Print Lesson 1: Finding ‘x’ Math on the Move pdf. Place individual

math problems on the walls around the classroom. Have students get

out of their seats and move around the room to complete the 5 problems

independently. Place the answer keys in a central location, so that students can check their work.

Teacher Note:

Math on the Move

Complete the practice problems that have been placed around the room.

When you finish, check your answers with the keys provided.

Finding ‘x’

Page 4: Math on the Move:Combining Like Terms and Distributive Property

Solve for x.

15x + 12 = 25x - 8

Page 5: Math on the Move:Combining Like Terms and Distributive Property

Solve for x.

15x + 12 = 25x - 8 -25x -25x

-10x + 12 = -8 -12 -12

-10x = -20 -10 -10

x = 2

Page 6: Math on the Move:Combining Like Terms and Distributive Property

Solve for x.

8(x + 20) + x = 187

Page 7: Math on the Move:Combining Like Terms and Distributive Property

Solve for x.

8(x + 20) + x = 187

-160 -160

8x + 160 + x = 187 9x + 160 = 187

9x = 27 9 9

x = 3

Page 8: Math on the Move:Combining Like Terms and Distributive Property

Solve for x.

21x - 8 = 8x + p

Page 9: Math on the Move:Combining Like Terms and Distributive Property

Solve for x.

21x - 8 = 8x + p -8x -8x

13x - 8 = p +8 +8

13x = p + 8 13 13

x = p + 8 13

Page 10: Math on the Move:Combining Like Terms and Distributive Property

Solve for y.

5x - y + 7 = 12x + 3

Page 11: Math on the Move:Combining Like Terms and Distributive Property

Solve for y.

5x - y + 7 = 12x + 3 +y +y

5x + 7 = 12x + 3 + y -12x -12x

-7x + 7 = 3 + y -3 -3

-7x + 4 = y y = -7x + 4

Page 12: Math on the Move:Combining Like Terms and Distributive Property

Solve for y.

2x + y + 1 = 8x + 5

Page 13: Math on the Move:Combining Like Terms and Distributive Property

Solve for y.

2x + y + 1 = 8x + 5 -2x -2x

y + 1 = 6x + 5 -1 -1

y = 6x + 4
