God’s Plan for Sharing (GPS) Across Tennessee update – After much praying, planning, training, and anticipation, GPS Across Tennessee was a success. Easter Sunday attendance was not as large, as we hoped county wide, but there were visitors in most churches on Easter. Most pastors have indicated that although the crowds were not as large as anticipated, the event was successful from the standpoint of getting Polk County Baptist Association church members into the communities. There was a report of one man saved, as a result of the door to door efforts, but all churches have not sent a report. Because of your hard work, Polk County Baptist Association churches reached out to approximately 7,000 homes. Great job! Keep praying and keep working. The damaging storms, which occurred the week following Easter produced extreme damage, in the region and beyond. The Polk County Baptist Association churches began ministering to those in need, in the Pinhook community of Polk County and in Bradley County. Many of you were serving only hours after the storms moved through the area. Some churches and some individuals provided food, cooked meals, clothes, water, chain saw assistance, roof covering, chaplain service, personal hygiene products, school supplies, financial support, and other help, for those in need. Thank you for all storm relief efforts, which honored our Lord. As people looked upon these good works, they glorified your Father, in Heaven (MT 5:16). We encourage your church to e-mail information of storm relief service, which we could highlight in the church news section of the next Broadcaster. At this time, there have been at least ten Polk County Baptist Association churches serving to offer relief for storm victims. The Southern Baptist Convention will meet in June. Please pray for the SBC President, SBC leaders, and the messengers, as they will transact the business of the convention. Everyone will need God’s wisdom, as decisions are made, which will determine our methods of accomplishing the Great Commission. The Community Revival offering for the association totaled $ 2,628.01, which was not available at print time of the March – April Broadcaster. Thank you to

Words from our Directo r of Miss io ns - Rya n Potts

everyone who gave to this special offering. The offering helped provide some much needed financial cushion, at a crucial time. Also, the revival honored our great God, by the Polk County Baptist Association Churches working together. The cooperation was excellent, the attendance was good each night, and the decisions made an eternal difference. Some comments shared with me from church leaders concerning the revival: “the most successful event I have ever participated in with the association”, “far exceeded my expectations”, and “God was moving”. Many of you have expressed concern for my mom, Reba Coleman. While recovering from the March heart attack and stroke, other unrelated surgery was required, which revealed that she had a recurrence of cancer, from 2010. On Friday May 13, she went to her home, in Greenfield, Tennessee, with the assistance of sitters, family, and hospice care. Thank you for every prayer, call, card, text, encouragement, assistance with travel expense, and many other expressions of concern and comfort offered to my family. The most urgent prayer need, at this time, is Mom’s comfort, pain control, and ease during her transition to Heaven. In the weeks and months to come, my involvement in Mom’s care will be required, at a greater level. Thank you, in advance, for your understanding, during these difficult days. You can check out upcoming events in the PCBA calendar, the Broadcaster newsletter, or at www.polkcountybaptist.org. Thank you for the opportunity to serve the Lord, by serving Polk County Baptist churches. Remember, We can do more together! (see I Cor. 3:9a) Ryan

Thank you, churches, for the volunteers!

Using Your Camp Several PCBA churches have

already made arrangements to use the Camp this summer for fellowships, baptisms, retreats, and weddings. We also have

mission and retreat groups scheduled throughout the summer.

There is still room available. If you hear of a church looking for a Retreat or Mission destination,

have them contact the Camp office. Help us use your Camp to share the LORD’s agape with as

many people as possible this summer.

1 John 4:10 (New King James version) says, “In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He

loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.”

Coming to Serve Each year we are privileged to host and disciple students doing

summer missions. This year we have students coming from Georgia,

Missouri, New Mexico, Mississippi, Oklahoma, and Tennessee to serve the LORD. As they come, will you pray for them and the opportuni-ties they will have this summer? Their names are: Nicole, Kacee, Susan, Peter, James, Andrew, Brian, Christopher, and Riley.

