What should we expect as we start the new school year?

Questions from families:

Safety/Social Distancing

● What social distancing guidelines will be in place?● How will classrooms, lockers, and the cafeteria be organized?● How will we address the report of a Covid case at school?● Are masks required?● Will instructional delivery change if there is an increase in Covid cases?

What should we expect as we start the new school year?

Questions from families:

Transportation:

● Where can I find information about my school bus and bus stop?

Schedules:

● When will my class schedule be available?● How do I confirm my classes?● Who is my school counselor?

Page 21: MASTER TITLE STYLE Meet the Principal

Personal Distancing● Personal Distancing will be in effect to the

highest degree possible. We are striving for 3 ft. of distancing but this will be unlikely in most classes because we have our full student population returning.

● Staff are encouraged to use large spaces/outside areas for classes, when available.

Cafeteria and Lunches:

● Students will eat lunch in the cafeteria, seated at tables.

● Lunches will have use of open and outdoor space when and where possible.

Page 22: MASTER TITLE STYLE Meet the Principal

Universal Masking

● All students and staff will wear face masks when indoors, regardless of vaccination status.

● During lunches, students will wear masks when not eating or drinking.

Page 23: MASTER TITLE STYLE Meet the Principal

Keeping Clean - Sanitization Measures

● Custodians will clean high touch areas throughout the day (bathrooms, railings, door handles, cafeteria tables), followed by cleaning of classrooms in the evening.

● All classrooms are equipped with hand sanitizer and disinfectant.

● Students are encouraged to wash their hands frequently throughout the school day.

Page 24: MASTER TITLE STYLE Meet the Principal

Contact Tracing and Notification● Families should conduct an individual health screening every day. If

a student is not feeling well, we ask that they remain at home.● In the event of a confirmed positive Covid case, that information is

reported to the Fairfax County Health Department. All available contact information is provided and contact tracing begins. The Health Department makes specific outreach to close contacts.

● Notification is sent to the entire school community about the case.● The Health Department dictates next steps and measures to address

the case. ○ The positive case will quarantine until cleared by a health professional. ○ Those identified as close contacts may be told to pause their in-person learning and

remain at home.

Page 25: MASTER TITLE STYLE Meet the Principal

In-Person Closure Type

Threshold to Initiate In-Person Closure

Student Support During Closure

Individual Student(s)

Student(s) is directed by their health provider or local health department to quarantine or isolate or FCPS is directed by the local health department to pause a student’s access to in-person instruction while contact tracing is implemented as a matter of public health, but their school and class remain open for all other students

Student will access work through work packets and/or through the provision of asynchronous work that could be accessed from the Learning Management System (e.g. Schoology)

Class FCPS is directed by the local health department to temporarily close the class as a matter of public health while contact tracing and case investigation is conducted, respond to an outbreak, or to address other health matters

All students and staff in the impacted class will transition to virtual learning for that class (period for secondary students) until the class can reopen

During such time, secondary students in the impacted class would access work for their other classes via work packets and/or through the provision of asynchronous work accessed from the Learning Management System (e.g. Schoology)

School FCPS is directed by the local or state health officials to temporarily close the school as a matter of public health to conduct contact tracing and case investigation, respond to an outbreak, or to address other health matters

All students and staff at the school will transition to virtual learning to ensure continuity of learning until in-person instruction can resume

Division FCPS is directed by the local health department, state officials, or Executive Order to temporarily close the division as a matter of public health

All students and staff will transition to virtual learning to ensure continuity of learning until in-person instruction can resume

Arriving and Departing From School

● We encourage all students to ride the bus to school.

● Bus stop locations and times will be posted to SIS after Aug 10.

● Students will wear masks continuously while riding the bus.

● Parents may also use the kiss and ride lane to drop off and pick up their children. Traffic is heavy!

● The traffic flows at a steady pace, so please do not drop off students along Pickett Rd.

● We are encouraging parents to place their child on the bus if they are a bus rider.

Page 27: MASTER TITLE STYLE Meet the Principal

Technology Integration● FCPSOn moves into second year at MS level.● Technology used to amplify and support

instruction. ● Students will be issued laptops and chargers

during first week of school. Students will take their laptop home every day for charging overnight.

● Highly recommend backpack with laptop pocket.

Schoology: Our New Learning Management System

● Schoology is replacing FCPS 24/7. All teachers will be using this program.

● Parents must have a SIS parentvue account to access their Schoology account. ○ (Information regarding getting a SIS Parentvue account can be found on our

home page on our website and has been sent out via e-mail. Schoology information for parents will be populated next week once classes are in.)

Page 29: MASTER TITLE STYLE Meet the Principal

Schoology: Our New Learning Management System

● Students automatically enrolled in teachers’ courses. Access begins August 19.● Parents have a separate logon. You will be able to see updates, important dates,

access is on our Frost Page. Some information (assignments/Google related images) will not be able to be seen through parent account. Log in as student to see everything. SIS is the gradebook of record until Schoology and SIS “talk”.

● See our website for additional information regarding Schoology accounts.

Important Items for the First Days of School

● Students and parents will be able to see their schedules in SIS beginning on the morning of Thursday, August 19.

● The first day of school is Monday, August 23● A school supply list is posted on the Frost MS website and has been shared

through e-mail. ● Students are able to carry items with them in a backpack throughout the

school day. Keeping in mind there are fewer textbooks assigned, students have a laptop, and because of supply and demand due to renovation, hallway lockers will not be assigned this school year.

● At this time, we are finalizing our plans for PE classes and the use of the locker room. Students will be encouraged to change into athletic wear for their classes.

○ PE teachers will communicate the plan during the first days of school.● Breakfast and lunch are being provided free of charge to all students this

year.● Cell phones are “away for the day”. However students will be able to use

them during breakfast, lunch and the brain break with teacher supervision.
