I had a choice between three cities in which to study: London, Berlin and Porto. My final choice was Porto because of the hospitable spirit of the city and the quality of the university. FEP is one of the best universities in Portugal and my choice has, so far, not disappointed me. The courses provide the skills demanded by the job market and the professors are all experts in their fields. While the Master in Management does not provide a single area specialization, it does teach a multitude of things that will all be useful in our future careers. Overall, my expectations have been far exceeded.

Objectives>> The Master Degree in Management at FEP aims to provide students with solid background knowledge in key management functions (financial, strategic, sales, operations and people), plus a more developed knowledge of one or several specialized areas. Theoretical depth is pursued, but the emphasis is on the use of concepts in real life situations. The programme seeks to adapt to each participant’s life project, by allowing specialization and by providing options that fit different career profiles – e.g. business manager, entrepreneur or academic. Finally, the development of participants’ social skills at several levels is an important aim of the course. All of these objectives are subsumed within the course’s core objectives: i.e. employability and internationalization, or, in other words, the preparation of students for a successful career in business management in a global setting.

Target group>> Candidates should possess a 3-year bachelor’s degree in management, economics, or a similar subject and be proficient in English, the language in which the master course is taught. The programme is essentially targeted at recently graduated students with little or no professional experience.FEP, University of Porto, has made a “double degree agreement” with Euromed Management – Marseille, France. Selected participants will attend one term of studies in France and will be required to complete a series of requirements involving 150 ECTS for the award of the double degree.

Euromed and exchangeinformation>> 7 students are going to be involved in the double degree agreement in the programme’s first year.>> 1 student is engaged in an Erasmus exchange programme. >> We had 7 foreign regular students from several countries and 2 exchange students in classes in the 1st term. Please collect specific information with the International Office.

JOÃO RIBEIROPROGRAMME DIRECTORThe Master Degree in Management at FEP, University of Porto, is a 24-month full-time programme, the objectives of which are clear from its solid but diversified curriculum, its emphasis on practical and applied knowledge, and its major concern with regard to participants’ personal and social development. Students can ready themselves for a career at a global level, by pursuing an internship, by undertaking part of their studies abroad, or by networking with colleagues from all over the world and attending seminars with top international speakers organized by FEP’s research centres. The establishment of a “double degree agreement” with Euromed Management – a top management school placed #30 in the Financial Times Master in Management 2011 ranking – and a series of student exchange protocols established between the University of Porto and other well-known universities abroad, create important opportunities that students are encouraged to take advantage of. The contribution of international students is crucial, something that was evident in the programme’s first edition. These students are welcomed by a tutor, who is also a student, to permit them a smooth acclimatization. The International Student Office also provides assistance to international students during their stay. Finally, the University of Porto, the largest and top ranked university in Portugal, and Porto, a vibrant city full of history, which has a striving social and cultural life, provide a wonderful environment for the pursuit of your studies. We look forward to welcoming you soon.

Professional outputs>> The Career Services offers training and guidance in employability skills and empowers students to succeed throughout their careers. Our professional development workshops, personal career guidance, mentoring programme, FEP Talent Pool and online resources help students to deal with recruiters and to build a career strategy. The Career Services also helps students to obtain placements during their masters course, via the established relationships it has with recruiters.

For me, the key aspects of the Master in Management are the general tools in the most important areas of management provided in the first semester and the opportunity given in the second semester to pursue studies based on our own interests. The FEP Masters in Management is one of the very few masters in Portugal in which the programme is taught in English. This gave me opportunity to live and study in this beautiful country.

When I had completed my first degree I had two options: i.e. to enter the employment market or to continue my studies. After considering my situation, I decided to take a master’s degree before start out on a career. The employment market currently demands skills that cannot be obtained from a first degree course.I chose the Master in Management of the School of Economics and Management, University of Porto, because I wanted to continue my studies in English and to take advantage of the mobility programme (Double Degree). Internationalisation is an increasingly important aspect of the business world so that the acquisition of knowledge in this area is fundamental. In my choice, I also took into consideration the chance to select an institution that offers both educational quality and educational rigour.
