TERM 3 – WEEK 4 – 2020PRINCIPAL’S REPORTWelcome parents to our
latest edition of our Newsletter. As you can see throughout this
edition we have been extremely busy over the past
fortnight.Newcastle OOSHLast week the panel and I met to select an
OOSH provider for our school. I am excited to announce that we have
secured an OOSH provider through a tender process. OOSH Newcastle

outstanding before/after and vacation care for students at Wangi
Wangi Public School. Please look out for details coming to you in
the following weeks on how to enrol in the service. It will operate

https://ooshnewcastle.com.au/ Australian Primary Principal’s DayI
would like to thank our whole school community and wonderful
students for all of your incredibly kind words last Friday, which
was the Australian Primary Principal’s Day. I was thrilled to have
all of our students present handmade cards and to receive 4 FISH
awards at a special Friday assembly. I am incredibly lucky to be
the leader of such a kind, caring and dynamic school. My job is
made very enjoyable by having such dedicated and thoughtful
students and a team of professional colleagues working along side
me each day.Tell Them From Me Parent SurveyCan I please ask parents
to take some time and participate in this year’s TTFM parent
survey. At Wangi Wangi Public School we analyse and use the results
of this survey to see what aspects are working well at school and
to identify areas where we can improve. The parent survey is
anonymous and helps to clarify and strengthen the important
relationship between parent and school. The following link will
give you quick access to the
survey,http://nsw.tellthemfromme.com/WWPS How can schools use the
data? The survey data can help schools:• understand parents’
perspectives on their children’s experience at school, including
teaching, communication and the school’s support of learning and
behaviour• understand parents’ perspectives on activities and
practices at home related to their children’s learning• provide
evidence of areas of strength to support self-assessment and
reporting• engage the school community in discussions to identify
strategic directions for school improvement• establish improvement
measures and help schools track achievement against themTim

3/4M have been using the fabulous spheros in technology. They
got to design their own race tracks, build their tracks in real
life and use them to race one another.
3/4M have been loving drama this term. They are all engaged,
engrossed and eager participants in drama lessons this week. They
have been learning and testing out dramatic techniques of voice and
characterisation. They have also been working tirelessly on their
acting ensemble rehearsing Matilda the Musical. They cannot wait to
stage this one!
They have also been working hard on their persuasive writing.
Here are some of our super star writers who got to visit Mr Lewis’s
WOW Work Wall, to show off their persuasive writing!
Miss Molloy’s Art Club has been a real hit. We have been
focusing on portrait drawing techniques, to create these stunning
artworks. They have also been developing their painting skills in a
lesson which focussed on the techniques of blending, to create a
stunning sunset artwork.

Meet our debating team - Tynan, Gabby, Regan and Shaye. These
four students were selected after two trials, one in which all
interested students prepared and presented an argument and one in
which they had to summarise and rebut an argument of mine. All
students who auditioned for the team should be commended for their
efforts. Our team will share their debating experiences via our
Newsletter throughout the year.Mrs Peterson

On Mondays and Tuesdays at recess, a group of dedicated students
from years 3-5 have been engaging in STEM activities with Miss
Baillache. STEM - Science, Technology, Engineering &
Mathematics, - allows students to develop critical thinking and
problem solving skills while working collaboratively. We have been
learning how to code Circuit Playgrounds (a little circuit board
you can code to do almost anything!). Students have made sirens,
lights that turn on by clapping, night lights and even a
temperature gauge. Students have also been learning how to code and
drive our awesome Spheros. Next week, students will be working on
making a game using our Circuit Playgrounds which we would love to
get some of our infants students to try out! Watch this space! Miss
Baillache
STEM CLUB
MATHEMATICSWe are now in our fourth week of Maths Groups, which
means that we will be assessing student learning and achievement
next week. This is exciting for both teachers and students. It is
exciting for teachers because we can measure and evaluative the
effectiveness of our teaching. The excitement for students comes
from being able to see their growth. Students will place their
post-test avatar on their class data wall and compare it to where
their pre-test avatar was placed, which gives them a clear visual
representation of how much they have learnt and improved throughout
the five week cycle. I have been fortunate enough to get in and
team teach with different teachers during the Maths block over the
past few weeks. I am impressed and proud of the consistent practice
that we are establishing across our school in this area. Seeing
students engage in daily Number Talks, where they share and develop
flexible strategies has been a highlight for me. There is nothing
better than seeing students’ ‘crunchy eyebrows’ turn into ‘ah-ha
moments’!Danni Peterson - Assistant Principal
On Wednesday morning the PBL group walked to Dobell Park to
observe the area for our Making A Space for Change project. We got
to experience what it is like to be a designer in the beginning the
stages of design by photographing the things we want to change and
add to our new environmentally sustainable design of Dobell Park.
We also had a little fun whilst we were there. Laicey, Gabby and
Shaye
