• Section 1: SBOE and the IHSAA must provide a link on their websites to CDC guidelines and educational materials.

• Section 2: Applies to Middle School, Junior High School and High School athletics.

• Section 3: Mandates education to parents and athletes prior to the start of an athletic season. Coaches, AT’s and referees must review biannually.

• Athlete must be removed when “reasonably suspected” of sustaining an injury

return by a qualified health care professional who is trained in the evaluation and management of concussions.”

• Recommendations:

• Biannual baseline ImPACT testing of athletes in the following activities:

• Football, volleyball, wrestling, basketball, soccer, baseball, softball, pole vaulting, cheer, or any other athlete at the request of the athlete’s parent, guardian or coach.

• Establish baselines using other cognitive tests such as BESS, SAC, etc.

• At least once in an athlete’s junior high and high school career.

Academic Accommodations

• Proper communication with athlete and athlete’s parents

• Implemented when students have a disability (temporary or permanent) that affects their performance in any manner.

• Environmental adaptations, curriculum modifications, and behavioral strategies.

• Students recovering from a concussion may need to:

• Take rest breaks as needed

• Spend fewer hours at school

• Be given more time to take tests or complete assignments

• Receive help with schoolwork, and/or

• Reduce time spent on the computer, reading, or writing
