Jim Holt Delivers Another Great Memphis in May! Convention Center Renovations Move Forward! Andy Odle Is New “Bed Tax Cop!”
This year’s lineup had something for everyone. All those I spoke with had a great time.
Congratulations to Jim Holt and the Memphis in May team for a success-ful event!
As I’m writing, the BBQ Festival is setting up and it looks like the park is filled with the teams competing for the championship.
After studying the renovation plans as proposed by Scott Fleming Archi-tects, the Cook Convention Center

Board of Directors have ask for a few changes to be made to the design. The proposed changes are positive and will make for a more functional center.
After the design changes are completed, the next step will be to get city approval. Scott Fleming and Kevin Kane will make that presentation. After the city approves the plans, the Convention Center Board will oversee the renovation process.
The city has a new bed tax cop. The MCVB has recently hired a person to audit hotel bed tax collection for the city and county clerk office. His name is Andy Odle, and chances are if you’re a hotel GM, then you will be seeing Andy sometime in the near future.
Andy worked with us at the Holiday Inn Downtown for several years as our Con-troller. He did an ex-cellent job and under-stands the
hotel business. He has been on the MMHLA Golf committee for a couple years and was responsible for nego-tiating a deal for us to trade rooms for use of North Creek golf course for our annual MMHLA golf tournament.
Many cities have auditors that do bed tax auditing, and I think it is good for us to have someone who has previ-ously worked in the industry.
I guess I need to look for a new ringer for my golf team now that Andy works for Kevin.
Well, that is it for this month. See you around town and send me your over flow.
