Master Plan Update Public Involvement/Vision & Goals May 2009 INTRODUCTION Parks and open space reconnect people to nature by becoming places for spontaneous play, social gather- ings, and healthy acvies. With the superb diversity of landscape from ridgeline to wetland and its proximity to Bear Valley Elementary School and Storck Park, Secon 36 could provide areas for recreaon and learning about nature. It provides access to a variety of habitats, op- portunies to see wildlife, and spectacular views of the Anchorage area. Through this master planning process, Secon 36 has the potenal to become a significant as- set to the region and the community. CITIZENS ADVISORY COMMITTEE (CAC) The CAC represents a wide cross-secon of interests and segments of the community and is expected to repre- sent both their personal views and those of the greater community. Though the CAC is not a decision-making body, their perspecves will inform the decision. Project decisions will ulmately be made by Parks and Recre- aon through this planning process. CAC meengs were held the second Tuesday of each month, from February through May. The CAC parci- pated in a site walk in March. The CAC has developed a draſt vision statement and draſt goals. Program develop- ment has begun and conceptual maps are being devel- oped. A public meeng will be scheduled in the fall, to collect public comments on the vision, goals, program- ming, and site plans developed to date.
