FIVE GAMES WITH 15-PLUS 3-POINTERS: The Mavericks have made at
least 15 3-pointers in five games this year. Its the first time in
franchise history that Dallas has made at least 15 treys five times
in the same season. In fact, the 1995-96 campaign was the only
other year that the Mavericks made at least 15 3-pointers three
times in the same season (they had four such games that year).
Dallas went 18-of-35 (.514) from deep in the win over the L.A.
Lakers on 11/21/14, 15-of-30 (.500) from 3-point range in the
double-overtime win at Chicago on 12/2/14, 18-of-40 (.450) from
downtown in the loss at Memphis on 12/9/14, 15-of-33 (.455) from
long distance in the win at New York on 12/16/14 and 16-of-28
(.571) from beyond the arc in the win over the L.A. Clippers on
3/13/15. DIRK APPROACHING 10,000 REBOUNDS: Mavericks forward Dirk
Nowitzki has 9,966 rebounds and needs 34 for 10,000 in his career.
He will become one of seven players in NBA history with at least
27,000 points and 10,000 rebounds (joining Kareem Abdul-Jabbar,
Karl Malone, Wilt Chamberlain, Shaquille ONeal, Moses Malone and
Elvin Hayes). EIGHT IN DOUBLE FIGURES FOUR TIMES IN THE SAME
SEASON: The Mavericks had eight players score in double figures
four times this year: 11/15/14 versus Minnesota, 11/21/14 versus
the L.A. Lakers, 1/14/15 at Denver and 2/20/15 versus Houston. Its
the first time in franchise history that Dallas has had at least
eight players score in double digits four times in the same season.
In fact, the only other times Dallas had at least eight players
score in double figures twice in the same year was in 1985-86 and
1992-93. Monta Ellis (30), Dirk Nowitzki (15), J.J. Barea (14),
Brandan Wright (13), Chandler Parsons (12), Tyson Chandler (12),
Al-Farouq Aminu (10) and Richard Jefferson (10) all scored in
double figures in Dallas 131-117 win over Minnesota on 11/15/14. In
the Mavericks 140-106 blowout-win over the Lakers on 11/21/14,
Nowitzki (23), Parsons (21), Ellis (20), Barea (16), Aminu (13),
Brandan Wright (12), Jameer Nelson (10) and Jae Crowder (10) each
recorded 10-plus points. Despite resting Rajon Rondo, Chandler and
Nowitzki at Denver on 1/14/15, the Mavericks still finished with
eight players in double figures (including all five reserves that
played): Barea (17), Jefferson (16), Parsons (13), Devin Harris
(13), Charlie Villanueva (11), Dwight Powell (11), Raymond Felton
(10) and Aminu (10). On 2/20/15 against Houston, Al-Farouq Aminu
(17), Devin Harris (17), Chandler Parsons (13), Rajon Rondo (13),
Charlie Villanueva (13), Dirk Nowitzki (12), Monta Ellis (12) and
Tyson Chandler (10) each scored in double figures. Prior to the
2014-15 season, the last time the Mavericks had eight players score
in double digits was 2/16/11 versus Sacramento. The franchise
record for most players in double figures is nine (11/6/86 at
Seattle and 4/23/87 vs. Seattle). NOWITZKIS 13TH ALL-STAR
APPEARANCE: Mavericks forward Dirk Nowitzki played in his 13th
career All-Star Game in 2015. It was his 13th All-Star appearance
in the last 14 years. Nowitzki had a run of 11 consecutive All-Star
selections before that streak came to an end in 2013 after he
missed the first 27 games of the season recovering from surgery to
his right knee. The big German appeared as a Western Conference
reserve at the 2015 NBA All-Star Game in New York and had five
points, five boards and two steals in 12 minutes. CRAZY COMEBACK:
The Mavericks pulled off an improbable comeback against the Blazers
on 2/7/15. Dallas trailed by 11 (94-83) with under 2 minutes to go
in regulation, but closed the fourth quarter on a 13-2 run (capped
off by a Dirk Nowitzki 3-pointer with 20.9 seconds left) to tie the
game at 96 and force overtime. Dallas then began the overtime
period on a 9-0 run to go up 105-96 with 2:20 left. The run (that
spanned from the 1:55 mark of the fourth quarter through the 2:20
mark of overtime) was a 22-2 blitz. The Mavericks closed the game
(fourth quarter and overtime) on a 28-7 run en route to a 111-101
win. Chandler Parsons scored 10 of Dallas 15 points in overtime.
