I was riding a PUV the other night, and seated at my left was a handsome college student whose loud message alert tone kept on interrupting my reverie. And so, curious as to whom he kept on sending SMS with, I sneaked a peek at what he was typing and saw his text header in caps “Mahal ko, (my love)”, ok so he was texting his girlfriend. And throughout the ride he was so consumed in his SMS correspondence with “Mahal ko” that I never saw him look up to observe another gorgeous young lady seated across us. He was so intimate with this “mahal ko” that their distance is bridged and the physical absence from each other seems to only add up to their intimacy, it deepens the relationship and gives meaning and colour to their young lives . The word intimate came from the Latin word “INTIMUS” meaning “inmost”. “Whoever remains in me and I in him will bear much fruit.” This Gospel passage reminds us of the very important element in our lives as Christians, that of remaining “in” Jesus. We must accept with our hearts the invitation of Jesus to “stay in him” to continue this amazing relationship with Him, to be intimate with Jesus and to let Jesus in our INMOST lives. Our God, most especially, wants us to be in an intimate relationship with Him. A relationship with God is by itself a blessing, a grace. It is actually enough just to be in a relationship with God, to acknowledge God as our creator and Lord and to pray for His blessings, however God wants us to allow Him to make this relationship more meaningful and more intimate. As Christians, our relationship with God became irreversibly intimate through Jesus. It is indeed wonderful and awesome to know that we can be more intimate with God, a foretaste of heaven in this world. To live a life that is pleasing to God in a wonderful and more meaningful way, a life that is truly Christian. However, there are challenges in living a Christian life. I have always admired my grandmother; she often would say about this life as “just passing”. This earth is but a temporary home and that life is but a test and with each good deed and with each triumph over temptations we create a wonderful paradise in heaven. We do live in a most challenging time; an era of materialism and consumerism. When we watch the television, listen to music, read the popular magazines, we are flooded with information about how to live a happy earthly life; where to go to be happy, what to consume to be happy, what to buy to be happy, what to have to be happy, what to become to be happy. And so we want to work more so we can have more so we can spend more and so we can be happy more. But is your pursuit for happiness making you more Christian? Is your pursuit for more leading you to be more intimate with God? Are you not sacrificing your heaven, for a short time here on earth? Are your branches growing and bearing fruit to glorify God? Be Intimate with Jesus... Pray Always! Fr. Nathaniel G. Gentizon

national Shrine of our lady of CandlesI invite all Christians, everywhere, at this very moment, to a renewed personal encounter with Jesus Christ

or at least an openness to letting Him encounter them.(EG 13)

For 13 years I served the Jaro Parish Youth Ministry as Service Coordinator. There are a lot of memories I treasure in my life and one of them is the Youth Encounter. It was in 2002, the year that I attended the Youth Encounter at Saint Vincent Ferrer Seminary. This four-day formation opened my heart and mind to the reality of being with the young. I faced my lifes battle, all by myself and God who strengthened and changed me into a new person. My journey is not that easy but then in the long run, I realized how narrow or stiff the road I traversed each day, God showed me that theres always a better and meaningful way .Last April 24-27, 2015, the Jaro Parish Youth Ministry experienced the Youth Encounter Formation at Asilo de Molo, Marillac Renewal House. the young participants experienced their relationship with God, their family, fellow youth and the community. There were 20 participants from different Barangays in Jaro. Being one of the facilitators, I saw myself when I was a participant years ago. Encountering them is not that easy. However, seeing them struggling from their past experiences and healed by the love of God made my heart happy and fulfilled.

katawohan.

Ang mga gintuton-an sang aton Ginoong Jesukristo nangin mapisan kag matutom nga manugbantala sang Maayong Balita tungod sang ila personal encounter with the Lord ilabi na gid pagkatapos nga Sia nabanhaw. Si Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI nagsiling: We can touch Christs heart and feel Him touch ours. Only in this personal relationship with Christ, only in this encounter with the Risen One do we really become Christians. And in this way, our reason opens, the whole of Christs wisdom opens and all the richness of the truth. Therefore, let us pray to the Lord to enlighten us, so that, in our world, He will grant us the encounter with His presence, and thus give us a lively faith, an open heart, and great charity for all, capable of renewing the world.

My youth encounter experiences made me remember that whatever scars or trials that may come along our way and God will always be there Who sends light amidst the darkness. Helping the young people in this formation is one of my passions because what I am today, I owe it to the Youth Encounter. I reached my commitment in life and most importantly I became a better person. To the group Special Elements may you find what youre looking for! Continue to inspire other youth, be the first one to love and keep on praying, remember always the Spirit of Youth Encounter where ever you go. We are your Manongs & Manangs are thankful for meeting all of you with different personalities. But then our goals for all of you to become a better person like us. We will always pray for you. Till we meet again! Fight a good Fight!

