Simple Yellow CakeSimple Yellow CakeIngredients:2 1/3 Cups All-purpose Flour1 Tablespoon Baking Powder3/4 Teaspoon Salt1 1/2 Cups White Sugar1/2 Cup Shortening2 Eggs1 Cup Milk1 Teaspoon Vanilla Extract

DIRECTIONS:Sift together flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar. Cut in shortening until fine crumbs are formed. Add eggs, milk, and vanilla. Beat at low speed for 1 minute, then high for 2 minutes, scraping the bowl frequently.

Pour batter into greased and floured 9x13 inch pan. Bake in preheated 350 degree F oven (175 degrees C) for 25 to 30 minute

If we needed to make enough cakes to feed 200 people, how much of each ingredient would we need, if we only

made whole cakes and we cut out 24 pieces from each pan ?

Approx. 45 cups or 10+ Quarts

Many mixers, like this one, only hold 5 quarts, so we may need to mix a

batch 2-3 times.

So now do you see why we might want to study math?

Let’s get into your study groups and “brainstorm” some ideas for your own slide

show? We will pass out papers for your slides.

Friday, after lunch break, we will try to input a slide or two.