The last time that the Mavericks won by overcoming a double-digit
deficit in the last 2 minutes of the fourth quarter came on
1/18/01, when they erased a 93-82 Orlando lead to win in overtime,
115-106.

CARLISLE RECORDS 600TH WIN: Mavericks Head Coach Rick Carlisle
recorded his 600th career win at Miami on 1/30/15 (Dallas defeated
Miami, 93-72). He became the 24th coach in NBA history to reach 600
career wins. Carlisle recorded his 600th win in his 1,016th career
game (he improved to 600-416, .591, through 1,016 games). Carlisle

becoming the 27th coach in NBA history to reach 1,000 games. TOO
MUCH MONTA: Monta Ellis scored a Maverick career-high 38 points
twice this year: at Chicago (12/2/14) and versus San Antonio
(12/20/14). In both games, Ellis willed Dallas to victory. Ellis
38-point effort at Chicago (12/2/14) helped Dallas pull out a
132-129 double-overtime win. He went 16-of-35 (.457) from the floor
on the night. Ellis, who logged 45 minutes against the Bulls,
scored 28 of his 38 points after intermission. He forced overtime
by hitting three clutch free throws with 1.2 seconds remaining that
knotted the game at 108. Ellis also scored seven of Dallas 11
points in double-overtime, including a go-ahead 3-pointer with 39.9
seconds left (that put the Mavericks up 130-129 and proved to be
the game-winner). Ellis (7) nearly singlehandedly outscored the
entire Bulls team (8) in the second overtime period. On 12/20/14
versus San Antonio, Ellis delivered another impressive performance,
carrying the Mavericks to a 99-93 win over the Spurs. He scored 13
of his game-high 38 points (15-23 FGs, 5-6 3FGs, 3-6 FTs) in the
fourth quarter, including 11 of Dallas final 13 points. All 13 of
his fourth-quarter points came in the games final 5:38 (including
11 in the final 3:32). Ellis had a stretch where he scored nine
consecutive points in the fourth quarter against San Antonio. MONTA

RONDO STARS IN RETURN TO BOSTON: Rajon Rondo was impressive in
his return to Boston on 1/2/15. Rondo tallied a season-high
(game-high) 29 points (12-19 FGs, 5-7 3FGs) to go along with six
rebounds, five assists and one steal in 35 minutes against the
Celtics. The 29 points were the second-most ever scored by an
ex-Celtic in his first game against Boston (Danny Ainge scored 39
points for the Kings vs. Boston on 12/27/89). Rondo connected on a
career-high five 3-pointers against his former team (he went 5-of-7
from deep). Rondo scored Dallas first 10 points of the game. He
went a perfect 6-for-6 from the field in the first quarter and
scored 15 points in the opening frame. It was the highest scoring
first quarter of his career. Rondo made his first seven shots of
the game and finished 12-of-19 (.632) from the floor on the night.
