Year 1 Week 6 Maths Tasks Shape Dear Parents, This week the children are going to consolidate their understanding of shape. This is something that they have looked at once before with Miss Tetlow. This week we will be recapping our knowledge and deepening our understanding of shapes and their properties, by answering lots of reasoning questions. Shape is something that I really enjoy teaching and we usually have lots of fun in class building 3d shapes with straws and plasticene or Migit gems and cocktail sticks. We also go out on shape hunts around the school and create tallies of all the shapes we find. These are some activities which you may wish to do at home for a bit of fun this week or over the half term. Kind Regards, Mrs Pocock Suggested structure to each Maths session: ➢ 5-minute warm up ‘Flashback’ ➢ Watching a pre-recorded video input if there is one available for this day- Please find the link underneath the ‘Flashback 4’ warm up. ➢ 10- 15 minutes spent completing the Try, Use and Prove tasks provided. ➢ Optional ‘Chilli’ Challenges. ➢ 5 minutes to check answers and self-reflection upon learning. Have I met the success criteria? In Bowldown, we have a maths ‘chilli chart’ in which the children sometimes rate how spicy they think the challenge of the tasks set were on a scale of Mild, Spicy, Hot and Super-Hot. The children are welcome to rate their tasks at home as part of the reflection on learning. If you see a red chilli symbol next to a question or task, then this means that it is designed with a high level of challenge. LO = the learning objective. Success Criteria = I can/I know/I recognise/I understand statements.
