Spring may have sprung, but today as I type this I think it has sprung a leak!!! What a rainy day! (in case you don’t read this right away, it is Friday of Cruizers Weekend) Things have been rolling along nice at the Club. The new menu seems to be popular and Rick’s Pub Fare has been well received. I am thankful for all of the feedback I received from members (good, bad, or indifferent- I need to hear it!). Speaking of feedback from members, I am guessing it is time again to address a topic that I have covered in the Marlin Bill a few times over the years. The Board of Directors and the Officers all work very hard for the good of the club. There are many hours put in behind the scenes and often times there is little reward for the effort. If you see a Board Member or Offi- cer enjoying dinner or drinks with their family or friends at the club, that is not the time to ini- tiate a long discussion about club business. We all welcome your input, but Happy Hour is not the best venue to discuss business. Set up a time to chat, or better yet put your concern in writing (email is fine) and PROVIDE YOUR CONTACT INFORMATION so the issue can be discussed in the proper setting. The first tournament of the year is one week away. Not many boats have been fishing yet, so I can’t tell you how good the fishing is going to be, but I am excited to get out for the Annual Memorial Day Bluefish Tourney. This tournament benefits a great cause (The Catherine and Charles Kratz memorial Foundation and Scholarship Fund) and it is always a good time! I hope to see you at sign up and at the scales! Speaking of the scales, for the first time in several years the Club has an Official Weigh Mas- ter for all tournaments. The tournament directors will still be looking for some help staffing the scales, but Ed Dorang will be in charge. I have known Ed for several years. He is a heck of a nice guy and he is very detail oriented. I look forward to working with him in the Blue- fish tourney next week! The season opening party and nautical flea market were both tremendously successful. I had a great time at both of the events, and would like to thank Tami and Mark Radcliffe as well as the Auxiliary for all of their hard work. It was great seeing everybody at the club throughout the day and evening! With the Mid Atlantic season upon us the international reports are starting to simmer down a little bit in quantity, but the quality is still spectacular. The biggest news I have this month is Continued on next page.

A Message from the President - Hello again everybody. Spring may have sprung, but today as I type this I think it has sprung
a leak!!! What a rainy day! (in case you don’t read this right away, it is Friday of Cruizers
Weekend)
Things have been rolling along nice at the Club. The new menu seems to be popular and
Rick’s Pub Fare has been well received. I am thankful for all of the feedback I received from
members (good, bad, or indifferent- I need to hear it!).
Speaking of feedback from members, I am guessing it is time again to address a topic that I
have covered in the Marlin Bill a few times over the years. The Board of Directors and the
Officers all work very hard for the good of the club. There are many hours put in behind the
scenes and often times there is little reward for the effort. If you see a Board Member or Offi-
cer enjoying dinner or drinks with their family or friends at the club, that is not the time to ini-
tiate a long discussion about club business. We all welcome your input, but Happy Hour is
not the best venue to discuss business. Set up a time to chat, or better yet put your concern in
writing (email is fine) and PROVIDE YOUR CONTACT INFORMATION so the issue can
be discussed in the proper setting.
The first tournament of the year is one week away. Not many boats have been fishing yet, so I
can’t tell you how good the fishing is going to be, but I am excited to get out for the Annual
Memorial Day Bluefish Tourney. This tournament benefits a great cause (The Catherine and

hope to see you at sign up and at the scales!

the scales, but Ed Dorang will be in charge. I have known Ed for several years. He is a heck
of a nice guy and he is very detail oriented. I look forward to working with him in the Blue-

little bit in quantity, but the quality is still spectacular. The biggest news I have this month is

A Message from the President—(continued) that the Crew of the Big Oh with owner Gray Ingram and Capt. Ronnie Fields have recently captured
their 1,000th blue marlin as a team with the current boat. This was accomplished in a 7 year period.
By my math over 500 of the fish have come in the past 2 years, a majority coming from Cape Verde. I
have met Gray several times over the years and have had the pleasure of fishing next to Ronnie in OC,
Palm Beach and Mexico. Congratulations guys! That is some awesome fishing. Another fishery that
is blue marlin oriented and impressive in its own right is the Sea Mount/FAD fishing in Costa Rica.
Capt Howard and his side kick Fluffy of the Tuna Bite recently did a two day trip to the Sea Mount
and raised 28 blues. I think they had bites out of 18 and caught 11. Not too shabby boys!!!
In closing this month I have to report on the untimely passing of Charlie Grinath. I have known Char-
lie for quite a while and he was great guy. He had a passion for fishing and lived life to the fullest.
Please join me in offering condolences to his wife Becky and the rest of his family and friends.
Until next time,
Franky
PS- please share fishing stories or some OC fishing memories with us and we will put them in future