His 29-point effort was his highest scoring game since 1/18/13
versus Chicago (30 points). DIRK RECORDS 800TH CAREER 20-POINT
GAME: With a 23-point effort against Golden State on 12/13/14, Dirk
Nowitzki recorded his 800th career 20-point game. He became one of
just six players in NBA history with at least 800 career 20-point
games (joining Karl Malone, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Michael Jordan,
Kobe Bryant and Shaquille ONeal). FOUR MAVS WITH 20-PLUS POINTS
TWICE IN THE SAME SEASON: The Mavericks had four players score
20-or-more points in two games this season: 12/2/14 at Chicago and
12/10/14 versus New Orleans. Monta Ellis (38), Chandler Parsons
(24), Dirk Nowitzki (22) and Devin Harris (20) each scored 20-plus
points for the Mavericks in their 132-129 double-overtime win at
Chicago on 12/2/14. It marked the first time since 1/25/11 versus
the L.A. Clippers that Dallas had four players score 20-plus points
in the same game. Just five games later (vs. New Orleans on
12/10/14), the Mavericks accomplished the feat again (and with the
same four players). Ellis (26), Parsons (20), Nowitzki (20) and
Harris (20) each scored 20-plus points for Dallas in a 112-107 win
over the Pelicans. It marked the first time since 2007-08 that
Dallas had four players score 20-or-more points twice in the same
season. That year, Dallas accomplished the feat 11/8/07 at Golden
State and 2/29/08 versus Sacramento. Ellis (11-of-19), Parsons
(8-of-13), Harris (8-of-13) and Nowitzki (8-of-16) each made at
least half of their field goal attempts in Dallas win over New
Orleans on 12/10/14. It was the first time since 3/24/86 at Indiana
that the Mavericks had four players score 20-plus points and make
at least half of their field goal attempts in a regulation game
(when Mark Aguirre, Rolando Blackman, Jay Vincent and Brad Davis
each did it). MAVS TIE FRANCHISE RECORD FOR 3-POINTERS MADE IN A
GAME TWICE THIS YEAR: The Mavericks went 18-of-35 (.514) from
beyond the arc against the L.A. Lakers on 11/21/14 and 18-of-40
(.450) from deep at Memphis on 12/9/14, twice tying the franchise
record for the most 3-pointers made in a regular-season game. The
Mavericks hit 18 3-pointers in a game twice this year, after they
did so just three times in the teams previous 34 seasons (Dallas
went 18-of-37 from 3-point range at Denver on 2/29/96, 18-of-49 vs.
New Jersey on 3/5/96 and 18-of-40 at Atlanta on 1/15/02). The 35
3-point attempts against the Lakers (11/21/14) were the fewest
needed to tie the franchise mark. The Mavericks connected on 51.4
percent of their 35 3-point attempts against Los Angeles, the
highest 3-point percentage Dallas has ever posted while attempting
at least 30 triples in a regular-season game (the previous best was
.486, 18-of-37, set at Denver on 2/29/96). J.J. Barea went a

MONTAS GAME-WINNER: Mavericks guard Monta Ellis hit an 18-foot
game-winning fadeaway jumper at the buzzer to give the Mavericks a
107-105 win over Milwaukee on 12/3/14. It marked the sixth time in
his career that Ellis made a game-winning basket in the final 5
seconds of a game. It was also his fourth career buzzer-beater (and
his second with the Mavericks). Ellis buzzer-beater came just one
night after he led Dallas to a 132-129 double-overtime win at
Chicago on 12/2/14 (he scored a game-high 38 points against the
Bulls). He finished with 23 points, including 10 in the fourth
quarter (8 in the final 1:34), to go along with a game-high seven
assists and three steals in 36 minutes at Milwaukee on 12/3/14.
Ellis made his first game-winning shot in the final 5 seconds of a
contest since 12/7/13 at Portland (when he hit a 21-foot jumper at
the buzzer to give the Mavericks a 108-106 victory over the
Blazers). Ellis other game-winning baskets in the final 5 seconds
include: 1/24/07 versus New Jersey (with the Warriors), 1/19/11

rebounds (10 OR) to go along with 17 points and two blocks in 43
minutes in Dallas 109-102 overtime-win over the Knicks on 11/26/14.
