new options created by the Maxi-Cosi styling team, as well as a Launch

Edition of the Stella stroller, developed in collaboration with acclaimed

designer Edward van Vliet.

Amsterdam designer Edward van Vliet, known for his industrial and interior design work, created the patterns and designs for the Stella stroller and a range of other Stella pattern products that will be launched alongside it.

The geometric Stella pattern is a repeating

motif of triangles, circles and intersecting

lines forming star-shaped bursts of white

on navy. Complementing it is a tessellating

wave-form pattern on a duck-egg blue

background, which offsets the bolder

main design.

When your customer has a baby in the stroller and a toddler by their side, the Maxi-Cosi Board makes walking easier and safer. It can be used in combination with our Mura Plus and Stella strollers. Clicking the Maxi-Cosi Board on the integrated connection points on the stroller frame is quick and easy. For Mura (Plus) models older than collection 2014, adapters are included.


Original Bag

The complete Maxi-Cosi Orginal Bag can be used as a booster seat, but it is also a nursery bag. Useful for parents when visiting places where a highchair may not be available. Our historyIt’s 1984. Babies are being transported in cars in unrestrained carrycots. Toddlers are ferried about in chairs hung over a car’s back seat.

This was when Maxi-Cosi launched Europe’s first child car seat, the Maxi-Cosi Standard – and we’ve been driving car seat standards ever since. Innovation and comfort Our many patents are proof of the technological innovations we’ve produced since we launched our first baby car seat all those years ago.

Our safety innovations include Pebble belt hooks and our side impact protection system – things parents might not even notice, but which work together in every one of our car seats to provide the best protection and comfort for children.

Comfort is also very important to us. So, for example, the head support in our Pebble can be easily adjusted to a baby’s needs.

how to select the right car seat?For every situation Maxi-Cosi offers the right car seat. The best car seat is the one that fits the child,

fits the car(s) and is easy to install and to use. Here are some useful tips and recommendations.

1) What is the stature of the child?

There are two different regulations for car seats: i-Size (R129) and ECE R44/04. i-Size uses the length of a child to classify car seats while ECE R44/04 uses weight to divide car seats into groups. For a good fit in the car seat, the height or weight of the child is essential. All of our car seats are categorized as follows:

2) Which type of installation does the car allow?

Car seats for infants can be attached using ISOFIX fittings or seat belts. Whichever method is used, it’s absolutely crucial to install the car seat correctly.

ISOFIX provides the safest, easiest and quickest solution for installing a child car seat correctly. Find out more about ISOFIX on p.34

Car seat belt installation offers flexibility, but parents should be extra cautious to make sure the car seat is installed correctly.

3) When is the best time to place the child in the next category of car seats?

Many parents upsize their children too soon to a larger car seat. Each car seat however is tailored to the exact characteristics (length, weight and age) of the child, offering the highest level of safety and comfort.

Maxi-Cosi recommends to keep the baby in a rearward-facing baby car seat for as long as possible. Switch to a toddler seat only when the top of the baby’s ears extend past the top of the baby seat. A toddler only needs to switch to a Group 2/3 car seat when the upper belt position is lower than his shoulder position.

why rear-facing travel is saferIn an accident, a rear-facing car seat reduces impact on a baby’s vulnerable head and neck. That’s why

it’s safer for parents to keep using a rear-facing seat - even when a child outgrows his first baby car seat.

Why is rear-facing travel safer for babies and toddlers?Babies’ heads are proportionally much larger and heavier than the rest of their bodies. The bones and muscles in the neck have not yet developed enough to support the relatively heavy head.

If a baby travels in a forward-facing car seat and there is a frontal collision, his head can be thrown forwards. This puts stress on his head and neck, potentially causing serious injury.

But a rear-facing car seat protects a child’s head and neck by spreading the forces over the whole back.

What are the rules on rear-facing travel?The introduction of i-Size (R129) car seat safety legislation in July 2013 means that babies and toddlers must travel in rear-facing car seats until they are at least 15 months old. By then their neck bones and muscles are more developed.

Although the biggest safety gains have been made by extending the period of rear-facing travel to 15 months, it’s actually safest for children to travel in a rear-facing car seat until they are 4 years old.

maxi-cosi safety ranking explanationMaxi-Cosi has developed a safety ranking for all its car seats in order to provide a clear overview of the

safety performance. All car seats are divided into three groups, going from excellent safety to good safety.