Then He said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.” Matthew 4:19 (New King James version)

Matthew 4:19 has been used as the focus scripture for Camp Agape for many years. We are excited that Welcome Valley Baptist Church has taken this one step further. May 5th was their second annual fishing rodeo here at the Camp. At the best count, there were around 200 participants this year who all seemed to have a great time. Awards were given to the biggest fish caught in each age bracket. Door prizes and hotdogs were given out all day. However, the best part of all was that Welcome Valley was able to reach a number of non-church goers who indicated they would try to attend a worship service. Thank you, Welcome Valley, for helping us to continue the tradition at Camp Agape of being fishers of men.

Check the Financial Summary section of the Broadcaster for specifics on the churches who have donated money for Food Bank use. We appreciate those churches that choose to include the Food Bank in their monthly budget.

Food recei ve d in Mar. & Apr. came fr om:

MARCH: Cedar Springs, Delano, First Baptist Benton, Friendship, Greasy Creek, Hiwassee Union, Mountain Springs, Mountain View, Oak Grove, Shiloh, Smyrna, Wetmore, and Zion. Benton United Methodist Church, and The Bargain Barn also gave food or money.

APRIL: Benton Station, Cedar Springs, Delano, Friendship, Greasy Creek, Hiwassee Union, Mountain Springs, Mountain View, Oak Grove, Old Ocoee, Smyrna, Wetmore, and Zion. Benton United Methodist Church and The Bargain Barn also made contributions.

March James and a group of volunteers went to the Chattanooga Area Food Bank to buy supplies. There were ten (10) USDA items (translate that FREE food) and they increased our monthly allotment from four to SIX cases of each item. What a blessing!

April

Since our last reporting period, the Food Bank has received two separate VEShares Grants: one for $200 and the second one for $500. The money is being used to buy food for monthly distributions and we are very grateful to Volunteer Electric for this very beneficial program.

Pray that the families we serve will be nourished by the food they receive, but (more importantly) that they realize Christ is the Bread of Life. As always, thanks for your prayers and your support of this critical ministry in these difficult times.

PCBA Churc h News Friendship Baptist received the Annie Armstrong Easter offering on March 20. Volunteers painted selected cabins at Camp Agape on March 22 and 23. Rev. Scotty Martin preached at both services on March 27. One person was gloriously saved on April 10, five people joined the church on April 17. Two more joined the church and another one was saved on April 24. Volunteers enjoyed breakfast before beginning the TN GPS initiative of going door-to-door inviting all in the community to our Easter worship services. The church observed the Lord’s Supper the evening of April 21. On the evening of April 22 the church choir presented special Easter music followed by desserts. Friendship’s children enjoyed an Easter egg hunt. The winners of Friendship’s contest for the PCBA “Food Fight” received pie in their faces and a special dessert gift. Friendship collected 345 contest cans for the Food Bank! Easter worship was observed on April 24. Pastor Ross received a doctorate and his son, Cru Ross, received an associate’s degree from the from the same Bible college on April 26. (We add our congratulations to both Dr. Steve and Cru!!) The Lord’s Supper was observed on May 1. A graduation party was given honoring Keisha Patterson, Courtney Cass, and Jesse Lowe who are receiving high school diplomas. Amanda Fugate received a Master’s degree from UTK on May 12. Rev. Ryan Potts brought the morning sermon on May 15. That evening a baptismal service was held at Old Salem Baptist Church. Friendship will hold Vacation Bible School on June 12-17 at 6:30 pm nightly. We will have classes for all ages, including adults. Everyone is welcome to attend. Dr. Steve Ross is pastor.