The 25 boards were tied for the fifth-most in franchise history
(Roy Tarpley had 25 vs. Milwaukee on 4/1/90) and the most by any
Dallas player since Erick Dampier had 26 vs. Philadelphia on
1/29/05 (Popeye Jones holds the Dallas franchise record with 28
boards vs. Indiana on 1/9/96). It also marked the second-highest
rebounding game of Chandlers career (he had a career-high 28
rebounds vs. Golden State on 2/27/13). The 25 rebounds were the
most by any NBA player this season (Orlandos Nikola Vucevic had the
previous high total with 23 at New Orleans on 10/28/14). Chandler,
who played the previous three seasons with the Knicks (2011-14),
grabbed 25 boards in his first game against New York since being
traded to Dallas in June. Only two players have totaled as many
rebounds in their first game against a former team. Charles Barkley
recorded 33 rebounds for the Rockets at Phoenix on 11/2/96 and Wilt
Chamberlain had 29 boards for the 76ers against the San Francisco
Warriors on 1/21/65. SCORING THE ROCK: The Mavericks are averaging
104.6 points per game this season, which ranks third in the NBA.
They are shooting 46.1 percent from the floor this year, which
ranks fifth in the league. The Mavericks havent finished the season
ranked as high as fourth in the league in scoring since the 2004-05
campaign (third). The Mavericks have led the NBA in scoring three
times in franchise history (they did so in three straight seasons
from 2001-04). The Mavericks are 27-5 this season when they score
at least 105 points in a game. CAPITALIZING OFF TURNOVERS: The
Mavericks are averaging 19.3 points off turnovers this season,
which ranks second in the NBA. Dallas scored a season-high 39
points off of Philadelphias 28 turnovers on 11/13/14. TAKING CARE
OF THE BASKETBALL: The Mavericks have recorded 13-or-fewer
turnovers in 43 games this season. Dallas is averaging only 12.7
turnovers per game this year (the third-fewest in the NBA). Dallas
averaged 13.5 turnovers per game in 2013-14, which ranked third in
the league. BALANCED ATTACK: Dallas has had at least five players
score in double figures 39 times this season. The Mavericks are
30-9 this year when they have at least five players reach double
figures. They are also 15-3 when they have at least six players in
double digits. CHANDLER THE NBAS ALL-TIME LEADER IN 5-FOR-5 OR
BETTER GAMES: Mavericks center Tyson Chandler went a perfect
6-for-6 from the field and recorded 12 points and seven rebounds in
33 minutes versus Charlotte on 2/22/15. It marked the 21st time in
his career (third time this season) that Chandler went at least
5-for-5 from the floor in a regular-season game, passing Wilt
Chamberlain (20 such games) for the highest total in NBA history.
Chandler went 5-for-5 from the field versus Utah on 10/30/14 and
7-for-7 from the floor at Charlotte on 11/17/14. TYSON DOMINATING
THE PAINT: Tyson Chandler has been a beast in the middle for Dallas
this season. Chandler ranks second in the NBA with 156 dunks this
year. He also ranks third in offensive rebounds per game (4.0) and
fifth in rebounds per game (11.5). Chandler is shooting 67.3
percent from the field this season. Not only has Chandler been
efficient on the offensive end for Dallas this season, but hes
protected the paint as well (hes averaging 1.2 bpg this year).