Results obtained through crash tests conducted by an external and independent organization, ADAC, combined with the regulation that the car seat complies with and installation type it uses, form the base for the car seat ranking.

i-Size (R129) versus R44i-Size (R129) is a new car seat regulation for increased safety. It can be claimed that car seats that comply with the i-Size standard are far safer, since i-Size provides:• better head and neck protection• better side-impact protection• minimal the chance of premature upsizing to forward-facing

travel and reduces the chance of incorrect installation. R44/04 car seats are safe and remain legal for a yet undefined period. The new i-Size compliant car seats provide enhanced safety thanks to new safety technologies and represent the future of the child seat safety legislation.

ISOFIX versus car seat belt installationISOFIX is an international standardized fitting system which provides the safest, easiest and quickest way to install a child car seat. Child car seats that use car seat belts have a higher risk of incorrect installation and use, while with ISOFIX the risk of incorrect installation is minimized.

ISOFIX is an international standardised fitting system, which provides the safest, easiest and quickest way to install a child car seat correctly without the need of vehicle seat belts. The name ISOFIX stands for ISO (International Standardisation Organization) plus FIX (Fixation).

How does ISOFIX work?When installing a car seat into the car using the ISOFIX fitting points, the ISOFIX anchorage of the child seat creates a rigid connection between the child seat and the car chassis.

ISOFIX car seats use two standard anchor points located at the base of the seat, plus an anti-tipping forward device: either a support leg or top tether.

Support legThe support leg is a very commonly used anti-tipping device. It is a so called semi-universal system, which means that, for the correct fit, the Maxi-Cosi car fitting list should be consulted. The support leg is positioned at the floor of the car between the back seat and the front seat, or between the front seat and dashboard.

Top tetherTop tether is a universal system, which means that the car seat should fit all cars with a top tether anchor point. The top tether can be located at different places in the back of the car: at the back of the rear seat, at the bottom of the trunk or on the ceiling. In most new cars this anchor point is highlighted with the top tether logo (displaying an anchor).

While child car seats using regular seat belts are regularly installed and used incorrectly, with ISOFIX the risk of incorrect installation is very small. ISOFIX offers high safety for children and ease of use to parents.

By July 9th 2013 all car seats sold within the EU had to comply with the European Union’s safety regulation ECE R44/04; it defines the minimum performance requirements for child car seats. Since the implementation of i-Size (R129) into the European legislation, car seats can comply with one of both legislations, knowing that i-Size (R129) is the highest and latest safety standard.

Other crash test scoresBesides our safety ranking based on installation and legislation, consumers can also compare products based on external crash test scores. For example the ADAC ratings that regularly get communicated via consumer organizations and automobile clubs. The ADAC crash test score is obtained by two main tests: dynamic safety and ease of use. The dynamic rating consists of a frontal impact and side-impact crash test. A dummy in the car seat with advanced sensors measures the forces that impact its body. ADAC then calculates the final score based on these measurements.

The ease of use test consists of 5 steps going from placing the product in the car to tightening the belts of the dummy inside. In all these steps, the engineers of ADAC pay special attention to the risk of misuse and the risk of installing the car seat incorrectly. R129 is the name of a new EU safety standard which aims to increase the safety

of children in cars by bringing the child car seats safety performance to a new,

higher level. R129 represents the future of car seat safety legislation but runs

side-by-side with ECE R44/04 in the coming years.

The development of the R129 legislation is divided into three different phases, incorporating car seats that are installed by ISOFIX or the car seat belt, and appropriate for children from birth, up to 135/150 cm tall. The distinct phases of legislation development are visualized in the table below.

i-Size is the name of the first phase of the new R129 legislation, detailing enhanced performance criteria for car seats for children from birth to 105 cm (approx. 4 years old) which are installed with ISOFIX.

i-Size creates greater usage of the safer ISOFIX anchorage system. It also makes it easier for parents and retailers to know when to upsize the child car seat and when to change from rearward- to forward-facing installation. This helps to ensure a full term of at least 15 months of rearward-facing travel and thereby reduces the number of neck and head injuries. In addition, the minimum performance requirements for side-impact collisions ensure that all child car seats, approved under i-Size, provide side-impact protection.