Hiwassee Union Baptist Over spring break, some of the youth of Hiwassee Union donated two days at Camp Agape. They worked with youth from Friendship Baptist Church to help paint the inside and ceiling of Cedar Springs cabin; they also painted the floors of the dormitory rooms. In April, youth and adults helped to fill the bags at the Food Bank; we were amazed at the amount of work that goes into this ministry. What was even more amazing is that for so many years, this was done by only a few workers. What a blessing we received at our Homecoming Service! A number of folks shared their musical talent and it was amazing that each song went along with the message in a way that only God could have made happen. We are looking forward to Vacation Bible School June 21-24 from 6:00-8:30 pm. A mission team from Simpson Baptist Association out of Mississippi will be teaching again this year. Benny Thomas is pastor.

Welcome Valley Baptist had the Unity Quartet to sing on Sunday April 17. Welcome Valley also held their second annual Fishing Rodeo at Camp Agape on Saturday, May 7. Everyone enjoyed a fun day. David Bowers is pastor.

Zion Baptist held a Revival May 15-18 with Mike Sledge from Knoxville preaching. David Peters is pastor.

Our churches are encouraged to share information about important events. E-mail [email protected] or call the Baptist Center, 338-2749 with your church news, new staff members, Revivals, Homecomings, special services, ordinations, etc. We’ll include as much information as we can. News should be in our office by the 15th of each month.

Antioch Baptist called Melvin White as their new pastor on Sunday, April 10. We welcome Mel and his wife, Melvene, as they begin their service at Antioch.

Benton First Baptist held a Yard Sale and Car Wash on Friday and Saturday, April 8 & 9. All proceeds went to benefit their church mission trip to Pt. Pleasant, West VA this June. Happy Hearts will hold a “Happy Hearts” Bazaar June 4 from 8 am to 2 pm in the Activities Building of the church. Tables will be available for anyone, group or or-ganization to sell ‘specialties’ or ‘stuff’. The fee is 10% of sales with proceeds going to the CAB Building Fund. Call 338-2066, 715-3115 or 338-2882 to reserve one or more tables. Tables must be reserved by May 31st. Dr. Robbie Speights is pastor.

Boanerges Baptist held a Benefit Singing on Saturday, March 26 for their church mission trip to Memphis later this summer. They served a chicken dinner followed by and in-house singing. Charles Cheatham is pastor.

Cedar Springs Baptist took several Items to the Bradley County Baptist Association to help tornado victims. We took several cases of food, paper towels, soap and other needed items. We continue to pray for the tornado victims. God will help if we only ask. We also took clothing to People Helping People in Benton. Leroy Elliott is pastor.

Delano Baptist Men’s Ministry met for breakfast Feb. 12. The Women on Mission honored our widows and widowers in the church with a Valentine dinner after the AM service. Women on Mission provided potted flowers and a goodie bag for each honoree. Glenn Sheppard, evangelist, preached our Revival March 20-23. Lindsey Williams, missions associate from Camp Agape, spoke to our men’s & women’s groups on Missions Night in both February and March, telling about her December 2010 mission trip to work with children in Haiti. She challenged us to be more mission-minded in our everyday lives. Chris Stewart, camp director at Camp Agape, preached at both services April 10. A full house enjoyed hearing Delano’s children present their Easter musical, Son Rise on Sunday morning, Apr. 17. The adult choir sang the cantata, In Christ Alone, during the morning service on Easter Sunday. Members observed the ordinance of the Lord’s Supper during the Easter Sunday evening service. Some of Delano’s members helped with clean up at the Delano Cemetery the week of May 1-7 to get ready for the annual Decoration Day. We honored our graduates by presenting them with Bibles Sunday, May 15. Delano’s annual Homecoming was Sunday, May 22 with a covered-dish fellowship dinner following the morning service. Everyone is invited to a special Sunday evening showing May 29 at 6 pm of “Beyond Under”, a film based on the story of Gideon. The film was made by Chris & Penny Stewart’s children and friends in their home school group. Several of Delano’s and Beech Springs’ members star or are extras in the film. Church members are now working hard to get ready for Vacation Bible School June 5-10 from 6:00 to 8:30 pm. Dr. John Powers is pastor.