DALLAS TIES TEAM RECORD FOR POINTS IN THE PAINT: The Mavericks
outscored the Timberwolves 76-38 in the paint in a 131-117 win at
the American Airlines Center on 11/15/14. The 76 points in the
paint tied a franchise record (also had 76 vs. the L.A. Clippers
4/4/02). In fact, the game against the Clippers on 4/4/02 was the
only other time Dallas recorded 70-plus points in the paint (the
NBA began tracking the statistic in 2000-01). MAVS SET FRANCHISE
RECORD FOR MARGIN OF VICTORY IN WIN OVER 76ERS: The Mavericks set a
new franchise record for largest margin of victory (53) in a 123-70
win over the Sixers at home on 11/13/14. The previous record was
50, set at New York on 1/24/10 (when the Mavericks defeated the
Knicks 127-78 at Madison Square Garden). The 53-point win over
Philadelphia is the largest margin of victory by one opponent over
another since the Lakers beat the Cavaliers by 55 (112-57) at the
STAPLES Center on 1/11/11. Dallas never trailed at any point (there
were no ties) and held a 28-point advantage (38-10) after one. It
marked a franchise record for the largest lead after one quarter of
play. The previous high first-quarter margin was 24 (Dallas led
44-20 after one quarter vs. Cleveland on 11/15/86 and went on to
win 111-96; Dallas also led 40-16 vs. Detroit on 11/19/05 and went
on to win 119-82). The Mavericks built a big lead early, and it
would only grow from there. Dallas outshot Philadelphia 58.5
percent (24-of-41) to 25.7 percent (9-of-35) from the floor in the
first half and led by 44 (73-29) at the break. The 44-point
half-time lead marked a franchise record. The Mavericks previous
high half-time margin was 39 (Dallas led 75-36 at the half at New
York on 12/21/04 and went on to win 123-94). Whats more, the
44-point advantage at the half was tied for the second-largest lead
by any team after 24 minutes in NBA history (the Warriors led the
Kings by 47 points, 88-41, on 11/2/91, and the SuperSonics led the
Celtics by 44 points, 75-31, in the first game of a doubleheader at
the Spectrum in Philadelphia on 11/23/67). The Mavericks were up by
42 (95-53) going into the fourth quarter. It tied the franchises

three quarters vs. Detroit on 11/9/02 and went on to win 114-75).
The Mavericks led by as many as 58 points in the fourth quarter and
cruised to a 123-70 win. The Mavericks outshot the Sixers 51.3
percent (41-of-80) to 29.9 percent (23-of-77) from the field on the
night. Dallas also outshot Philadelphia 83.3 percent (30-of-36) to
51.5 percent (17-of-33) from the line. The Mavericks recorded 33
assists on 41 made field goals (compared to the Sixers nine assists
on 23 made baskets). MAVS RALLY FROM 24 DOWN TO BEAT KINGS: The
Mavericks overcame a 24-point deficit to defeat the Kings at home
on 11/11/14 (Dallas trailed 44-20 with 8:46 to go in the second
quarter but came back to win 106-98). It was tied for the
third-largest comeback in franchise history. Dallas also came back
from 24 down to beat Toronto in both 2005-06 and 2007-08 (both at
home). The Mavericks beat the Raptors 115-113 in overtime on
2/25/06 (after trailing 86-62 with 6:01 to go in the third quarter)
and also came back from 24 down to beat Toronto 105-99 on 11/20/07
(after trailing 49-25 with 5:58 left in the second). The largest
deficit the Mavericks overcame in team history was 29 versus
Minnesota on 12/30/08 (trailed 70-41 with 10:26 remaining in the
third and came back to win 107-100). The second-largest was 25 at
Denver on 11/26/94 (trailed 62-37 with 1:05 to go in the second and
came back to win 124-123 in overtime). With the victory over the
Kings on 11/11/14, the Mavericks have now won 21 consecutive home
games against the Kings (2004-present). Its their longest ever home
winning streak against one

opponent (Dallas previous long home winning streak against any
team was 16 vs. Golden State from 1982-88). The Kings have not won
in Dallas since 2/27/03, when they recorded a 126-124
overtime-victory. 20,000 MANIAACS: Since 12/15/01, Dallas has sold
out 547 regular-season home games, which is an NBA-best-sellout
streak. Dallas has also sold out an additional 63 playoff games
during that same stretch. The listed capacity for American Airlines
Center is 19,200 but that can be surpassed because of attendance in
the suites. Since moving into American Airlines Center (2001-02
season), the Mavericks have posted a record of 416-142 (.746) at
home during the regular season. The Mavericks 140-106 victory over
the L.A. Lakers on 11/21/14 was their 400th win at the AAC. Dallas
has sold out all of its games in each of the past 12 seasons. DIRK
ON THE ALL-TIME FREE THROWS LIST: Mavericks forward Dirk Nowitzki
has shot 6,705-of-7,630 (.879) from the line for his career and
ranks 11th all-time in free throws made. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and
Dolph Schayes rank tied for ninth with 6,712 career free throws.
