Teachers should select items that cover a range of cognitive demand levels for a "balanced summative assessment". Include only those items which support the mathematics taught. Choose items from the following resources or from other sources as appropriate: the Mid-Chapter Practice Tests and End of Chapter Practice Tests, Self-Check Quizzes and Chapter Tests from the Assessment Resource Book (multiple choice and free response items), MathScape (Self-Check Quizzes), and the ExamView Test Generator.

Note: It is the pacing authors’ opinion that out of the 24 Common Core State Standards for Grade 7 mathematics, one standard is not reflected in the seventh grade Glencoe textbook. That standard is 7.EE.1 (apply properties of operations as strategies to add, subtract, factor, and expand linear expressions with rational coefficients).
Additionally, the seventh grade pacing authors found that there are four standards that are lacking depth in the seventh grade curriculum:
1) 7.EE.3, 2) 7.G.2, 3) 7.G.3 and 4) 7.NS.2(d): Standard 3 in the Equations and Expressions domain is addressed in separate lessons, multi-step real-life and mathematical problems are posed; however, it lacks positive and negative rational numbers in various forms (whole numbers, fractions, and decimals). Standard 2 in the Geometry domain is partially addressed in that it is lacking a focus on constructing triangles from three measures of angles or sides, noticing when the conditions determine a unique triangle, more than one triangle, or no triangle. Standard 3 in the Geometry domain is partially addressed in that it is lacking a description of two-dimensional figures that result from splicing three-dimensional figures. Standard 2d in The Number System domain lacks a specific connection to rational numbers.
Furthermore, the seventh grade pacing authors found that the seventh grade curriculum lacks instruction and application of complex fractions, which is found in 7.NS.3 and 7.RP.1.
