Matter properties
Buoyancy Buoyancy is the upward force of water, another
liquid,or air keeps things afloat.
MassIs the amount of matter
in an object and is measured in units of grams or kilograms
SolidWhat is a solid? A solid is
made of matter and particles that are packed together tightly and there
movement is vibrating.
Liquid What is a liquid? a liquid
has fixed size and particles. The particles move slow and freely.
GasWhat is a gas? A gas has
particles and no fixed size.the gas particles move fast and free
Matter
Matter is anything that takes up space and has mass.the three states of matter are solids, liquids,
and gas.
AreaThe amount of space
inside a flat object. The formula to find area is L x
W.
Perimeter Perimeter is measuring the distance around an
object.
Volume Volume is the amount of
space occupied by an object measured in three
dimensions.
DensityIs a measure of mass per
volume.
MixtureSolution is a mixture that is blended completely.two or
more types of matter combiner.examples of a
mixture are: mix vegetables, salt water, and
grape juice.each type keeps it's original properties. A
mixture can be separated 1.sort by 2.fiter 3.
Evaperation.
CompoundEach element loses it's
property when combined. Froms when two or more elements are combined chemically. Examples: salt , sugar , and rust.
AlloyMixing metal with
another elements can make it stronger. A mix of
two or more elements one must be metal.
AtomsAtoms of one elements
are all alike. Smallest part of an element.
ElementsElements are made up of
only type of matter.Elements are the
building blocks of matter.Examples:gold,silv
er,oxygen.
Chemical change
Involves energy either takes in or gives of energy.Changes in
matter itself (start with one kind of matter and
end with a another.
Physical change
In a physical change heat energy causes matter to change state. There are four types of physical
change 1.Change in size and shape 2.change in
texture 3.change in position and last but not least #4.change in state.
