Introduction to Each Module Workbook

Introduction Welcome to the Luminous Spaces Feng Shui Your Home! Video Series. In this program you will learn about feng shui in a new way! You will not only come to an understanding of some of the basic principles of the craft, but you will also get guidance on what you can do to make simple change in your environment to begin to bring in more harmony and balance, and therefore, more joy, health and success into your life! Feng shui is a complex study, with many faces, teachings and most importantly, deep knowledge. Knowledge that is so deep that you can never stop learning about it! You can hear the same information over and over again and still get yet another layer of meaning from it that will enrich your life. At the very beginning of my studies, one of my feng shui masters said that they, after 20 plus years, are still learning. Always a student! This type of work is what draws me in. I love learning and deepening my understanding of the interconnectedness of everything in the universe. I studied astrology as a teenager and have continued my studies of philosophy, astrology, psychology, divination practices, architecture, green living and finally feng shui! To me, feng shui bring all of these studies together and adds a depth that I never realized possible. Do you want to know my mission here? That I make you fall in love with feng shui with the enthusiasm I had for it in the beginning and continue to have for it a decade later. Information-Packed Modules There are 5 Modules in the Full Series. Module 1 is Introduction to Feng Shui. In this module we will review the basic principles of feng shui, including the balance of yin and yang, harmonizing and attracting positive chi and the natural five elements that is used in Chinese philosophy, Traditional Chinese Medicine and the martial arts. In addition, you will learn about the Bagua map to use as a tool to identify areas in your home that you want and need to change. Module 2 will start our journey through important areas of your home, and this one will focus on the front door. Feng Shui Entries will teach you about the importance of the front door and show you examples of poor feng shui and good feng shui, and why! This module will help you to understand how to keep negative energy, either from your neighborhood or your property, from entering your home. And you will get great tips on how to improve your entry based on the compass direction. Module 3 is focused on the bedroom. You will see examples of poor feng shui and good feng shui bedrooms, the importance of the bed itself and how artwork can have the power to either bring you joy or make you feel depressed! And lastly, you will get tips on how to create the best bedroom for health and happiness. Module 4 is about the home office. Feng Shui Home Office will review the importance of the home office for everyone – either as your primary or secondary workspace. You will learn about the symbolism of your desk and placement. How to Get the Most from the Luminous Spaces Feng Shui Series This series is a comprehensive tool to help you improve your life. Review my suggestions for getting the most out of this Series and you decide how best to learn based on your own style:

1. Do the modules, one by one. I suggest starting with Module 1: An Introduction to Feng Shui so that you have a foundation of material from which to build upon.

2. Listen to the Visualization first on MP3. Take a few minutes, in a quiet space and listen to the visualization and take notes on any feelings and observations you have in your workbook.

3. Watch the video and keep the workbook handy for taking notes on ideas. Throughout the video, you may pause and answer questions in the workbook.

4. Finally, you might have a list of a few ideas you have to improve your space. I suggest that you implement the simpler ideas immediately! You can start feeling the power of feng shui firsthand.

5. After you have reviewed all the modules, I suggest that you wait a few weeks or a few months and then do the visualizations again. Have you noticed any change in your feelings or observations compared to the first time? Take note.

6. Have fun and enjoy the learning experience! I love feedback from my clients and students. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or comments or even to let me know how feng shui is working in your life. You can email me at [email protected]. Namaste,

What is Feng Shui?

Wind and Water are the powerful natural elements that shape the earth and provide nourishing energy to support life. Feng Shui is the art and science of working with this energy, or chi. Chi is everywhere and in everything – it is the building blocks of life.

Feng Shui is the art of balancing and harmonizing the flow of chi according to its natural order. It’s about harnessing beneficial chi for human abundance.

Feng Shui was used for safety and comfort. If you’re family had good Feng Shui, they would be able to prosper. Without it, you cannot.

BASIC CONCEPTS

Flow of Chi Yin & Yang The Five Natural Elements The Bagua

Page 6: Maureen K. Calamia, BBA, CFSC, BBP · Maureen uses concepts of environmental psychology and biophilia in her designs to inspire balance and joy by re-establishing a connection to

Flow of Chi

Chi moving through the landscape is analogous to the movement of wind and as water flows through a river.

Defining and Describing Chi:

Words used to define chi are adjectives It is symbolic of what is going on in your life

Types of Chi

Sheng Chi – Sheng Chi is chi that is life-supporting and nourishing chi. This is what we strive to live and work in.

Sha Chi – Sha Chi is chi that is life-draining, leaving you feeling weak, tired, stressed. This is what we strive to deflect and avoid with Feng Shui cures.

Yin & Yang

Feng Shui is about how we FEEL in our surroundings. Are we comfortable or uneasy? If a room is “balanced” we feel comfortable. A balance between yin and yang has been

achieved. However, if a room makes us feel uncomfortable, it could very well be that it’s either too

yang or too yin.

The Five Natural Elements

Yin and yang are polar opposites of chi. However, the type of chi experienced is flavored by the basic elements of nature. The Five Elements are Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water. Interaction between these elements and chi form the foundation theory for achieving Feng Shui balance. There are at least three cycles affecting the five types of chi represented by these elements:

Nourishing- Creative Controlling - Destructive Reductive - Draining

“Whatever we are not conscious of will be expressed in our environment”

– Carl Jung

Rule for Determining Bonus Additions & Missing Areas

A Missing Area is defined as added property, but only if the “addition” to the regular shape is more than half that side of the house

A bonus is if the “addition” to the regular shape is less than half that side of the house
