We remember them in our prayer, and we wish to include them in our Holy Communion. Members of our community bring the Blessed Sacrament to them to comfort them and to unite them with us in the Eucharist. We are not always aware of those who have this need. Please call the parish office at 952-227-4000 to let us know if you or a member of your family would like to have Holy Communion brought to them. That way we can schedule a time for our ministers to visit and bring the Sacrament.

Easter

Your answer to this question is very revealing.Do you think it is someone else’s job to invite, to welcome, to evangelize? What does scripture say about this? (Matthew 28:19 – “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations.” These words were not spoken only to a subgroup of all disciples, like priests and bishops and nuns and missionary brothers. They were spoken to all disciples.)Do you feel you’re unqualified or underqualified to talk about the Faith? How open have you been to Bible study classes and other adult faith formation opportunities at G.A. and other parishes? Are you shy about talking about your Faith? Maybe it is something you’ve not fully personalized, maybe it hasn’t affected how you see and act in the world yet. Is now perhaps the time to let go … and let God … through you?Do you find yourself too busy to invite and welcome? But not too busy for sports and entertainment? Have you tried once or twice, only to be turned down? Christ’s disciples have to expect far more rejections than acceptances. 1 out of 10 is pretty good! Also, go beyond your family. Try your neighbors, your work mates, people at the Chaska Community Center or at Coopers. When the Spirit prompts you. Do you go up to visitors at Mass and introduce yourself? How critical is it for you to get to Perkin’s or home for lunch right away after Mass, leaving it to others to welcome newcomers? Were you burned by some Bible-banging, condemning evangelical … and don’t want to shame others like they did you? Can you see yourself not shaming when sharing your excitement? Are you comfortable with the number and type of people who are attending G.A. at the moment? We’ve been able to address our parish’s historical challenges through growth in membership. Since parishioners move out of Carver County for jobs, continued parish health requires continued parishioner inviting/welcoming. Besides, inviting, welcoming and evangelizing are part of discipleship’s DNA. It’s been a requirement from the get-go.Do you just not care? If this were so, you more than likely would not be reading this homework exercise.

When was the last time you invited someone with you to church?

So, what was your answer to this earlIer homework? Please reflect again. And act! For your spiritually aerobic exercise...and for the sake of God's realm infecting the world, infecting Carver County. ~

Loyola Spirituality Center will host a one day retreat on Friday, June 24th from 9:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. at St. Patrick’s Church in Edina. We live in a world that urges us to admire and pursue whatever is faster, newer, bigger. Have you every wished for an extra day in your week, or an extra hour in your day? Have you ever thought you’d like to develop your prayer life, but couldn’t find the time? This retreat is not about time management. It’s about letting our souls catch up with our bodies. Jesus says “Follow Me” (Matthew 9:9). It’s not always easy to do. Our journey in life can be filled with obstacles and bumps in the road and can lead us to have doubt in God. Where is God when we are facing

challenges, hurts and disappointments? Where is He when there seems to be no one to turn to or when we are sinking into depression or becoming addicted to unhealthy habits? Where is He in times of loss and the in the daily trials of life? God is always there. God is constant. If we place our trust and faith in God we will come out stronger on the other side of these trials and disappointments. He promises “Come to Me, all who are weary and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28). How comforting to know that God loves us and wants us to be happy. He knows our dreams and desires. “Delight yourself in the LORD and He will give you the desires of your heart” (Psalm 37:4). Jesus is always standing ready with His hand outstretched waiting to take your hand in His and to walk with you on your journey of life. We can’t always see God because of our blindness so “We walk by faith, not by sight” (2 Corinthians 5:7).

How Spiritual Doubt Can Make Our Faith Stronger

by Francis Wagner, O.S.B.It was a child’s – and mother’s – nightmare. We were lost, and our mother was nowhere to be seen. I was six or seven years old at the time, my brother three years younger. Mom had taken us to the mall with her, and somehow we got separated. My brother and I anxiously looked for our mother from one end of the mall to the other while she searched for us. My brother was crying, and I was frightened, too. Where was she? Maybe she had left us there. What would happen to us? Those were the questions in my mind as we continued walking and searching. We were eventually reunited, to the relief of all. Our mother will be mortified to discover I’ve offered up this story for print, but in a very simple way it illustrates our journey of faith as Christians. I didn’t know where our mother was or how we would find her, but deep down I believed that she would never leave until we found one another. So we continued searching. However, I was full of doubt.Working your way through: “We walk by faith, not by sight,” writes St. Paul (2 Cor. 5:7). “For now we see in a mirror, darkly; but then face to face: (11 Cor. 13:12). Ultimately, it is God’s face we seek, and it is a journey laden with doubt. Is there a God? Why did this happen? What is going to happen to me? Why am I here? What is God’s plan for me? Am I headed in the right direction? Each of us has asked these and similar questions. They transcend the circumstances giving rise to them and strike at the very core of our being. Yet, posing them sometimes prompts feelings of guilt. By asking such things – or by doubting – we can be tempted to feel that we have no faith at all. However, “faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things unseen,” promises the Letter to the Hebrews (11:1). It means believing without fully knowing or understanding. It means questioning while continuing to search, just like two lost children looking for their mother in a crowded mall.
