The Orientation Days take place at the beginning of each semester, a week before the start of the academic semester in September and February. Participation is free, except for certain weekend activities and food. We strongly advise you to participate in order to get a good start of your academic adventure in Leuven.

This introductory course aims to give an introduction to the social scientific debate on digitalization, its relevance for different professional fields with the overarching goal to build a sense of community among the students.

Research Design and Digital Methods (5 ECTS)
In this course, you will learn how to do social scientific research by using digital sources and methods. The course is both theoretical and practical: you will develop research problems and collect, analyze and interpret (big) data on social media platforms.

Master Thesis (18 ECTS)
This is the keystone of your research in the field of digital media and communications. You will combine theory and method, by doing research under the supervision of a scholar from the Institute for Media Studies or the Leuven School for Mass Communication Research.

Internship (10 ECTS)
INTRODUCTION TO DIGITALIZATION (3 ECTS)
You will learn to translate academic knowledge to practice. Based on your interest, you will work for five weeks in an organization specialized in digital media and communication to gain experience with professional life and to further develop your skills as a communication expert.
