May is Melanoma Awareness Month! With summer coming up, it’s important to start thinking about sun safety! Melanoma is the deadliest form of skin cancer and, in most cases, is related to UV-induced damage. Tanning beds and the sun are sources of UV. Severe sunburns, especially at a young age, have also been linked to melanoma.

When caught early, melanoma is highly curable. Follow these tips to check your skin regularly:

PRACTICING SUN SAFETY!

Wear sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30.

Wear protective clothing such as a hat and

sunglasses.

Look for shade mid-day when the sun’s rays are

the most intense.

Don’t use tanning beds.

Protect children’s skin. Bad sunburns in

childhood double their chances for melanoma

later in life.
