closing, I am looking forward to our member enjoying a wonderful summer of golfing activities here at Hillcrest. This addition of the Highlights will help you make some golfing plans. Please join us. Sincerely, Mike Brown

A joint initiative founded in 2013 by the Masters

Tournament, United States Golf Association and the PGA of

America, the Drive, Chip and Putt Championship is a free

nationwide junior golf development competition aimed at

growing the game by focusing on the three fundamental skills

employed in golf. By tapping the creative and competitive

spirit of girls and boys ages 7-15, the Drive, Chip and Putt

Championship provides aspiring junior golfers an

opportunity to play with their peers in qualifiers around

the country. Participants who advance through local,

sub-regional and regional qualifying in each age/gender

category earn a place in the National Finals, which is

conducted at Augusta National Golf Club the Sunday before

the Masters Tournament and is broadcast live by Golf

Channel. For more information about the Drive, Chip and

Putt Championship, please visit:

www.DriveChipandPutt.com.

Social Member Golf Privilege

A Social Golf Membership affords a playing privilege a total of 6 times annually. These rounds are not transferable

and are considered redeemed if 9 or 18 holes have been played. A social member may rent the use of a riding

cart. Reservations for play must be arranged by calling the golf shop 402-489-8181.

Dress Code

The dress code is in full effect May 1st until through October 1st

The Board of Directors reminds all members and their families that the club does enforce a dress code for the golf

course and all practice facilities.

All males must wear shirt with sleeves. Shirts without collars must be suitable country club style.

Males and females may wear shorts, as long as they are mid thigh length.

Jeans are not acceptable attire from May 1st through October 1st. Razor cuts or torn jeans are never

appropriate.

Unacceptable dress includes tank tops, halter tops, tube tops, cutoff shorts, jogger shorts, gym shorts, and

swim trunks.

Oversized and sloppy attire is not appropriate for a country club atmosphere.

Everyone must wear shoes. Shoes with pronounced heels and cleated soles are prohibited on the golf

course.

We offer instruction for the junior golfer age 7-17. This program is designed to introduce new players to the game as well as improving the experienced junior’s game. Each junior will be taught the swing fundamentals in our junior golf schools. Upon completion of the golf schools, each junior will have the opportunity to play the course on “Play Day” Fridays or work on improving in the skills clinics. Recommendations on whether a junior should do “Play Days” or skill clinic will be made by the Professional staff. The cost is $45 per junior and you can call the pro shop to sign up at 402-489-8181

Come join the fun as

we look forward to a

great season.

Guest Play

A playing guest may be hosted for golf a total of 6 times annually and is inconsequential of the member hosting.

This includes men’s stags, men’s golf breakfast and ladies guest events.

All guest rounds must be registered in the golf shop and guest fees settled before play.

Handicap Policy

In an ongoing effort to insure that our member-only and member plus guest events have strong participation the

handicap committee will be conducting periodic handicap reviews. These reviews have been encouraged by the

United States Golf Association in accordance with the USGA Handicap Manual. The main purpose behind the GHIN

Handicap Service is to provide a fair Course Handicap for each player regardless of ability.

Two basic premises underlie the USGA Handicap System:

1. Each player will try to make the best score at every hole in every round regardless of where the round is

played.

2. The player will post every acceptable round for peer review.

Therefore the golf committee is implementing an ongoing program of handicap peer review. All members who carry

handicaps at Hillcrest will be subject to adjustments if their handicaps do not accurately reflect their potential playing

ability. A course handicap must reflect a players best potential, not an average.

The Golf Committee expects all rounds played will be posted, with the following procedures to help members ensure

they are accurately posting their scores:

1. Scores must be posted using Equitable Stoke Control (see the golf shop for procedure)

2. If a round is incomplete: 13 holes or fewer, the player must post an 18-hole score. If 7 to 12 holes are

played; the player must post a 9-hole score. In either case, scores for un-played holes must be recorded as

par plus any handicap strokes the player is entitled to receive on the un-played holes.

3. Post all score from the tees played.

4. Score must be posted as a “Tournament Score” if the event is so designated.

Member bringing guest for events should make every effort to provide an accurate handicap for that guest. If guest

scores’ do not reflect the handicap provided the committee reserves the right to adjust the handicap at the comple-

tion of play.

