Notes from the NurseNotes from the NurseNotes from the
NurseNotes from the Nurse
Dear Parents,
We have arrived at the point in the year when we begin to make
plans for the upcoming academic year. We will soon begin the
process of preparing class rosters for next year. Time and effort
are invested so that classes meet the instructional needs of
chil-dren. If you feel that your child has a special need or
circumstance that you would like for us to consider, please put
your request in writing and forward it to Boyd Hainsworth through
delivery to the front office or through email to
[email protected]. Please include PARENT REQUEST in the subject
line of an email. Mr. Hainsworth will send a reply email to your
request indicating that it was received. Include in the letter the
grade your child will be entering and the characteristics/needs
that your child has that would require consideration.
Please do not include a specific teachers name, areas of
certifi-cation, physical characteristics, etc. Request for a
specific teacher will not be considered. The purpose of our request
for the letter is to share things that we need to consider about
your child. All letters must be received by Friday, May 15, 2015.
Please understand that letters from prior years are not considered.
Letters must be submitted annually.

Medication Pick-up from the Health Room Thank you for allowing
me to help with meeting your child's health needs this year at
school.
The end of the year is almost here and we are making
preparations for closing of the health room. If your child has
medication here at school, a parent or guardian will need to pick
up the medication before the end of the school year. For safety
reasons, we do not send medi-cation home with students and
medications cannot be stored over the summer. Any medications
remaining will have to be disposed of according to DHEC
regula-tions. Please stop by the health room to pick up your
child's medication before the last day of school. If you need to
make special arrangements, please call Nurse Harrington at
476-4609. Parents, if your student will need prescription medicine
to be given at school or if they have a chronic medical condition ,
an Individual Health Plan and/or medication form for the 2015-2016
school year will be mailed home. These will be mailed to you at the
beginning of summer so that you can have them reviewed and signed
by your medical doctor prior to school starting in August. This is
extremely important! It helps us start the year off being able to
fully take care of your child's medical needs at school. This is
also helpful to your doctor as they get an overload of medication
permission forms and IHP ap-proval forms to sign at the beginning
of the school year!
Reading CelebrationReading CelebrationReading CelebrationReading
Celebration
A total of 128 students were invited to attend a reading
celebration in the library on the morning of May 12. This was to
celebrate their participation in the schools annual SC Book Award
Challenge. Students were treated to breakfast, given award
certificates, and
earned gift certificates to shop the May book fair. Currently in
its 5th year, this popular program encourages reading across genres
by promoting the SC Book Award nominees
chosen each year by the South Carolina Association of School
Librarians. Tech-nology and critical thinking are incorporated into
the program by asking students to reflect on the nominees through
completing Google Form book reviews. According to library media
specialist, Sharon Matney, Approximately 2,800 book reviews were
submitted this year alone! Thats a phenomenal amount of reading and
writing. Its exciting to see the program contin-ue to grow in
popularity each year. To learn more about the book award nominees,
visit http://www.scasl.net/book-awards.
