Holy Family Day School: If you are interested in having your student attend

Holy Family Day School, please visit our website at www.holyfamilydayschool.org for more information. Then give us a call at 481-1180 to schedule a tour and meet our wonderful teachers! The Day School accepts students ages 2 ½ through Kindergarten and has a structured After School program for Public School students from John B. Dey, Trantwood and Alanton Elementary schools.

Our thematic based learning program is developmentally age appropriate. Each classroom concentrates on the same broad topic, but the activites and learning approaches vary according to age. With our excellent teacher/student ratios, each child is able to receive individualized attention so their abilities may be more easily recognized.

Box Tops for Education:During the summer months, please continue to collect Box Tops for Education! The box will remain in the welcome office during the summer months and they really do add up quickly! The school has earned almost $1,000.00 since last summer.

Ministry Fair Weekend: The Day School welcomes all new and returning Guest Readers, Afterschool Teens, and Teacher/Classroom Assistants! Thank you for continuing to share your love of education with our community!

MAY – THE MONTH OF MARYThe month of May is the month which the piety

of the faithful has especially dedicated to Our Blessed Lady, and it is the occasion for a moving tribute of faith and love which Catholics in every part of the world pay to the Queen of Heaven.

The Rosary is one of the most excellent prayers to the Mother of God. Thus, “the Roman Pontiffs have repeatedly exhorted the faithful to the frequent recitation of this biblically inspired prayer which is centered on contemplation of the salvific events of Christ’s life, and their close association with the Virgin Mother.”

Please join us in the Rosary every Wednesday evening at 6:30 p.m. in the Chapel. The Rosary is also recited every morning after daily Mass. On Friday mornings, the Patriotic Rosary is recited and we pray for all the men and women in the military.

The Rosary is on EWTN at 7:30 and 11:30 a.m. and 3:30 and 9:30 p.m. It is also available in audio form at http://www.scripturalrosary.org/BeginningPrayers.html.

This May, reconnect with a childhood tradition or start a new one with devotion to the Blessed Mother through the most Holy Rosary.

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS NEWSCouncil 10804

FANTASTIC!!Congratulations to Charlie Davis, Jr., and his son, Charles Davis III for completing their Third Degree as Knights of Columbus two weeks ago. It is always extra special to have a father and son join our Order together!

IT’S FAIRDuring our 24-year existence, our Council has always

enthusiastically supported the Holy Family Fair. This year’s Fair Committee Chair, Tony Mushik, needs more volunteers to help in the Food Tent, Grandma’s Attic, Ticket Sales, and Children’s Games, to name a few. We urge all brother Knights to please check your family schedules and see if it is possible to volunteer some time for the Fair. Past experience has shown that teenagers have fun running the Children’s Games and do a great job.

If you and/or your family can help, please contact [email protected].

RESCHEDULE Since the Church Fair occurs in early June, Council 10804’s regular monthly business meeting will be moved to Thursday, June 9. The Rosary will be at 7:00 p.m. (all parishioners invited to participate) and the business meeting (members only) will begin at 7:30 p.m.

We invite all of the men in our parish to join our Council and help us to make a difference!

Grand Knight Charles Clarkson Chaplain Fr. Gaudy Pugat

Membership Tom Curran (647-0529).

HOLY FAMILY FAIR NEWS:Wow! It’s finally here. Our Parish works very hard to have a

successful Fair, but we all still have plenty of time to enjoy the Fair with each other, our family, and our friends.

This is the last weekend for volunteer sign-ups. If you’ve already signed up – THANK YOU! If not, please take another look and help us if you can.

If you haven’t done so yet, please pick up your raffle tickets. You can turn them in at the sign-up table, the Church office, to any Fair Committee member, and when the Fair begins – the Beer Tent.

We’re putting the final touches in at Grandma’s Attic this week. If you can stop by, John & Pat would appreciate your help. This year in addition to the Fair hours, Grandma’s Attic will open at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, June 3. John & Pat (757-463-2263).

The Fair begins on Thursday at 6:00 p.m. There are many small things that need to be done (bring out the stoves, set up trash cans and tables, set up games, etc.) on Thursday afternoon. If you are available, we can use a handful of people at 2:00 p.m.

It’s time for a Great Time! THANK YOU! [email protected].

