Since forming in 1999, they have traveled the world teaching, competing and performing for over 50 million people across 6 continents. Despite Massive Monkees’ accomplishments overseas, nothing compares to the cultural foundation they have built in Seattle, which promotes break- dancing and urban art as a healthy activity and method of expression for youth. In 2004, Mayor of Seattle Greg Nickels, proclaimed April 26 as Massive Monkees Day. This was awarded to Massive Monkees in recognition of the dance group’s accomplishments and positive influence on the youth in their communities. Entertainment Programs & Urban Arts Workshops: Over the past decade, Massive Monkees have been featured guests at various events all over the globe. Festivals, concerts, universities, theaters and television programs across 6 continents have welcomed this world champion break-dance group to share their amazing talent and inspiring ideas. Massive Monkees now offer programs specific to youth outreach through The Massive Movement. Programs were developed to be fun and safe for all age groups and custom tailored to fit the specific needs of any event.

Intro to Breakdance CultureRun Time: 30 minutesCast: 2-3 DancersGrade Level: K-CollegeOverview: This dance performance and interactive workshop will introduce audience members to the history of Hip Hop and Breakdance culture as well as demonstrate the fundamental moves that make up the foundation of this dance. Following the short demonstration, volunteers will then be selected from the audience to learn some basic breakdance choreography. The presentation comes to a finale when the volunteers take the stage and perform for their peers.

Arena PerformanceRun Time: 5-7 minutesCast: 6 DancersGrade Level: K - CollegeIncludes: 5 – 7 min Dance Performance Overview: Great for pep assemblies and sports events, the Arena program features world famous Massive Monkees crew who first brought breakdance choreography to the NBA in 2004. The following year they were invited to the NBA All Star Game and performed for the sold out audience of 20,000 fans and celebrities at Denver Colorado’s Pepsi Center. Now the Monkees bring these same performances with an educational twist to your school or public event.

Main Stage Theater ShowRun Time: 40minsCast: 8 Dancers + 1 DJGrade Level: K – CollegeIncludes: 40min Theater Style Production Including Dance Workshop IntermissionOverview: 2 years of development went into the creation of “Souled Out” and it is the first breakdance theater production of its kind. Massive Monkees have created this unique production that promises to excite and amaze its viewers with some of the world’s best Breakdance choreography. Tracked to a mixture of music that ranges from the 70’s Funk of James Brown to the Alternative Rock of Nirvana to original Massive Movement compositions, each of “Souled Out’s” unique scenes will take you to a different place and time. “Souled Out” debuted Spring of 2008 in Nantes, France to a sold out crowd of 1000 plus spectators.

Kids Breakdance Run Time: 45mins – 1.5hrsInstructors: 1-2 Grade: K - 8Includes: Dance Workshop Overview: Trained professionals visit your gym class and teach basic break-dance moves. Through dance exercises and games, participants will explore movement, develop dance skills and build strength and flexibility. This workshop is fun and safe for all ages and will have your students moving and sweating to the music!

Young Adults BreakdanceRun Time: 45mins – 1.5hrsInstructors: 1-2 Grade: 9 - CollegeIncludes: Dance Workshop Overview: Young Adults Breakdance will begin with a brief discussion on the history of Hip Hop culture and its positive impact on community. Beginning with movement, the dancing starts with a series of warm up exercises and stretches that will prepare participants to learn some fundamental moves of break-dance. After learning some basics, students will explore advanced moves that are taught in a non-threatening exercise that encourages students to explore new challenges, builds confidence and opens students to their own power and potential. As the class heats up, participants will learn choreography and the whole group will unify through synchronized dance. To close out the workshop, participants will break into small groups and apply teamwork to create a unique performance that is performed for peers at the end of class.

After School Extracurricular Breakdance Program (4-8 weeks)Run Time: 4 – 8 WeeksGrade: 6 - 12 Includes: Innovative Breakdance ProgramOverview: The Massive Movement after school program is an innovative Breakdance program that will cultivate self-confidence, and provide tools of empowerment to its participants. Breakdance integrates dedication, creativity, physical fitness and fun into an artistic discipline. This program will work to instill these traits into its students through structured dance lessons. In addition, The Massive Movement will work on social and communication development. Students will work in small groups creating choreography and performance concepts. Through this exercise they will learn skills in leadership and team building. Participants will teach each other, support one another and accomplish goals collectively in this extended program. Participants of this program will evolve as dancers and through this artistic development will also develop these traits to carry over into their everyday lives.

DJ WorkshopRuntime: 1-2hrs Grade: 6 – CollegeIncludes: DJ WorkshopOverview: Do your students love music? They can learn the art of DJing and experience for themselves the positive creative expression that this musical art form can provide. Also discover the history of DJing and find out what it takes to be a DJ during this exciting workshop where participants will learn how music can be a means for making people feel good and for uniting people of all ages, cultures, backgrounds and beliefs.
