Percent of change You can have either a percent of increase or a

percent of decrease

Percent of increase is the amount the number increases.

Percent of decrease is the amount the number decreases.

Finding percent of change

Subtract numbers in problems ALWAYS largest – smallest

Divide difference by the 1st amount listed in problem

Change answer to a percent

Finding percent of change

25 is decreased to 18

Subtract numbers in problems ALWAYS largest – smallest

25-18 = 7

Divide difference by the 1st amount listed in problem 7 ÷ 25 = 0.28

Change answer to a percent 0.28 is 28%

Finding percent of change

28 is increased to 96

Subtract numbers in problems ALWAYS largest – smallest

96-28 = 68

Divide difference by the 1st amount listed in problem 68 ÷ 28 = 2.428571429 *round to thousandths 2.429