Abdul-Jabbar (6,712) is the only 7-footer with more career made
free throws than Nowitzki. The big German passed Bob Pettit
(6,182), Reggie Miller (6,237), Charles Barkley (6,349) and Allen
Iverson (6,375) on the NBAs all-time free throws made list in
2013-14. Nowitzki shot 89.9 percent (338-of-376) from the line in
2013-14, which ranked second in the NBA (New Orleans Brian Roberts
shot a league-high .940, 125-of-133). It marked the third time in
his career that Nowitzki finished second in the league in free
throw percentage (also: 2006-07 and 2009-10).

31-0 when leading going into the fourth quarter.
31-6 when leading at the half.
12-2 when they score at least 60 points in the first half. HOW
THE ROSTER WAS BUILT: Dallas has been busy making moves this
season. The Mavericks made a big trade with New York on 6/25/14,
bringing back the defensive anchor from their 2011 title team,
Tyson Chandler, and also acquiring veteran guard Raymond Felton in
exchange for center Samuel Dalembert, guards Jose Calderon, Wayne
Ellington and Shane Larkin and two 2014 second-round draft picks.
On 7/14/14, the Mavericks acquired big man Greg Smith from Chicago
in exchange for the rights to Tadija Dragicevic. On 7/15/14, Dallas
re-signed 13-time All-Star Dirk Nowitzki and also signed forward
Chandler Parsons, who was a restricted free agent with the Rockets.
Dallas re-signed veteran guard Devin Harris on 7/17/14. The
Mavericks signed veteran forward Richard Jefferson on 7/21/14.
Dallas signed forward Al-Farouq Aminu on 7/29/14 and veteran
forward Charlie Villanueva on 9/23/14. On 10/29/14, the Mavericks
brought back guard J.J. Barea, another key player from their 2011
title team (signing him as a free agent). The Mavericks made
another blockbuster trade on 12/18/14, acquiring four-time All-Star
Rajon Rondo and center/forward Dwight Powell from Boston in
exchange for center Brandan Wright, forward Jae Crowder, guard
Jameer Nelson, a 2015 first round pick and a 2016 second round
pick. Dallas signed six-time All-Star Amare Stoudemire on 2/18/15.
After signing him to a pair of 10-day contracts, the Mavericks
signed center Bernard James for the remainder of the season on
3/3/15. The roster currently stands at 15 players. Eleven of the 15
were not with the Mavericks last season (Aminu, Barea, Chandler,
Felton, Jefferson, Parsons, Powell, Rondo, Smith, Stoudemire and
Villanueva). However, four are in their second stint with Dallas
(Barea, Chandler, Harris and James) and three were members of the
Mavericks 2011 NBA championship team (Nowitzki, Chandler and
Barea). The Mavericks also have a number of veterans with playoff
experience. Jefferson (2002, 2003), Nowitzki (2006, 2011), Harris
(2006), Rondo (2008, 2010), Chandler (2011) and Barea (2011) have
each appeared in the NBA Finals. 2013-14 SEASON RECAP: The Dallas
Mavericks finished one win shy of their 14th 50-win season in
franchise history in 2013-14 (49-33, .598). Dirk Nowitzki led
Dallas in scoring with 21.7 points per game en route to earning his
12th career All-Star selection. Monta Ellis spent his first season
in Dallas and joined Nowitzki to form one of the leagues most
dynamic scoring tandems. Ellis averaged a team-high 5.7 assists per
game to go along with his 19.0 points per contest. Dallas appeared
in the postseason for the 13th time in the last 14 years (19th time
in franchise history) and entered the NBA Playoffs as the eighth
seed in the Western Conference. The Mavericks took the eventual NBA
champion San Antonio Spurs to seven games in the first round, a
feat no other team was able to achieve throughout the duration of
the playoffs. HISTORY OF THE FRANCHISE: The Dallas Mavericks, now
in their 35th season, have won three division titles (1987, 2007,
2010) and made 19 playoff appearances (including 12 straight from
2001-12). The Mavericks have made four Western Conference Finals
appearances (1988, 2003, 2006, 2011) and advanced to the NBA Finals
twice (2006 and 2011). Dallas captured its first NBA championship
in 2011.

