Page 3: Materials: Pasco Light Machine and a Sheet of Graph Paper, reflective mirrors.

Turn on the Light Machine. Observe the light ray.

Page 4: Materials: Pasco Light Machine and a Sheet of Graph Paper, reflective mirrors.

Line up the machine, and aim a “beam” directly as shown toward the reflective surface

Page 5: Materials: Pasco Light Machine and a Sheet of Graph Paper, reflective mirrors.

EXPERIMENT changing the

position (angle) of the reflective

surface. OBSERVE

Page 6: Materials: Pasco Light Machine and a Sheet of Graph Paper, reflective mirrors.

Position the machine so the light beam is 10 cm from the normal line and 10 cm from the reflective surface

NORMAL LINE

10 cm

Page 7: Materials: Pasco Light Machine and a Sheet of Graph Paper, reflective mirrors.

RESET the Pasco Device so that it produce 3 beams instead of one as shown.

Page 8: Materials: Pasco Light Machine and a Sheet of Graph Paper, reflective mirrors.

Position the light rays so that they strike the reflective surface at a 45 degree angle.

Page 9: Materials: Pasco Light Machine and a Sheet of Graph Paper, reflective mirrors.

Describe the reflective rays. At what angle to they reflect from the reflective surface?

Page 10: Materials: Pasco Light Machine and a Sheet of Graph Paper, reflective mirrors.

Trace you actual setup on your graph paper. Label all parts of the diagram.

Now, aim the Pasco triple beam at a concave reflective surface?

Page 13: Materials: Pasco Light Machine and a Sheet of Graph Paper, reflective mirrors.

Trace your setup on the graph paper.

Label all parts of your diagram.

Page 14: Materials: Pasco Light Machine and a Sheet of Graph Paper, reflective mirrors.

Did you label the incoming ray, reflective surface, outgoing ray?

Page 15: Materials: Pasco Light Machine and a Sheet of Graph Paper, reflective mirrors.

Using your protractor and your diagram, measure the angle between the incoming ray and the reflective ray?

Page 16: Materials: Pasco Light Machine and a Sheet of Graph Paper, reflective mirrors.

Experiment placing the focal point of the reflection to the left, right and center or the incoming rays!

ON YOUR OWN:

Repeat these procedures, except this time use the convex reflective surface.

Trace and draw your results on graph paper.

Compare and contrast the differences (if any) between the concave and convex reflective surfaces.
