Prelude Concerto in A Minor Vivaldi-Bach Chiming of the Hour Welcome

Introit Dunlap Holy, holy, holy, Lord, God almighty, Heav'n and earth are full of thy glory; Glory be to thee, Most High. Amen

*Call to Worship

O LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory above the heavens. When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him, and the son of man that you care for him? Yet you have made him a little lower than the heavenly beings and crowned him with glory and honor. O LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!

*Hymn 451 Open My Eyes That I May See

*Call to Confession

*Prayer of Confession

O Lord, we are your people, yet we choose to remain separated from you. We shun your wisdom and your love. In our separation we harm your world, each other, and most tragically ourselves. Help us to see the ways in which we are not attentive to you. Help us to see the wisdom of your ways and to understand the grace you so freely offer. By your loving mercy, help us to live in your light and abide in your ways, for the sake of Jesus Christ our Savior.

(time for silent confession) And let God’s people say: Amen.

*Assurance of Pardon

*Affirmation of Faith (adapted by members of FPC)

We believe in God, the Father Almighty, and in Jesus Christ, His Son, our Lord, and in the Holy Spirit. We seek to know God's will, to walk in God's ways, and to proclaim the Gospel to all people, by our lives as well as by our words. We work and pray for the progress of knowledge, the promotion of justice, the reign of peace, and the realization of human unity in our time. And we look with faith for the triumph of righteousness in our community and in our world. Amen.

Call to Prayer (hymn 470)

There is a longing in our hearts, O Lord, for you to reveal yourself to us. There is a longing in our hearts for love we only find in you, our God.

Prayers of the People - with The Lord’s Prayer (ecumenical version) Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and forever. Amen.

WORSHIP NOTES

Today is Trinity Sunday, the first Sunday after

Pentecost. We celebrate the mystery of the Triune

God as we progress into what is known as

“ordinary time” on the liturgical calendar.

The lectionary readings for today are Proverbs

8:1-4, 22-31; Psalm 8; Romans 5:1-5; and John

16:12-15. Today’s sermon focuses mainly on the

text from Proverbs and John. With this material

there is some tendency to focus on the formulas

for obtaining wisdom and understanding the

Trinity. Yet, the more rich understanding comes

from accepting the gifts of wisdom and the

knowledge of the relationship we have with all

that God represents.

We welcome Jeff Paris as our guest preacher

this morning. Jeff is a Commissioned Lay Pastor

with the Presbytery and member of Bethel

Presbyterian Church in Kingston. Sharon sends

her greetings from North Carolina. She returns

tomorrow from leading a CREDO conference.

The word “bequeath” comes from an Old English word that means

“to say, speak to, exhort.” Making a bequest to the church in your

will is a simple, effective way to speak into the future of your faith

community, and encourage growth for the long term.
