At least, my earliest recollection of learning to pray was from my maternal grandmother who taught me that old bedtime prayer, “Now, I lay me down to sleep.” You probably know the rest, or some variation. In teaching me that prayer, she also taught me to pray for those I care about, naming them and asking God’s blessings to be upon them. Of course, as I grew older, my prayers changed, but the basic framework had been established. Most notably, that notion of praying specifically for those I care about. Over the course of the past few weeks, I have received numerous cards (18 in a single day!), phone calls, visits, and general words of encouragement from family and friends. This includes my church family, of course. Knowing that someone cares enough to take time to mention my name in their prayer really means more than words can truly convey. I want to express my sincerest thanks to all of you as the family of God for your continued support, encouragement, love, and prayers during this time. To know my name has been uttered to the masterful creator of all things is a tremendous gift and continues to provide encouragement each day. My last preschool chapel before my hospital stint was about the four friends who cut a hole in the roof of the house Jesus was in so their friend could receive healing. I find it interesting that, given my recent situation, it’s those prayers offered by those close to me that cut the hole through discouragement and frustration to make room for the healing Jesus offers. I hope you know how much it means to have your continued support. May God continue to bless us all with the knowledge of His continued love and presence, and help us remember that we have the privilege to experience His love through those relationships with one another. — Trent Sessoms a monthly newsletter of a monthly newsletter of a monthly newsletter of a monthly newsletter of Knightdale Baptist Church Knightdale Baptist Church Knightdale Baptist Church Knightdale Baptist Church P1 A Word of Thanks P2 May Anniversaries and Birthdays P2 Baptist Knights P2 Children’s Time Schedule for May P2 Preschool Graduation P3 May Calendar P4 Children’s Worship Schedules for May P4 Love Connection P4 Ushers for May P4 List of Deacons P5 Youth News P5 Baby Shower Invitation P5 Birthday Celebration P6 Worship Ministry Opportunities P6 Preschool Enrollment P6 Budget Report P7 Backpack Buddies P7 Operation Christmas Child P7 Wednesday Night Fellowship Meal P8 Chicken BBQ Fundraiser P8 Staff Volume 11, Issue 5 2014

A Word of Thanks

Youth News
YOUTH EVENTS FOR MAY Sunday, May 11 – Mother’s Day – Youth cancelled for this evening. Spend time with mom. It’s probably the gift she wants more than anything. Sunday, May 18 at 2:00 PM – Sunny Sky’s Ice Cream – The sky is the limit with this ice cream. The youth are sponsoring an ice cream outing for everyone. Grab some lunch, meet back at the church and we will all head down to quaint Angier where you can find a unique shop that sells any flavor you desire. They will even mix up a new flavor if you don’t see what you like. Just don’t order the Cold Sweat. www.sunniskys.com/ Wednesday, May 21 at 6:30 PM – Spring Cleaning – Spring is here and so is the need to tidy up. If there are any specific needs either at the church or elsewhere, please let Pastor Joe know. The youth cleaned the corner storage room in the FLC last year and it was a great success. We look forward to helping again. Sunday, May 25 at 6:00 PM – Mission Team Fundraiser Blitz – The youth will put up banners,
pass out flyers, and flood social media with advertisements for the BBQ fundraiser on May 30th. RESURRECTION REFLECTION I believe a dead man came back alive. Oh, and that man was God in the flesh. These are statements we commonly accept as Christians. The youth recently watched The Passion of the Christ and it seemed to bring the reality of Jesus’ death and resurrection to the forefront of our attention. Well, that and Easter. I often encourage the youth to share what their faith means with their peers. It has come to my attention just how radical this really is. The fact of the resurrection stands counter to logic. People might just think you’re crazy. Think about what we claim to believe: God became a helpless baby, lived a perfect life for 33 years, suffered hell (separation from God) and died in the place of certain others, came back to life, then flew into the clouds like some fictional superhero. We really profess to believe all that (and much, much more). Those sound like things that should wind you up in a padded cell with a straight jacket on. Seriously! If it weren’t for two
things, we might all just be put there. First, there was ample evidence provided for the truth of Jesus’ resurrection (like his eating fish). These claims could have easily been debunked when they were first made. But, they weren’t because amazingly, they were true! Second, the work of the Holy Spirit testifies to a multitude of people that these things are fact. God, Himself, gives us confidence that the evidences are compelling and that the spiritual realities of the resurrection are as real as the paper you are holding (perhaps even more so). Praise God that He provides this assurance for us. He is worthy of our crazy love. Otherwise, we might just be plain crazy. Everyone who acknowledges me publicly here on earth, I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven. But everyone who denies me here on earth, I will also deny before my Father in heaven.