    Jn 15:1-8

    MAy 2015

    Sem . Fremar Silva

MOLO, Iloilo City, April 27, 2015 St. Joseph was always on the job even while asleep. This is true even as an image of the saint in deep slumber becomes increasingly popular among the faithful.According to Fr. Rey Zerrudo, parish priest of San Jose Obrero Parish in Molo, Iloilo City, and professor of Biblical Studies in St. Joseph Regional Seminary, the image of the Sleeping St. Joseph should be understood in the context of the Gospel, particularly, the episode of the young Josephs moment of crisis when he discovered that the Virgin Mary was already with child even before they started living together.

Well-deserved restSt. Joseph, an upright man, who never doubted Marys honor, agonized and, in the end, made the decision to put away Mary privately to spare her from public shame and execution because the punishment dictated at the time by the law for women found to be pregnant before marriage was death by stoning, the priest shared to CBCP News.At that moment St. Joseph did not yet know that the child in the womb of the Virgin Mary was the fruit, not of any man, but of the Holy Spirit. It was only after making a difficult but upright decision that St. Joseph slept soundly. That is what we see in the image of

the Sleeping St. Joseph, the Bible professor pointed out.Lest the faithful be misled as to the true message of the Sleeping St. Joseph, Zerrudo warned: St. Josephs sleep is the well-deserved rest of a hard-working carpenter. It is not the sleep of the indolent or of a Juan Tamad of local lore, who slept under a tree just to wait for the fruit to fall into his mouth.Practice of faithThe priest further explained that the rest of St. Joseph, although well-deserved, was not a time exclusively for himself. In his sleep, St. Joseph dreamt and it was in the dream that he learned of Gods plan of which he acted upon immediately.

Zerrudo explained that the effectiveness of St. Joseph, even while asleep, could be appreciated in Pope Francis practice of writing a little note and putting it underneath the image of St. Joseph.

Ever since Pope Francis referred to his devotion to a sleeping image of St. Joseph, where he inserts small pieces of paper and asks the Holy Patriarch to pray for a solution, on Jan. 16 in his address during the Encounter with Families at the Mall of Asia Arena, a devotion to the Sleeping St. Joseph has spread to many homes and offices among the Catholic faithful.

Not superstitionOf the practice of writing ones petition on strips of paper and placing them under a saints image or in a holy place, the priest allayed any fear of superstition and assured that it is a manifestation of authentic Catholic devotion. As an example, the Bible professor recalled that Pope St. John Paul II, in his pilgrimage to the Holy Land during the Great Jubilee, visited the Western Wall of the Temple of Jerusalem, popularly called the Wailing Wall, and inserted a small piece of paper in between the stones of the wall. In that piece of paper the Holy Pope wrote a prayer asking for forgiveness and for a renewed commitment for genuine brotherhood with the people of the covenant.Prayer can be made in many ways. One way is to write it on pieces of paper, the priest explained. (Fr. Mickey Cardenas/CBCP News)

Time to Unite! These are the times that try mens souls! How correct are these lines of Sir Patrick Henry. From home to church to educational

institutions to government offices to community, we need to observe protocol and use our senses positively if we want peace and unity.Since the home is the foundation of values, the elders must use everything they can do to make the children and all other underlings, to be subject to authority, provided there is love, justice, and equality. These must never be a show of favoritism and injustice. Prayer must be given a prominent place. The rosary, the Angelus, and all other devotions must be practiced by all the members. In church, proper way of dressing and behavior must be strictly observed. There are some of us who cannot avoid conversing with one another even while the Mass is going on. We must understand and must never forget that the church is the house of God, and the presence of the Blessed Sacrament is enough to remind us that we are with the Lord. Can we not hold our tongue and be discreet in our movements? Can we not listen to the priest and reflect on his words? We must be grateful that during the Mass, we are with Jesus, our Lord and Savior. Love,

    Pureza D. Lacuesta

Lalaine D. Pasquin respect, obedience, and decent dressing and behavior are not so difficult to offer to God.Presently, our educational institutions are trying hard to develop our students mentally and physically. From reading, to writing, to oral speech, to outdoor games, to academic and musical competitions, to sports, our children undergo trainings and experience. Our government, in its desire to improve us economically, is doing all means to pop up organizations which do their utmost to improve commerce and trade. Other institutions offer trainings for those who desire to go abroad. Each one of us is a part of a community. Let us be helpful and friendly with our neighbors, and try to create a relationship that can withstand the test of time.Today, many social problems are disturbing us. Drug addiction, heavy drinking, heavy smoking, careless driving, dishonesty and lawless competitions plus robbery and bag snatching are common social disturbances.Executions and jails are now common news. However, we must not despair. There is one solution that can make us brave in the face of danger and be calm in the time of trials. This is the time to turn to God be