with Dallas (7th Season): 330-213 (.608); Playoff Record with
Dallas: 26-22 (.542) Rick Carlisle is in his seventh season as the
head coach of the Dallas Mavericks. He was hired by Dallas in May
of 2008, and is the third-longest tenured head coach in the league
behind San Antonios Gregg Popovich (hired in December 1996) and
Miamis Erick Spoelstra (April 2008). Carlisle signed a contract
extension with the club on May 15, 2012, after leading the
Mavericks to the postseason in each of his first four seasons at
the helm. Carlisle has led his team to the playoffs 10 times in his
12 seasons as a head coach. He guided the Mavericks to their
first-ever world championship in 2011, becoming one of only 11
individuals to win an NBA championship as both a player and a head
coach (he won a title as a player with Boston in 1986). Carlisle
recorded his 500th career win against Portland on Feb. 6, 2013,
becoming the 28th coach in NBA history to reach the milestone.
Carlisle was named the ninth Dallas coach in franchise history on
May 9, 2008. He joined the Mavericks after spending six seasons,
with Detroit and Indiana, as a head coach. Carlisle recorded his
300th win with Dallas at Toronto on Nov. 28, 2014. He served as an
ESPN studio analyst during the 2007-08 NBA season before coming to
Dallas. Carlisle began his head coaching career with Detroit.
During his two-season tenure, the Pistons won 61 percent (100-64)
of their games to go along with two Central Division championships
and one trip to the Eastern Conference Finals. Following his first
season as head coach in 2002, Carlisle earned the NBAs Coach of the
Year award. Carlisle joined Indiana as the head coach on Sept. 2,
2003. In his first year, Carlisle led the Pacers to the NBAs best
record (61-21), the most victories in franchise history, the best
winning percentage in team history (.744) and a Central Division
championship. He also led the Pacers to the 2004 Eastern Conference
Finals where they eventually lost to the Pistons.
Carlisle, including his previous two seasons with Detroit,
became the first coach since Pat Riley to win 50 games and division
championships in each of his first three seasons as a head coach.
Overall, Carlisle earned a 181-147 (.552) regular season record in
Indiana and led the team to three consecutive postseason
appearances before stepping down following the 2006-07 campaign. A
native of Ogdensburg, N.Y., Carlisle began his coaching career in
1989 as an assistant with the New Jersey Nets. In five seasons with
the Nets, he had the opportunity to work under Hall of Fame
coaching legends Bill Fitch and Chuck Daly. Carlisle then moved on
to Portland, where he spent three seasons as an assistant under
P.J. Carlesimo before joining former teammate Larry Birds staff in
Indiana during the summer of 1997. In 1984, Carlisle began his NBA
career as the only rookie to make the Boston Celtics roster. He
spent three seasons in Boston and enjoyed his best year as a pro
when he averaged 9.9 minutes in 77 games for the 1986 world
champions. He then played one year with the New York Knicks under
head coach Rick Pitino before moving on to New Jersey, where he
played briefly for Fitch before being offered an assistant coaching
position with the franchise.
