On Monday the 3/4 cohort braved the cold and rain and had a wonderful me exploring the Cranbourne Botanic Gardens as part of their Science Unit – Living Things. The most impressive part of the visit from the children’s point of view was the indigenous garden and associated acvies that were on offer. The children were able to “taste test” some nave plants that are used for tradional cooking and learn about others used for tradional medicines. They were also able to create some art with hand prints and natural paint derived from plants grown in the indigenous garden. Also on Monday the Grade 5 students aended a “Say NO to Bullying Day” which was hosted by the Bunyip Rotary Club and Bendigo Bank. Our school joined with Longwarry, Garfield, Bunyip and St James Primary Schools where the day consisted of a variety of fun acvies including Yoga and Zumba. The consistent theme throughout the day was the importance of a no tolerance approach to unacceptable bullying behaviours and how to deal with such behaviours. The children were involved in problem solving discussions, role plays and presentaons and of course, the sausage sizzle lunch was a highlight! We waved goodbye to the Grade 6s as they went to Warratah Bay beach camp yesterday and by all reports everyone is having a ball! If you are on the PAFA Facebook page you will see some terrific photos of all the children having a surfing lesson. It may have been 2 degrees outside but Jacqui reports the water was a balmy 16 degrees!! On the same day the 1/2 cohort went on their excursion to the Melbourne Zoo and they also had a wonderful me. Thank you to the large number of parent volunteers who went along to support the teachers and the children. The children were all very excited that their teachers were forced to handle a snake or two in the environmental classroom! All in all it has been an excing week, despite the sudden onslaught of wintery weather! DISTRICT CROSS COUNTRY: Congratulaons to all students who parcipated in the district cross country event last Friday, especially to our four students who have qualified for the Division event on Monday – Cody H, Millie H, Jai H and Xavier L. Let’s examine the virtues required for empathy further:
Empathy = Good Manners + Friendliness + Courage +
Persistence/Resilience + Tolerance/Acceptance +
Compassion
Good manners is the habit of speaking and acting in a way
which gives people a feeling of being appreciated, valued and
respected. It is the habit of using the words and actions of
good manners with sincerity.
Friendliness is the habit of being interested in others, as well
as sharing your time, ideas, feelings, belongings and yourself
with others. It is the habit of saying and doing things to les-
son the labour and effort of others (helpfulness).
Courage is the habit of accepting your fear and nevertheless
making yourself say or do the things you know are right and
more important than your fear. It is that habit of sticking to
your values and resisting the tempta-
tion to abandon them.
Treat others as you would like them to treat you