NATIONAL VOCATIONS AWARENESS: “The Gospel preached by me is not of human origin.” In what way are you called to help spread the Gospel? Call Father Michael Boehling at 804-359-5661 or e-mail at [email protected].

******************************************MUSIC NOTES

Music Ministry Liturgy Schedule:Parish Choir: 11:00 a.m. Sunday, May 29Ringers (Bells): 11:00 a.m. May 29

Music Ministry Parish Fair Schedule:Children’s Choir on Stage: Thursday, June 2Parish Choir and Friends: Friday, June 3

Sing for Music Ministry!Keep the music going in your life! Ringing bells is fun; it’s like a game. You’re only responsible for a couple of notes! If you sing in a school choir, sing in your church choir and expand your skills. If you can’t get choir or band into your school schedule, sing, ring, or play at church. Adults will find music ministry to be energizing, not a draining activity after work. You’ll leave rehearsal feeling better than you did when you arrived – so I’m told by choir members! That’s also documented by studies of the effects music has on the brain. In all rehearsals, there is a faith component of prayer and reflection on the words we sing, and as we gather regularly, a camaraderie develops among members. Instrumentalists and singers school age and adult are welcome! Contact Sylvia Chapa, Director of Music Ministries, after any Mass (phone 757-481-5702, ext. 116, or email [email protected]) to join in the fun of Music Ministry at Holy Family.

CHURCH OF THE HOLY FAMILY VIRGINIA BEACH, VIRGINIA

ANNUAL CALENDAR INPUTS DUE: The Servant Leadership Team suggested we modify our planning efforts for building use to get a broader look at upcoming schedules. The target is to better coordinate event and space use. Past attempts at scheduling on a quarterly basis have not been as successful as we hoped. Our focus will shift to planning Church events for an entire year, which will run from July 2016 through June 2017. If you or your group desire to use Church spaces during this period, and have not already done so, please submit your needs to Carla, the Parish Secretary, by Monday, June 13, 2016. This applies to everyone who meets in our building. Thank you.

PRAYERS FOR OUR COUNTRY AND THE MILITARY: Every Friday, we say the Patriotic Rosary after morning Mass. Everyone is welcome.

If you have a family member in the military and would like us to pray for them by name, please email Mary Sorrentino at [email protected] with their name, and branch of service. Please remember that we still have military members in harm’s way and keep them in your daily prayers.

CELEBRATION: Fr. Joe Slattery will be celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Ordination to the Priesthood at Holy Family at Mass on Saturday, June 18, followed by a Reception. If you plan to attend the Reception, please bring a finger food to share. Fr. Joe will also celebrate Mass at 8:15 and 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, June 19.

THANK YOU:The family of Lorraine Ziemba thanks the Parishioners of Holy Family for the love, comfort, and support provided. We are also grateful to the Funeral Food Committee for the wonderful hospitality following her funeral Mass.

Love, The Ziemba Family

FOOD PANTRY UPDATE We served our neighbors this weekend. Please help us restock our Food Pantry. We need: Peanut Butter, Jelly, Canned Fruit, Canned Meat, and Boxed Mashed Potatoes.

“CREATION CARE CORNER”For those of you who have been reading my articles, at least for the past 2 years, you may recall one on the topic of “E-15.” E-15 is a blend of vehicle gasoline and it means that the gasoline we pump has 15% ethanol in it instead of the 10% now required by the government. For cars older than 2012 that blend can especially be very damaging, even though the EPA has approved it as safe. AAA has issued a warning regarding the use of this gasoline, which soon will be available in our local market. The damage will particularly affect the fuel system causing corrosion. The contents also will destroy gaskets. At this point, there are 10 major automobile companies who refuse to honor the repair of the damage. Others maintain that the warranty would be voided. It is believed that this blend with 15% ethanol, which is produced from corn, is an effort to increase the production of corn. Drivers will be attracted to fill up with E-15 because it is less expensive. However, it is 3 octanes lower than regular gasoline, so the car will not get as much mileage. For further information, check http://www.youtube.com/embed/ceW9Nc1hVHU?feature=playerdetailpage. Admittedly, this is a lengthy address, but it will be worth your time to view the brief video on this topic. “A key area where you are called to make a contribution is in showing concern for the environment. This is not only because this country, more than many others, is likely to be seriously affected by climate change. You are called to care for creation not only as responsible citizens, but also as followers of Christ!” Pope Francis
