Students are not required to attend lecture sessions on campus but do have a timeline for course activities and assessments. Typically, three items are due at a time: the video lecture assignment, the homework assignment, and the timed quiz assignment. The required online video lectures are a prerequisite to the online assignments. The online assignments are a prerequisite to the online timed quizzes. Assignments should be started well before the date they are due to be successful in this course; in general, students who start the assignments the day they are due are not successful at completing the course with a passing grade. The two proctored cumulative outcomes exams are administered in a CSI testing center or in an approved external testing center. Students who reside outside a CSI testing area use an alternate approved testing location (see campus testing section of syllabus). The CSI testing center does not charge a testing fee. However, non-CSI testing centers may charge a testing fee, which is the responsibility of the student. CSI E-Mail and Contacting your Instructor Since email is the primary source of written communication with students, all registered CSI students get a college email account. Student e-mail addresses have the following format: <address>@eaglemail.csi.edu where <address> is a name selected by the student as a part of activating his/her account. Students activate their accounts and check their CSI e-mail online at http://eaglemail.csi.edu. Instructors and various offices send messages to these student accounts. Students must check their CSI e-mail accounts regularly to avoid missing important messages and deadlines. At the beginning of each semester free training sessions are offered to students who need help in using their accounts. Personal e-mail accounts cannot be used. Subject Line of all E-Mail correspondence When you e-mail your instructor, include your NAME and your COURSE (Math 108) in the SUBJECT line of the e-mail. For example….. Frequently Asked Questions
Do we use Blackboard? No, we use the course website at www.coursecompass.com
Can I work ahead of the schedule? Yes, you are encouraged to begin your assignments before the due date.
Do I attend lectures on campus? No, the lecture format for this course is online. Each assigned lecture is in the course website under the “lectures &
homework” tab. You watch the lecture at a time and place convenient to you. We will not meet as a group because many
of the distance learning students live outside the Magic Valley or out of state.
Do I have to watch the lecture?
Yes, the lecture is in place of seat time in the regular lecture class and must be viewed online before you can access the
homework problems. Lectures are listed under the “lectures & homework” tab in the course website.
What if I can’t play the videos in my course?
Call 1-800-677-6337 immediately for all technical issues.
What if I need additional help with technical issues? Search for answers or contact Pearson Customer Support at http://247pearsoned.custhelp.com. Call 1-800-677-6337
immediately for all technical issues.
Should I take notes on the lectures?
Yes, one of the most important indicators of success in this class is reading the textbook and taking notes on the lecture.
Use the “video organizer” to take notes. You will be disappointed in the outcome of the course if you take shortcuts on
reading the text and taking notes on the lectures.
When and where do I do the online homework problems? Your homework problem schedule is on the course website under the “lecture & homework” tab. The Online homework
is completed at your home computer after you have read the textbook and viewed the course lecture online. Work the
problems on paper and then submit the problems online by the due date and time. The homework problems are not timed.
No late homework is accepted for full credit; however, you may miss two homework assignments per semester without
affecting your course grade. You also have a 24 hour grace period to turn in a late homework assignment for a 50%
grade penalty. Quizzes are not accepted late.
When and where do I take the timed online quizzes? Your daily quiz schedule is listed on the course website under the “quiz” tab. The online timed quiz is completed at your
home computer after you have completed the prerequisite homework problems. Work the quiz problems on paper and then
submit the quiz online by the due date and time. No late quizzes are accepted; however, you may miss two quizzes per
semester without affecting your course grade.
Where are the testing centers that CSI students have used in the past to test? Twin Falls, Burley, Hailey, Gooding, Idaho Falls, Pocatello, Boise, and Nampa have established testing centers that CSI
students have used in the past.
Can I take the cumulative midterm exam and the cumulative final exam at home?
No, neither of these two assessments may be taken on your home computer. These are both exams administered by a test
proctor. Students must show identification for these two exams. There are no retake exams allowed; if you miss the exam
deadline, you have a 24-hour grace period to take the exam with a 10% grade penalty.
When and where do I take tests? Your testing schedule is listed on the course website under the “test date” tab. The written tests are taken in the CSI
Testing Center or at a designated testing location (student fee may apply if location charges for testing). Follow the
Proctor Guidelines at http://www.csi.edu/ip/adc/testing/proctorinfo.htm

How do I find my grades on assignments and tests? Scores will be posted online in the course website under the “gradebook” tab.
What if I need help? Your instructor is available online; reach your instructor via your CSI student e-mail account. Drop-in math help is
available in either of the math labs in the Shields or Meyerhoeffer buildings on campus. On campus tutoring is available
through the Academic Development Center--contact Kat Powell, Learning Assistance Coordinator--Room 202 of the
Meyerhoeffer Building @ 733-6685.
Can I retake quizzes or tests if I do poorly? No, retakes are not allowed.
What if I can’t complete an assignment, quiz or test by the due date?
You will need to schedule your time well in advance and complete the work BEFORE the date listed if you have a conflict;
PLAN AHEAD. Once an assignment, quiz, or test closes, it closes. However, you may miss two homework and two quizzes
per semester without your grade being affected. Those scores will be dropped at the end of the semester. In addition, you
will have a 24-hour grace period on homework (not quizzes) in which you may still submit work for 50% of the grade.
You also have a 24-hour grace period on the two comprehensive exams to take a missed test with a 10% grade penalty.
Some questions are multiple choice. Should I work the problem out or just look for the best possible answer?
On math work that has multiple choices, you should cover up the choices, work the problem out, and then go back and
look at the options you have.