Hillcrest Country Club has enjoyed terrific participation in our various events. Many things go in to a successful event

experience… event promotion, staff preparation, course condition, and most importantly member participation. If

members do not feel they are competing on equal footing with other participants, event participation will erode. The

golf committee once again asks you to up-hold the honor of this very unique and incredible game by posting your

scores accurately.

Thank you for your cooperation in all these matters.

Sincerely,

Hillcrest Golf Committee

Obstacles Specific to Hillcrest; Trees: Trees is the evaluation of the size and density of the trees, their distance from the center of the landing zone or green, the length of the shot to that target, and the difficulty of recovery.

Dear Members, Thank you to everyone who registered for activities at “Meet the Pros”. We sure appreciate families taking the time to sign up early – and the staff loves to see how much all of our swimmers have grown over the school year! If you could not attend “Meet the Pros”, you can reach me at: [email protected], or sign up at the pool (489-1840), when we open for the season. Those who sign up by May 17th will receive their team t-shirts the first week of practice. If you register after the 17th of May, your shirt will be on the second order, which should arrive the second week of June. Parents can show their team spirit by ordering team shirts too. Our swimmers and divers will have new suits this year. They will be navy blue, with our club logo printed on them. The sizing kit of swimsuits will remain at the club through the first week of practice, if you need to use it . These customized suits can only be purchased through Sylvia’s Swimwear– you can order through their website, at www.goswim.com (code is HILLCREST, password is hillcrestcc ). The first order deadline is Thursday, May 5th, at 9 AM, PST. Delivery time should take about three weeks. If you miss the first deadline, the store will re-open, and orders will be filled at a later date. We are excited about the new suits, and hope to be able to use them for several years. (Team suits are optional.) The coaching staff is excited to get things rolling! Crew Keller will be back to coach the 13 – 18 year old swimmers, I will again work with the 11-12 year old swimmers, Jordan Brozek and Claire Fortenberry will coach the 9-10 year old swimmers, and Olivia Appleget, Braly Keller and Hannah Zuercher will be working with our 8 and unders. Maddie Tolly will also be back to coach the divers. Other returning staff members include: Joseph Berrick, Allison McElroy, Jacob Olson and Sammy Zitek. New staff members include: Joseph Brozek, Olivia Coffey, Sydney Long, Alec Miller, Jared Murray and Molly Zuercher. A relay meet has been added to the swim team schedule this summer. It is scheduled for Monday, July 11th, at Hillcrest. At this time, we are hoping that the League decides to return to Bob Devaney for our Championship Swim Meet on Monday, July 18th. It’s always fun for our swimmers to have the opportunity to swim in such a beautiful facility and be able to be on deck to cheer on their teammates, while parents are able to enjoy a much larger spectator seating capacity and awesome scoreboard!

We will be having a pre-season swim team clinic on Saturday, May 28th, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. It is highly recommended for anyone new to our team, and a good opportunity for all swimmers to get some coaching before diving in to the craziness of the first week of practice! Our first week of practice, we will have swimmers, who are 11-18 years old, swim from 10:30 a.m. – 11:15 a.m., and swimmers, age 10 and under, will meet from 11:15 a.m. – Noon. Our first week of both swim and dive team, is a free “try-out” week. Swimmers must be able to swim 25 yards, continuously, to be able to join the team. Our league recommends that swimmers be at least 6 years old, before participating. The Parks and Recreation League requires that divers be 6 years old to participate. There is also a pre-season dive clinic May 31st – June 3rd, from Noon – 1:00 p.m. This is open to anyone, age 6- 18, who wants to learn more about diving, or returning divers, who would like to get ready for the season. Please enroll your young children in swim lessons, as drowning is a leading cause of accidental deaths for children, age five and under. Watch them closely around the water this summer! Please also make it a goal for your children to pass the highest level of lessons offered. Swimming is an important lifetime sport. Do not substitute swim team for swim lessons, as perfecting all four strokes is so important, and hard for most swimmers to do by just attending practice. We are hoping to offer a synchronized swimming clinic in June. If you are interested in participating, please let me know! If anyone is interested in swimming laps in the morning, before our programs start, please let me know. We would appreciate your help in reserving the gate adjacent to Teencrest for golfers only – it is not to be used as an entrance to the pool. Please remember to sign in at the sign-in desk every time you come to swim (whether you are bringing guests or not). See you soon! Jeanette Keller Aquatics Director
